When I first looked at the menu of this restaurant, I was not overly excited to go there. There was nothing wrong with the menu itself, it had all the classic Thai dishes on it (tom yam soup, chicken satay, red curry, green curry, massaman curry, etc.) but I have had a lot of Thai food over the years and was looking for something outside of the usual offerings. What convinced me to go there though was the fact that I met some Thai people who had actually ordered takeout (repeatedly) from this restaurant and proclaimed it to be quite authentic.
On a chilly Saturday evening in November, my good friend and I entered this cozy restaurant and walked up to the owner at the counter. We were warmly greeted and basically could choose any table still available (it was about 2/3 full). The restaurant has 26 seats (I counted them) with 3 out of the tables set up for 4 people. Something to keep in mind if you are planning to come with a large party - best to make reservations I think. It seemed to be a family run restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient.
We ordered the Buppha mix as appetizer, Tom Kha Kai soep, Massaman curry, Green curry and fried rice. The food seemed to be prepared fresh and after an acceptable wait time came out steaming. I started eating and wow, the flavors were right on point! The dishes had just the right combination of sweet, salty, sour, herby and spicy. The vegetables were cooked just right and still had a little bit of crunch. These were arguably some of the best versions of green curry and massaman curry I have ever had. The appetizers and soup were great too. The dishes did indeed taste real authentic. Beverage wise, they serve Thai beer (Singha and Chang - I have a slight preference for the latter) and also Thai ice tea. The Thai ice tea is actually not listed on the menu but worth asking for because mine was excellent! The prices are neither real cheap nor real expensive but the portion sizes were pretty large. We had to order some extra white rice to polish off the remainder of the curries. The fact that they don't have much to offer in the way of dessert was probably a good thing because I was so full at the end that it was starting to jeopardize my future gastrointestinal health.
All in all, an excellent meal and we will definitely be back for more when we visit Amsterdam again. read more
