curry katsu udon and niku udon
    Christina C.

We originally planned to eat at a different spot around the corner but the wait was too long. We ended up coming here, as this had a much shorter wait, but looked equally as delicious. I ended up ordering the curry katsu udon (with an added soft boiled egg) and my boyfriend got the niku udon. Both were great though a bit pricey.. the broths were flavorful and the udon had a good consistency. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Worth the wait! We decided to give this place a try after seeing the small line outside. The restaurant is a nice little shop with stool seating. We sat at the open window and were able to people watch. If you are bothered by smoke, don't sit at the open window. The udon and cold udon were both delicious. And came out fresh (you can watch them make noodles and all the dishes fresh). Definitely would come back to try other dishes.

Great udon place! Small place and typically can have a long line. I ordered the cold udon with the dipping sauce. It came with tempura that was cooked perfectly! It was some of the best tempura ever! The noodle as super al dente. I personally would have preferred if it was a little more cooked but overall it was good. Hubby ordered the pork katsu with egg over rice. He enjoyed it.

I loved udon at this restaurant! It was so good and that's what everyone was ordering.Their udon had a lot of flavor and you could tell they were handmade noodles! This place is pretty small but that is what ramen places are like in Japan so must be a thing for Japanese restaurants. It was right down the street on the corner from the place I was staying and I could smell the great food and see how much people were enjoying it. I never thought I would be enjoying Japanese food so much in Paris but now that I have, I hope to return for more. If you come to this part of Paris, you must eat here or you're missing out!

Didn't know there was a Little Japan in Paris and once I stepped foot into this restaurants, I was immediately flashed back to when I was in Japan. The staff was all Japanese and conversing in their language and the smell of aromas of tempura and rich broths. Nothing beats the cold rainy weather than a nice hearty bowl of Udon noodle soup. Noodles were cooked well. I got the duck and it was cooked perfectly. It was very juicy and tender and seasoned well. The broth was amazing, I don't usually drink the soup but if it's so good then I will go for it. I also got the Chicken karage (Japanese fried chicken) which was very good. Definitely recommend this place for their Udon noodle soup. Be prepared to wait as this place is pretty popular.

This is our second time here as we came last summer and it left a lasting impression on us! It's authentic and delicious. We will always come here when we're in Paris because it's that good!

Wonderful udon in Paris! We were craving some comfort food and needed a break from French food. Good price and humongous portions! The waitress spoke enough English so it wasn't too hard getting a table and ordering. Community style seating. Can't wait to come back here and the other surrounding Japanese restaurants within this area. Santé! *get the fried chicken and the curry udon

I'd give this around 3.5 stars, maybe 4 stars if you just get the beef curry soup. The beef curry udon soup was really good, and perfect for a cold night in Paris. I didn't really care for the tempura udon. Even though the noodles were fresh and the tastes were authentic, I thought the prices for the soups were a bit on the high side (some were 20€, some were 17€). There will usually be a line out the door since there are not that many seats here; there is a row of seats along the window and then a few communal tables - it's quite cozy. The saving grace of having to wait outside in the cold for 30-45 min is that they have heaters. Come with just 2-4 people in your party otherwise it will be hard to get a space for your party. I liked the curry udon soup the best - the broth was flavorful, but not overly spicy, and the broth was thick as it should have been. I've only had curry udon soup one other time while in Japan, and this one here was spot-on. The noodles were also nice, chewy and springy. I was disappointed with the tempura udon - the tempura was delicious and fresh and came on the side, and there were ~5 pieces (one broccoli, one prawn, a slice of kabocha squash, a slice of zucchini and a slice of red pepper). I liked the dipping sauce too and the little quail egg that you're supposed to mix into this. But the broth for the udon noodles was very bland- kind of just tasted like hot water, and apparently I was eating this wrong for 5-10 min until someone came over and told me you were supposed to take the noodles and dip it into the dipping sauce before eating. It just seemed like a lot of work and it was hard to get the right proportion of sauce to noodles on the soup. All in all, it was a decent place to get udon, and the curry beef udon soup was fantastic. The tempura udon fell short for me, and I thought the prices were high. If you're in the mood for udon, this is a decent bet, but be prepared to wait for a table and pay higher prices than ordinary for udon.

Make sure you show up hungry because this place does not provide any containers for take away (as my wife discovered at the end of our meal). Fortunately, I'm always hungry! The place is very narrow with not a lot of seating so there is a good possibility that you might have to wait during peak hours. The veggie tempura with the dipping sauce was delicious but on the small side for 10 euro. I had the natto-udon soup which was a first for me (17 euro). Natto is fermented soybeans which tasted better than it sounds. My wife had the curry beef udon which was thick, spicy, and very rich (20 euro?). No wonder she couldn't finish it. The beef was thinly cut and very tender. The udon has a great texture and the broth is seasoned perfectly. Make sure you have a Kirin (on tap for just 5 Euro!) to wash everything down.

We had the curry udon and the tempura udon. I was a bit disappointed by our dinner though, after seeing the good reviews and eating at the nearby Sanukiya. Curry udon was piping hot, but lacked the great Japanese curry udon flavor that I'm accustomed to. More unfortunately, the noodles were a tad over cooked. Tempura udon was better than the curry udon, but the soup was nothing remarkable. Service was slow. The servers did not speak any English, but this was okay as most of the menu items were Japanese phonetics. Tempura udon was 20€. Curry udon was 17€. Tamago was 4€. In short, go to Sanukiya instead.

As usual, great. Been coming here every time I visit Paris and it never disappoints :) this time I got the curry udon and also ordered tentoji! Was sooo good together. My boyfriend got the tendon and I tried a bit and it was soo good too! Definitely have to try that next time. Waited a bit longer than usual in line this time around but tbh I don't mind! This place serves the best udon

Long lines but it's worth the wait. Love the shrimp tempura with huge fresh shrimps and fried to order. I highly recommend the curry udon, which has good spice and is perfect for a cold day. The pricing is also reasonable especially for Paris.

    Kunitora-udon
    Carol L.

Salty salty salty. So salty. Tiny glasses of water. Though the general flavors of the udon are good, the salt is overwhelming. We got the Kunitora-udon (I really liked the flavor of this one - just minus half the salt they added) and the curry udon (Marukame Udon in Honolulu still reigns supreme). I'm kind of upset that we wasted time and a meal in Paris eating here. The line wasn't super long but it could've been better spent walking the streets of Paris. Service is pleasant but everyone in Paris is pleasant. If they fix their heavy salt hand, this place could be worth visiting. A warm bowl of udon soup is definitely welcome on a chilly Paris night but chugging liters of water after is not.

Pretty nondescript. Couldn't believe the line outside when we left after having lunch here!

It only opened in 1958, which sent me into an existential spiral. A city that is such a cultural melting pot like Paris, and Europe as a whole, got their first Japanese restaurant in 1958? The world has not been connected for very long. I don't know why, but this really put time into perspective for me. When we stepped off the Parisian streets and into Takara, it literally felt like we just entered a worm hole to Tokyo. They somehow bottled the energy in Japan and brought it to Paris. You could take a breath in here. There was just such a calming, respectful energy in here that I have only felt in Japan. When making a reservation, you are required to order either Shabu Shabu or Sukiyaki which honestly was kind of annoying. We just wanted to rip a bunch of sushi. 52 euro a head was the cheapest option, and we went with that because I'm a brokie. We sat down in the most authentic Japanese ambiance that I have ever set foot in outside of Japan. I was so damn inspired. One of the walls was lined with 70+ different types of beautifully crafted Japanese wallpaper, and I wanted to steal it and bring it back home to line the walls of my tiny NYC apartment. Along with our forced shabu shabu, we went with a mixed nigiri platter, 3 different cut rolls, and some fried chicken. My Chase Sapphire Preferred card was in hell. The nigiri and cut rolls went absolutely insane. The thing about writing food reviews is there are only so many positive adjectives in my repertoire. It was better than any nigiri I've had outside of Japan. Maybe the quality of fish has been the same in LA or NYC, but the vibe in here just took it up a notch... See, my words are futile to describe the feeling this fish gave me. I would honestly love to hate on the shabu shabu that we were held at gunpoint to try, but it was also PHENOMENAL. Maybe it's just a case of Stockholm syndrome, but it was magical. Thin cuts of beef with the most perfect marbling, paired with fresh vegetables to cook in a hot pot right in front of you? How could you not love it? The waitress came over and got us started, showing us how to operate the shabu shabu machine. All in all, this was my 2nd favorite meal we had in Paris only behind the Senegalese restaurant Waly Fay. However, Takara did HURT the pockets. I don't even know how much it ran, I just winced as I tapped my Chase card. I'm refusing to look at the statement as it's all just monopoly money on vacation, right? When I passed by here on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm and the place looked relatively empty, I thought to myself - this is it! I love japanese cafe's like this in NYC (I've never been to japan), where they have different sections for hot food and cold food and ready made food. The hot food section provides you with a selection of ready made bentos as well as a selection of bentos you can choose from and choose your own three small sides. Each bento is approximately 10EUR plus or minus and the portions arent too big. I asked the cute guy serving what he liked and he told me the kaarage, or fried chicken, or poulet frite. So that's what I got, and my friend got the chicken teriyaki, or chicken grille. We were both extremely happy with the food. The best part is that the rice is real japanese rice. sooo good. There's a little cafeteria on the inside with jugs of water, another upstairs area for seating, and another upstairs area for general japanese snacks and alcohol for purchase. The sushi section is pretty cool too, providing you with sushi stuffed with the chicken or breaded pork (katsu). I definitely wanna try that next time. Um they are opened 7 days a week, even on xmas and new years! This is a real japanese joint, rant by japanese people, and good looking japanese guys manning the cooking section. Love it!
