I don't know much about cars in general and tend to accept what a mechanic tels me. That said, I had some necessary work done by a mechanic at Dolphin automotive the week after hurricane Helene came through. All the other local auto mechanic shops were destroyed or out of service due to lack of electric and water service. I was charged $95 for diagnosis (? I already knew what was wrong with the car) plus $95 for a switch (??) and $95 for labor. My car ran just fine when I drove it into Dolphin's station that day. After the work was done, which by the way, did not involve the engine, the car started missing badly as soon as I drove out. Back at the mechanic, told me a part had been broken and I needed to replace the entire assembly. Denied having broken the part, which I find hard to believe. Why would my car run fine before they worked on it, to not run afterwards? As I stated before, Dolphin mechanics have worked on my car several times and have done an ok job, nothing outstanding. I now suspect they pad their invoices but can't prove anything, just like I can't prove the worker broke my part. However, after this last incident I will no longer patronize the shop and will not recommend them to anyone I know.

Last spring, while doing the annual inspection, Eric recommended a tune-up to deal with a problem I mentioned. After all, it had 100,000 miles on the odometer. Solved the problem. Today I was a few minutes early for my 1:30 appointment and the car was in the shop before 1:30. The problem was a bad ignition coil and the problem was history. Eric cleared my 23 year old car for a planned trip to Florida. It is nice to be able to trust your local mechanic.

A very polite man named Chris was there when I arrived and took some info, and then presented me with pricing. $240 to check my check engine light, and then, because I told him I'd just purchased the car, $150 do "do a really in depth check". I declined the in depth, but it left me a bad taste in my mouth. I called another mechanic on the way out who quoted me $189 to check the light. I called Chris back to ask if they'd match that and he immediately replied "no ma'am". No problem. I'll come and grab the car and go elsewhere - I was already feeling like I was going to be overcharged. ETA. I received a call a couple of hours later, stating they would match the cost that the other shop quoted. The owner, Todd, is apparently in today, and Chris had spoken to him about this and he wanted to honor the other quote. Honestly, when I drove up to this shop I was really excited. I grew up country, in the country. This place is country - there are roosters crowing, and a good ol' boy mechanic listening to George Straight. I'm down with that.
