Stayed on Loop 4 at 178. Big mistake. In all the years we've gone camping I've never experienced so…read moremany mosquito and insect bites. It was nearly impossible to go outside of our RV without being constantly attacked and bitten. Our legs were covered with bites that made our 3 nights stay very uncomfortable. We therefore opted to stay on the beach for the majority of the day then retreat much later to eat and sleep in our RV. After speaking with other campers, it became obvious that 178 was the worst for insect bites. Most sites didn't have as a severe problems as we did. Should we ever visit again, we will avoid 178 at all cost... Otherwise, Ocean Shores is a very sleepy community. Our best memories were hunting down 3 Garage Sales and meeting some great residents. Restaurant prices are very high as we weren't' going to pay $37 for a pizza or $34 for meager Fish & Chips (takeout)! The driving beach adjacent to the town was very crowded but once you go north of the Casino, it became more spread out and enjoyable. My advice? Go north my son, go north, and try and avoid the town entirely (unless you have kids)!

As a first time visitor of Ocean Shores, the drive to North Jetty beach is worth the trip. The slow…read morepace as you enter town and cruise your way toward the beach, you'll see quaint coastal houses and shops along the way. The beach has a good amount of parking. A few portable bathrooms available, fairly clean too. You'll walk through some small dunes into the beach area where it's wide and plenty of space. We saw several people walking their dogs, flying kites with their families, and jogging through the area. It's a cool beach if you're in the Ocean Shores area visiting.

Same awesome king tides in the winter, beautiful view of the ocean and ships that go by. Lots of sea grass till you hit the black boulders that help with erosion from the waves. If you head out towards the sandy beach, note it is super soft sand and you'll slide all around unless you are strong so bring a friend or walking stick to hold onto if needed. Always tons of birds hanging out on the soft sand side.

Parking is super accessible. The great thing is that you can drive your car straight onto the beach or you can park by the gift shop and walk over. You'll find a bunch of people sitting outside of their cars and their food. It's quite windy here so if you're into flying kites, you'll love it here. You can also see people riding horses here too. Overall the beach is kind of lackluster and the water is pretty dirty.

We had to just leave. The stalls looked like they hadn't been cleaned in 24 hours at least, and this was on a holiday weekend which really merited more attention to the bathroom sanitation. Look after your beach bathrooms Ocean Shores!

Be aware please, there are serious undercurrents. I actually got swept up in one there and I am a seriously good swimmer. I had to be rescued. And I truly thought I was gonna die. Here's what the problem was folks: I was not wearing my life jacket what an idiot! There are several fun things you can do at this beach: If you have a volleyball net and Legs nobody is going to stop you from having fun doing volleyball. There's a really great reason for this there is a lot of beach! Truly nobody gets crowded there at least from what I've seen. There's plenty of people on the beach but not 5 feet away from you. I just want to touch back on the nickname Washaway beach: it's a beach that's been washing away and has taken mobile homes stick built homes entire neighborhoods in fact. But there is a structural engineer that was able to put a stop on it. You can look it up just look up structural engineer for Washaway beach. Here's something you may not know I find it delightful though. You can drive on the beach because it's an actual highway! The drivers are extremely careful don't even worry about that but the best part about it is you can park where you want to set up your stuff! Now don't tell your parents this: but it is the best place in the world that I have been to for kite flying! They also have a clamming season and they're delicious.

We stay in Ocean Shores but ALWAYS make time to go to Westport. They have the best Marina "strip"…read morewhen it comes to walking distance shops, restaurants, and charm. We loved watching jellyfish and seeing Sea Lions right off the dock! We love Half-Moon Beach for the waves, the rock-hunting and how natural it is. The path from the observation tower to the end of the beach is well maintained and easy walking. We also loved watching the boats - even the HUGE ships in the bay! My family loves Westport and highly recommend it for a stay or a day trip if you're in the area!!

But you will not regret coming here (especially if you were considering going to Ocean Shores!) The 18 miles of sandy beaches that stretch from Westport to Tokeland is otherwise known as the South Beach is everything you would want in a Pacific Northwest Beach. Whether you're looking for a fishing adventure, beautiful beaches, surfing, kite flying, whale watching, crabbing, or just relaxing, the South Beach is the place to be. In the summer, you can beat it to beat the heat. It's not overdeveloped, in fact its quite understated. The marina district has a nice mixture of upscale restaurants (we got our first sushi restaurant, yay!) and hole-in-the-wall diners. Fishing is still a very important part of the community, and if you've ever wanted to try a fishing charter, you can do that from July 1 until the quotas are met for less than a round of drinks in downtown Seattle. Surfing is huge here, at Westhaven State Park and Half Moon Bay. There are 2 surf shops in town (Steepwater Surf Shop, and The Surf Shop) that can outfit you with a wetsuit and a board for under $50. A lesson will cost a little more, but not by much. Bikes and paddleboats are available for rent down on the water. Kites can be purchased for just a few dollars and can keep your kids busy for hours. In the spring and fall, watch the WDFW to see when the beaches are open for clamming. During crab season, you can drop your crab pots right off of the fisherman's boardwalk - no boats required. Starting in September, the salmon that were released by the local high school class start to return to the Marina, and you can fish right off the boardwalk and participate in the Salmon Derby. There is all kinds of old fashioned fun here. It's perfect for a romantic getaway or a family trip. Day trips and overnighters. There is everything from campgrounds to low budget motels, to luxury condos. All only 2 hours from Sea Tac!"

My Olympic Loop trip with my family was capped off with a huge exclamtion point in Ocean Shores…read morewith Nansea Stables. Being from Chicago, the closest opportunities my 7 and 10 year old girls get to be with real horses are at the zoos, at those cheesy traveling carnivals, and a quick look whizing past farms at 60 MPH. So when I learned about Nansea's 3 hour Horse Course, I thought this would be the perfect surprise outing to cap off an already impressive 4-day journey we've had through all the beaches, lodges, and rain forests.

Couple of sculptures with descriptions that pay tribute to Kurt Cobain of what this place meant to him and I thought that air guitar stand was so funny. Mini hike that you can do through the woods, but I get scared bc I was by myself. So, I did not go in myself... but, this is a 3 minute walk away from the childhood home of Kurt Cobain, which you cannot enter because it is private property, but there is a description to read by the front of the fence gate. How cool it is to see the neighborhood that was origin of Kurt Cobain!

It's creepy under the bridge, so it's probably better for people who appreciate this type of vibe and views of the water. There's random goose poop throughout the park and under the bridge. I had to find out the hard way after my dog rubbed on some in the grass. Luckily, they have a big open garbage can here. The only parking is on the street in front of houses.
