Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at any athletic event? The rest of the story is under reviews of this spot!

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at any athletic event? Look at the judges. I will let you in on a secret- the individuals who judge surf contests are tough. Tough as nails. In this particular year, the judges sat outside in a high wind with a temperature in the 50's. For 10 hours. (Photo posted under the photo section). This particular event is a fundraiser for the non profit Surfrider Foundation. The event is the Clean Water Classic surf contest and the event was held in Westport, Washington. This beach is great for kids and adults during warm weather. During cold and windy times, be prepared for the weather. Keep an eye on the kiddos at all times in the ocean as a general rule at any beach (you already know that!). One of the stories and trips from https://www.threegirlsfourtires.com

Small and simple state park and beach. Even in the wintertime this is a nice place to check out and walk along the surf. Also much less crowded then.... Don't forget your Discover Pass for your car as the rangers will ticket you without one...

    Sunset at Westhaven beach.

Westhaven is a real nice state park beach. We came here in the summer and it still had that classic northwest beach feel. Swimmers in dry suits, people playing catch and a few kites sparsely populated the beach but left well enough space for everyone there to enjoy. The sunset over the bay was quite beautiful and makes for a great spot to walk over to after dinner in the strip at Westhaven harbor.

What is different about the beach here as opposed to Ocean Shores or other beaches at sea level is that the ocean has carved a wall of sand out.

We loved watching jellyfish and seeing Sea Lions right off the dock! We love Half-Moon Beach for the waves, the rock-hunting and how natural it is. The path from the observation tower to the end of the beach is well maintained and easy walking. We also loved watching the boats - even the HUGE ships in the bay! My family loves Westport and highly recommend it for a stay or a day trip if you're in the area!!

But you will not regret coming here (especially if you were considering going to Ocean Shores!) The 18 miles of sandy beaches that stretch from Westport to Tokeland is otherwise known as the South Beach is everything you would want in a Pacific Northwest Beach. Whether you're looking for a fishing adventure, beautiful beaches, surfing, kite flying, whale watching, crabbing, or just relaxing, the South Beach is the place to be. In the summer, you can beat it to beat the heat. It's not overdeveloped, in fact its quite understated. The marina district has a nice mixture of upscale restaurants (we got our first sushi restaurant, yay!) and hole-in-the-wall diners. Fishing is still a very important part of the community, and if you've ever wanted to try a fishing charter, you can do that from July 1 until the quotas are met for less than a round of drinks in downtown Seattle. Surfing is huge here, at Westhaven State Park and Half Moon Bay. There are 2 surf shops in town (Steepwater Surf Shop, and The Surf Shop) that can outfit you with a wetsuit and a board for under $50. A lesson will cost a little more, but not by much. Bikes and paddleboats are available for rent down on the water. Kites can be purchased for just a few dollars and can keep your kids busy for hours. In the spring and fall, watch the WDFW to see when the beaches are open for clamming. During crab season, you can drop your crab pots right off of the fisherman's boardwalk - no boats required. Starting in September, the salmon that were released by the local high school class start to return to the Marina, and you can fish right off the boardwalk and participate in the Salmon Derby. There is all kinds of old fashioned fun here. It's perfect for a romantic getaway or a family trip. Day trips and overnighters. There is everything from campgrounds to low budget motels, to luxury condos. All only 2 hours from Sea Tac!"

On the coast with some winding little trails under the trees and through the sand, the day use area and one row of campground sites were open. We decided to take the trails on a short leg-stretcher just to see what Twin Harbors was all about. Up and over the sandy dunes and around muddy patches we weaved for a mile or so, and back through the campground to the van. The beaches were empty, a few campers staying overnight, and a handful of cars coming and going from day use. It felt pretty peaceful at Twin Harbors, we would've happily grabbed a site for a night if we weren't heading home. Probably wouldn't be more to do here for more than one night, but it's a low-key spot for a stopover or picnic.

We brought our cages and nets to do some crabbing for 1 1/2 days. Arrived on Friday, 5/30/25, late afternoon at 2:30 PM. There were way too many people on the boardwalk, so we couldn't get a decent spot. Still did some crabbing by throwing the nets down for a few hours, until 7:30 PM. Got some nice sized keepers.... On Saturday, it was pouring rain until 12:00 PM. But went out from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM to obtain Dungeness Crab Limits for 4 People! 2 Coolers full of them! It was a great day after the rain stopped and we were able to catch an abundant amount of keepers! Turned out to be a nice day and an enjoyable weekend catching some crabs for the family!!! Good views from the jetty and it gets even better going to where the fishermen are on the boardwalk. There is also a tower to go up on the west side of the marina for good views as well. When Steve and I were walking along the docks and bridges of the marina we spotted a some aquatic wildlife like harbor seals and jellyfish.
