When I contacted Timex about fixing my father's Marlin (circa the '70s-'80s, I was told) they recommended a former employee in Florida. He initially did a great job of restoring the watch's second hand and repairing the water damage. The watch worked fine for months, but late last year, while still working, stopped keeping proper time. When I contacted the same repairman, he did not respond to several messages. (He was in his 80s, so he may have thrown in the towel.) I thought I was sunk -- until I learned about Marcel at Grand Jewelry. When I brought the watch to him, he said he would look at it but made no promises that he could fix it. "Call me in two weeks," he said. I did, and the Marlin now keeps remarkably excellent time for a stem-winder. It's rarely more than a minute off the mark. And he charged me less than $100 for his work. I am a very happy customer can't recommend Marcel more highly.

Within a year, the structural integrity of the work failed: the seam where the ring was cut is now visibly open and physically sharp to the touch. This is a clear case of improper fusing or the use of inferior solder--platinum should be seamlessly welded, not left with a failing joint. When I reached out to resolve this, they admitted the repair would cost over $500 and offered a measly 15% discount. It is predatory to charge $60 to remove a piece of my platinum, then demand over $500 to fix a seam that shouldn't have failed in the first place. I expected this company to stand behind their benchwork, but instead, they are trying to profit off their own technical error. I no longer trust them with my jewelry and suggest others look elsewhere for quality platinum work.
