KT Glassworks is a great little studio! I was getting back into glass after an 18 year hiatus and this was the perfect place to do so. Although the ship is compact, it was clean, had nice, well maintained, equipment, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I can't put into words how cool this experience was. We had a 2 person 4-hour lesson with Kate Buttoni and truly, truly it was one of our favorite experiences. Kate is so cool, laid back, and so knowledgeable about glasswork. She explains the science behind glass' properties and how we are able to manipulate hot glass. Kate not only explained what we would be making for each item, but she drew chalk sketches on the ground so that we could visually see what the step by step process would look like. After each chalk talk-thru, Kate would then make the piece herself so we could have a visual demonstration on how to actually make the piece. We got to make 4 items for ourselves: little clear glass marbles (not pictured), then we each made a paperweight, then we each made a bird, and then we each made a blown glass bowl. The glass bowl was especially cool because we got to work together to blow the glass and shape the bowl. In addition to taking home our own pieces that we each made, we also got to take home Kate's demonstration pieces which are high-quality, lovely glasswork. We tell everyone how much fun this was. It was such a unique experience and I'm so thankful we had Kate to help us create these really beautiful pieces and memories! I had always wanted to try working with glass, but was too intimated and didn't think it was something I could ever feasibly try. My husband booked us a private class at KT Glassworks as a surprise date. Wow, I was very surprised but super super nervous. My hand eye coordination is not my strong suit, I was afraid of burning myself, breaking things, getting frustrated at not doing a good job etc etc. We worked with Jess and she was such an exceptional teacher! She is incredibly patient, walks you through each step before you do it, and will hop in to help at anytime if your getting overwhelmed by a step. I asked a lot of questions and needed things repeated a lot of times so I could feel ready to dive in, and Jess was consistently patient and helpful throughout the whole four hour class. We made four pieces during the class, and by the end I felt so much more comfortable. It's pretty cool to go from knowing absolutely nothing to feeling a sense of confidence over one class. My husband and I had SO MUCH FUN! Glass blowing is so fun, exciting, and rewarding. It's a great thing to try as an anxious perfectionist, because the glass will do what the glass does :) I highly recommend this class and working with Jess. My friend Yi wanted to try out glassworking and in our process of looking for good classes we found KT Glassworks and booked a class with Matt as our teacher. He was an amazing and patient teacher who was always checking in with us about questions and our comfort level as first time beginners, also very conscious of our safety. We started out making glass marbles with clear glass to practice cutting off, then moved to paperweights with colors, and then to bowls, and then to more complicated structures (Matt made us a very beautiful honey peach and we can also keep the instructor demo pieces made during class as well) and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience - will probably book another lesson if I am back in the area again :D Highly recommend KT Glassworks classes for a fun experience with friends! read more

Tried to buy someone a lesson as a birthday gift here. Business would not take money, did not explain why, and did not offer solution. I don't know who "Aya" is, but this was a really poor experience with customer service. If a customer wants to give you money, usually the best option is to take it. If for some reason that isn't possible, you might consider explaining WHY that is the case and what alternatives the customer might have in order to facilitate the purchase. Wish I could have talked to Jess because everyone seems to have amazing experiences with her. Unfortunately, I can only review my experience with Aya and it was unpleasant. read more

Booked a two-student private lesson and had an amazing first-time glassblowing experience with Jess! I was initially intrigued yet intimidated by the medium, but by the end, I felt fairly comfortable with much of the basics. First of all, what a fun time! There's something so strange and unique about the way molten glass transforms and all the various techniques you can use to shape it. I was awestruck just seeing it all happen up close. Jess was a great instructor. She guided us through the process for each piece, letting us take over when we wanted, or taking over herself if we needed a break or didn't feel comfortable doing any part of it. She gave clear instruction when needed, but also stepped back and let us feel out the process in a no-rush, low pressure environment. There was a good balance of structure and flexibility to the lesson, learning but playing around. All in all, a great first-time expererience. Would highly recommend a lesson if you're even remotely curious, and would definitely take another lesson with Jess! read more

My daughter and I booked a private lesson with Kate Buttino - and it exceeded my wildest expectations. Kate was so structured in her process - dry runs with the rods to the bench to reinforce safety explanations with no-risk practice. Drawing out the process we were going to undertake with chalk on the concrete. Walking through each exercise herself, explaining the process while she also did the steps. Then walking us each through the four projects, step my step. I gained a new appreciation for the level of dexterity required to pull off even the most basic of things with this art form. Kate described it has rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time, and the description was spot on. Throughout the lesson Kate kept us going with encouraging words and high fives when we completed an object, high energy the whole time, all while keeping us safe and educating us on the process. At the beginning, I wondered if we were going to be able to complete everything in the four hour timeframe, but we finished with 5 minutes to spare and never felt rushed. As a bonus, one of the renters was there doing production the whole time, so we were able to observe a couple of pros doing their work at the same time - awesome! I'll be stopping by on Thursday to pick up our objects from the annealing oven, but the prize was the experience itself, made even better by an incredible instructor. Highly recommended! read more

I've taken 3 private lessons at Kt glassworks so far and it's worth every penny. This time around I had Matt as an instructor and we were able to jump right in from where we left off last time. As Christmas was coming up I told him I was interested in making a couple gifts and left with some really awesome ornaments and shot glasses. Everything came out better than i expected.
