I wish more people knew about my alma mater. Marshall Goldsmith School of Management at Alliant…read moreInternational University. For some odd reason, it's a well kept secret. Not to business professionals, psychologists, and consultants but to many of my friends and family. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Organizational Behavior last year. I originally was in the PhD program for Consulting Psychology (the only one in the nation, by the way). Then, due to a lil' hiccup ... or should I say big bump ... or just call it like it is ---- This HAPPY lady got pregnant --- I ended up having to change my short-term educational goals from a PhD to a MA. I loved ALL my classes in Organizational Psychology, Consulting, Leadership, Organizational Change, Group Dynamics, Diversity, Human Resources, Performance Management, Assessment, Conflict Resolution, Organizational Culture, Training & Development, with one exception of Statistics (I sucked!). The coursework is challenging but gives the best preparation for the workforce! This is not considered a research-based education but more a practical and applied education that gives broad experience and knowledge. Internships are required in order to graduate which offers even one more leg-up to getting a job after graduation! The professors are well respected and connected! Marshall Goldsmith, it's namesake, is one of the world's most influential thinkers on business and management in the world! There are other significant thought leaders associated with my alma mater, too. Just a few examples are Ken Blanchard, Frances Hesselbein, Paul Hersey, Ken Shelton, Jim Kouzes, and Dave Ulrich. I am very interested in going back for their new degree. GREEN MBA (i.e., Sustainability, Three Bottom Lines, Corporate Social Responsibility). And the PhD in Leadership looks really kewl, too! What can I say? I'm a lifelong learner ... I just love school (even if that makes me a dork/geek!). The last thing I want you know is Alliant is a private, non-profit, accredited institution (much like Claremont Graduate University, Pepperdine, John F. Kennedy School, and Golden Gate University). It's really an honor to have graduated from MGSM at Alliant! The more of you YELPERS and THE WORLD that know about MGSM, the easier it will be for me and my fellow students to get hired or be high in-demand! I am not too excited when someone thinks my education was at a for-profit university, a university that is only offered on-line or one that has a campus in every city in America.

Early last year, I had trouble getting scheduled for additional classes. After weeks of unanswered calls and emails, my current advisor eventually responded and did help me get enrolled. At the time, I appreciated the assistance. Now, however, the experience has completely changed. Since November, my advisor has stopped responding entirely. No callbacks, no email replies, nothing. My last class ended in December, and as we approach February, I am still not enrolled in new courses, despite repeatedly reaching out. This is especially stressful because I was planning to graduate this year, and the lack of support may delay that goal. Another advisor managed to enroll me in one class starting in March, but that still leaves an unnecessary gap in my academic schedule. What makes this more frustrating is that my advisor previously told me to reach out within a "reasonable amount of time" to avoid scheduling gaps, yet I did, and I still ended up with a gap. So I have to ask: what exactly is considered a "reasonable amount of time" if months of notice still isn't enough? Overall, this has been an exhausting, disappointing experience that has disrupted my education.

I had a horrible experience trying to take Microbiology. The lab aspect was a complete nightmare…read morebecause the lab company UCSD works with is incredibly disorganized. I'm currently taking a Chemistry course. This week, I spent one hour learning chemistry on Canvas, and five hours trying to get my textbook and homework platform to link with Canvas. Canvas provides no instructions whatsoever. The professor just tells you to contact the textbook company. The textbook website says to click on a link on Canvas. Unfortunately that link in Canvas takes you to a blank page. Other students are having problems too. This is my second horrible experience with UCSD Extension. If you want to learn science, find another place to take your classes. If you want to spend hours trying to resolve technical problems, this is a great option. I wish UCSD Ext would not outsource.

I took Microbiology with Lab 169818 at UC San Diego and it was the most disorganized experience…read more Lessons are everywhere. Not organized at all. Mixed up and repeated information the learning sections. The videos provided for learning are not the teacher speaking and are random people/"professors" but some of them can't even pronounce the words and sound like they have NO CLUE what they are talking about. It's quite confusing what you really need to know for the class because the modules say one thing but the PowerPoints, reading, and videos talk about that plus way more. It's very much so an overload. It's like no one took the time to perfect or even proofread this class setup and modules. Science lab kit is way overpriced for what you get. Like really for $450 you couldn't add 2 paper clips, alcohol, extra masks, more candles, extra Petri dishes with agar, and extra microbes (for any errors). We are not experts here and being left alone to do the labs especially at the beginning is trial and error. For me I accidentally punctured the agar with the loop and ruined my whole sample and it was just shit out of luck unless I wanted to buy more myself (only about $10 but I just paid $450 for this kit so why should I have to do that?). Not everything in the kit was used. It was a huge waste of money. The class is kind of "at your own pace" so you could totally finish early and wing it! I guess if you have the money and don't really want to learn but just need the class- go for it. I would never recommend this class or school to anyone. It was a terrible experience and this is coming from someone who already has a degree and has taken MANY online classes.

A man who identified himself as Chris answered the phone and you would have thought I asked him for his first born! People now don't want to do anything in their jobs. Instead of being helpful he started off by complaining how difficult it would be to locate her! How difficult is it to get out of your chair, walk in a class and call out a name?! Stop being lazy people, earn your pay. I entrust you with the only mother I have, she is 90 and has mobility issues, she pays for classes you don't give them out for free. How hard is it to say " don't worry, I'll get her the message" instead of acting like it's such a hard thing.
