I really liked how this memorial park did not do too much with the bridge and kept true to what Kurt Cobain likely sat by and saw when he would come here to find peace in solace, or inspiration in the scene. Couple of sculptures with descriptions that pay tribute to Kurt Cobain of what this place meant to him and I thought that air guitar stand was so funny. Mini hike that you can do through the woods, but I get scared bc I was by myself. So, I did not go in myself... but, this is a 3 minute walk away from the childhood home of Kurt Cobain, which you cannot enter because it is private property, but there is a description to read by the front of the fence gate. How cool it is to see the neighborhood that was origin of Kurt Cobain! read more

Not much here and nothing special to see except some signs and sculptures as tributes to Kurt Cobain. Everything was covered in graffiti to intensify the grunginess. It's creepy under the bridge, so it's probably better for people who appreciate this type of vibe and views of the water. There's random goose poop throughout the park and under the bridge. I had to find out the hard way after my dog rubbed on some in the grass. Luckily, they have a big open garbage can here. The only parking is on the street in front of houses. read more

I was passing through Aberdeen and decided to make a mini Kurt Cobain pilgrimage while I was here. I was in high school when the whole grunge movement exploded and was a huge fan of Nirvana. I can still remember where I was when they announced Kurt Cobain's death. I had just left work and was listening to the radio when they broke the news that he had committed suicide. I remember having to pull over because I was in shock over the news. The city of Aberdeen itself isn't much to look at. This park was turned into a memorial to Kurt years after his death. His childhood home is a couple of blocks away and this was the park that he frequented as a teenager. The park has many memorial pieces that pay tribute to Kurt. The area under Young Street Bridge where Kurt Cobain would hang out is covered in graffiti. Young Street Bridge crosses over the murky Wishkah River and is the inspiration for the Nirvana song "Something in the Way". The lyrics are etched on an aluminum plaque in the park. Other memorial pieces include a guitar sculpture, a likeness of Kurt and quotes from him on a headstone. The park itself is very small and it doesn't take long to see everything. There were some homeless people hanging out when I was here. I saw other fans walking around taking photos and paying tribute to Kurt Cobain. The neighbors at the house next to the park have several signs that ask to leave them alone. I am guessing that they must get many visitors or get mistaken for Kurt's childhood home. read more

This is the tiniest little park and worth at least coming to once just because. Kurt cobain is... nostalgic. It's interesting to see whoever created the park refer to him as a hero, but I mean, ok. If you drive one street over and up a couple blocks you can see what they say was his childhood home. There's a sign on the screen door. Only enough room for 2 people to park. But you could park up the road and walk. There's a bench to sit and watch the wishkaw. And bring old shoes if it's not summer because yes, it's muddy. read more

It's a tiny, TINY park, with one picnic table (which someone was sleeping on when we went), one guitar statue, one sign and the neighbors have a directional sign with warnings from what we saw. However due to the nature of some sketch guys lounging in the park, we did not go further than the guardrail at the end of the street. Kurt Cobain Memorial Park, aka Cobain Landing and Kurt Cobain Riverfront Park, is a small park that was originally created by local residents Tori and Marcia Kovach and Denny Jackson. When they moved away, it was transferred to the city of Aberdeen...a city that for many years refused to acknowledge Cobain in any official way. Parking is at the end of a dead end street and there's not much space there. Tip: if there's room when you arrive, do the 3 point turnabout thing and point your car opposite the park so you don't get inadvertently boxed in. Before there was this park, it was a place where Kurt liked to hangout, under the bridge on the muddy banks of the Wishkah River (just beyond the park itself). He lived a very short distance away so it would be an easy walk to escape to this place on the river. After Kurt's death, this is where friends and family gathered to spread a portion of his ashes into the tidal Wishkah River. Today, you'll find a large guitar sculpture that is covered in graffiti...notes to Cobain from fans that have traveled from all around the planet to pay tribute to the artist that changed, and some say saved, their lives through his music and lyrics. There's also a memorial marker with quotes from Cobain etched into the stone. One of the quotes reads "wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are." It's good that this park exists. It's a place for fans to gather, pay tribute and maybe get a feel for the place that played a significant enough role in his life that he wrote songs about this place. At the beginning of this review I mentioned how Kurt's hometown has largely ignored his life (and death). I'm happy to report that, just days before writing this review, the Aberdeen City Council unanimously voted to make February 20th (Cobain's birthday) Kurt Cobain Day in Aberdeen Washington. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews , not sure what anyone would expect from a free park maintained by a small, rural town. A few reviews mentioned the neighborhood is bad. It was quiet. There isn't any parking and it is not clearly marked; we did drive by the location on our way to the park. When we finally got there, it is in a residential area near Kurts childhood home. A town that once was a drug ridden place is starting to be re-vamped. There is a clear sign from one of the neighbors about the park and the trash that is left behind. but what this monument stands for, is so much more- it is meant to honor the fallen musician and pay homage to the roots of grunge music. I found it was a proper way to honor the musiclover in me while paying respects to Kurt and his music. read more

I don't understand negative reviews for a spot like this. It's a free park to honor a local rockstar, maintained by the city of Aberdeen. It's probably the only reason anyone even comes to Aberdeen, which is just a sleepy rural town (a blue-collar logging town, actually) with no other claim to fame. I don't mean that in any negative way, btw. You're treating this spot like it's a Michelin-starred restaurant or something. Sorry a humble little park near where a musician got his start didn't roll out the red carpet for you! Honestly, if you're not a fan of Kurt, Nirvana, or music history, you might be disappointed and should probably skip it. There's no official parking area but there's ample parking on the street. I had no problem finding a spot a few steps away. There are a few signs and statues, as well as the famous Wishkah bridge, immortalized in the song "Something in the Way." Someone was playing guitar underneath the bridge when we came. It's a quick stop. There's also a sign that provides the address for Kurt's house, a block away. If you choose to pass by, be respectful. It appears the current owners have had their share of unwelcome visitors. They have a camera installed as well as heavy/dark curtains in place. We stopped here during a road trip from Seattle to the Hoh Rainforest (Forks). It was a perfect road trip stop. Not sure if it's worth it as a destination though as you'll be in/out in 10 minutes. read more

High school is waaay over so I'm not, like, obsessed with Nirvana or Kurt Cobain anymore, but it was still neat to go. Now if you're obsessed, go. But if you're not obsessed, don't go unless you're already in Aberdeen. We finished all our hiking with Olympic National Park and stayed in Aberdeen for 1 night. I think Aberdeen is a natural pit stop for most people doing ONP. The next morning we had our breakfast at the park before hitting the road for Olympia and Seattle. You could study all the signs and take pics and finish up in 10-15 minutes. It's a really small park by a bridge by a river. It was just us so it was quiet. You'll feel safe in the sunshine because Aberdeen is a quiet sleepy town. The park is at the edge of a residential neighborhood where super regular people live. Wear your hiking shoes. Toms will not do. I was so paranoid about stepping on needles, so I watched the ground. I don't know why people would give this 1-2 stars. It's free; no admission. And it's a place to reflect for a short moment about his writing and his words and to think about this town that influenced his music. I think he's really important to music history. He def deserves a better memorial and he's one of the most famous things to come out of Aberdeen, but you'll see that this is a poor town. Like I said, come if you're obsessed. The town itself doesn't have much. I loved the restaurant Mia-C. But that's about it. There's a 7/11. If you're not obsessed, actually research and make a plan so you're not disappointed. read more

Visited the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park. No real parking area that I could find. Directions take you to a no outlet/end of road area. Tight side road neighborhood parking. Luckily, I have a small car and was able to maneuver around the other cars parked. No restrooms and no paved trail. A few benches and table to sit if needed. The park is very small but views of the river are amazing. Under the bridge is some garbage, graffiti and pigeons. The statues of Kurt's tribute were nice with some graffiti. If you bring children please be aware of waters edge and no guard rails to stop from falling. Also bring old shoes when raining since it is muddy. read more

I'm not too sure if this park is worth going to numerous times. It isn't that big of a park. It's more like a small pie slice shaped park that goes under a nearby bridge in which Kurt Cobain apparently used to spend a lot of time. The park isn't a total bust however and there are very fitting contributions to the singer there. There is a great guitar statue and signs in which you can read up on the spot. Going under the bridge is interesting... lots of graffiti Nirvana style. If you go to other sites that have Nirvana history (like Viretta Park for example) graffiti is almost a staple when visiting these places. Part of the grunge following and the other part is simply because people can. If you want to go up to the back corner underneath the bridge be careful... the embankment is slippery and steep. There is a house right by the park that apparently has gotten lots of visitor traffic over the years with inquiries about if they knew the singer, if they were a gift shop and so on. The home owners made a sign right by the park that covers all of the general questions people have presented to them which actually is informative and amusing. There is no parking for the park. You will either need to park your car across the bridge by a school or try to park in the residential neighborhood the park is in. The park is the dead end for a street and if you don't plan on spending a great deal of time at the park you could probably get away with it but if you plan to do something long term best park in a designated parking area where other cars are parked. If you enjoy rock history and Nirvana history then this park is worth a stop. I really enjoyed Nirvana back in the day and have gone to Viretta Park and gone past some houses where Cobain used to live in Aberdeen and Olympia but this Nirvana fan is okay with just going to this park once... just to say that I've been there and move on. read more

This is a tiny park, but it is packed full of love for Kurt. It's a few blocks down the road from Kurt's childhood home. If pure a Kurt/nirvana fan this park is its own kind Mecca. From Kurts air guitar stand to the muddy banks of the wishkah this park is a great monument to Kurts life, music, and the love community has for him. If you're in Aberdeen, you're probably look for Kurt related stuff. Definitely stop here it's worth the time. read more

As a tribute to Kurt, it reflects a really rough and grungy spot as you would expect. There's no parking, just a residential street with a area under a bridge converted to a makeshift park. The benches, statue and plaques are there, but every aspect of the park is both solemn and gritty. As others have noted, there's graf, drug paraphernalia, trash (today there were multiple shopping carts and a vacuum) and I feel like you probably get most of the same vibes Kurt must have gotten spending time here. The park seems empty most times. I was the only person there for the hour I was hanging around, except for the random bike riders coming over the bridge. I'm actually relieved it wasn't something really tidy or manicured which isn't what I picture Kurt would like as a legacy for his music. Anyone that's a Nirvana fan should pay their respects here. These people are the people he hate probably coming from Bellevue in their teslas thinking their better than everyone. I went at night, so couldn't quite judge the peace or beauty of the view from this park. But I can tell you--it's a small little green area at the end of 2nd St with a few memorials for Kurt. As you see in the pics, there's the air guitar holder, as well as a guitar statue and a couple of plaques, maybe more that I totally couldn't see. I also ventured under the bridge, heart-racing since my phone's flashlight couldn't quite see far enough to know if there were any inhabitants ready to pounce; luckily there weren't, so I enjoyed sloshing in the rain boots that had seen Hoh Rain Forest that day, shining my flashlight at some of the graffiti and the somewhat artsy supports under the bridge. This park is alright, and maybe even an interesting metaphor to Kurt's life in Aberdeen. I imagined Kurt hanging out on those banks and under that bridge in the imaginative play of childhood. Though a small town and an even smaller park along the muddy banks of the Wishkah, Kurt was inspired to grow up and produce not only a few songs but a musical movement. Like many other greats, particularly those meeting early deaths, there's an interesting juxtaposition between the joy of childhood playing in the mud and both the troubles of teenage angst and the obvious pains that lead many down fatal paths. Round the corner and walk a couple of blocks to one of his old homes, and you'll see again that miracles come from modesty. Unfortunately, sometimes these miracles expire long before their time. Bottom line: It's the thought that counts. I give this park a 4 for inspiration. read more

Been here twice, if you're a Kurt fan you will want to check it out. In 2014 I did a self guided Kurt Cobain tour starting with his family home located at 1210 East 1st St. Then to the park, a spot he frequented in Tacoma and ending at his home in Seattle where he died. The park has some really great features, a larger than life Fender Mustang statue is my favorite. It's a nice place to visit and reflect on your inner nirvana. read more

Kind of chintzy and a little too fanboy-oriented, but an interesting quick stop, nonetheless. Got out of the car here for the first time in hours and was distressed to discover that there are no public bathrooms anywhere nearby: the park doesn't have any, and it's in a residential area. Bad planning, park. On the upside, I got to piss under the bridge that Kurt himself probably pissed under on at least one occasion while accumulating the experiences that he sung about in "Something in the Way." read more

A very unique place for a memorial, located in a quaint residential setting. The area is fairly well kempt but the area under the adjacent bridge has plenty of litter, including condom packages. The memorial to Kurt is very plain and basic; you can tell it wasn't an expensive project. But, at least something is erected in this area for Kurt. read more

The park is a nice reflection of Kurt and his life, both in that it's a place he actually hung out at and wrote a song about, as well as being simple and rather understated. This is a must-see in Aberdeen! Hadn't even heard of this Kurt Cobain memorial until it came up on Instagram as a nearby location. It merits 5 stars because (a) it's free, (b) it's just about the only attraction in the tiny town of Aberdeen and (c) Kurt is an icon! This doesn't have the feel of an official memorial but is basically a random collection of sculptures on a dead-end street in a pretty downtrodden-looking neighborhood. HMMMM drove there from Seattle because I had a day to kill with my teenaged son...he thought there was a lot to see in Aberdeen, but we were pretty disappointed. We missed the park the first few times we drove by the bridge, but finally found it. Recommend you stick to the Museum in Seattle near the Space Needle that has all of his letters, guitars, writings, and a great display of his music and the band's history. We didn't even find his home in Aberdeen, even though it was on Waze there wasn't a house number. We're betting it was the brown one? read more

It's authentic. It's a dump. It's in the back of this sketchy neighborhood. Yes, it's the neighborhood he grew up in but it's still sketch. You have to park in front of people's houses to walk to it. It's about 20 feet by 20 feet. The coolest part is they have a guitar rack for his air guitar. You can see the bridge that he sat under but it's trashed. The river is gross. It's cool in that they didn't glamor it up. It's rough in that it's rough. read more
