Mike was very responsive to my inquiry and all of my questions. He not only provided a great playlist for the evening but also furnished the outdoor lighting, lawn games, dance floor, and the awesome Aloha sign. After hours of research to find the best wedding DJ/MC on Kauai, I was lucky enough to come across Kustom Sounds Kauai. Hiring their team was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day! Having people on the dance floor was a top priority for me and KSK made that happen with ease. I knew I needed to find someone that was professional, responsive, easy to talk to and reasonably priced. From our very first email correspondence I knew KSK was a strong contender. Once you put down a deposit, they work with you to make sure everything goes smoothly for you on the day of the event. My wife and I got married at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and Kustom Sounds Kauai was one of the preferred vendors of the hotel. By far they stood out from the other choices. They have great communication, upon selection we received a play list and questionnaire. Once we got on the island they got in touch with us and when we met our DJ he assured me everyone would have a good time and he delivered. There time management was great given how late we were taking pictures. Every wedding guest got into the music and we had the time of our lives. We got married at a private residence in Kauai in May 2016 and are happy to highly recommend Kustom Sounds Kauai! We planned our wedding from California and Mike was super fast to respond via email for all communication and planning. He made it so easy! We used their live guitarist and their DJ services and were thrilled with everything! The live musician (slack key guitarist) played during our welcome reception and during the cocktail hour. He was punctual and flexible - he moved his set-up when it threatened rain - and his music was exactly what we hoped for in the background of our Hawaiian wedding. Danny was our DJ and he was fabulous! We later found out he got a flat tire on the way to our event, changed it by himself, and was still on time like nothing ever happened! He did a great job as emcee, introducing us as Mr. and Mrs. and introducing people for toasts. We were super vague in our direction of what type of music we wanted, and told Danny to just read the crowd. He did exactly that! Country music, 70s, top 40, even Let It Go from Frozen for our young nieces and nephews... it was perfect! He even stayed for an extra hour at the last minute. I shopped around different music vendors to find a good price as we were on a budget and weren't even going to get music. Mike was the DJ at our wedding reception and also provided sound for the ceremony at Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. The ceremony was at the Makai Meadow at the end of a 3 minute shuttle from the main entrance. They had our Officiant and musician wired for sound, and a microphone stand for us during our vows. Not much to say about the ceremony sound other than that it worked and it was unobtrusive. If you've been to many weddings, you've heard sound glitches. Everything at our ceremony went perfectly. The reception was a few minutes away at Common Ground Kauai. Again, everything went perfectly. Mike had bubbles blowing and balloons for the kids during the cocktail hour, and kept things moving as the MC throughout the night. When a lot of guests looked like they were getting ready to leave early with their little ones, Mike helped move up the sparkler send-off smoothly and we were able to get all our guests together without losing any families with kids. I was reading through these reviews and very surprised by the recent spat of bad reviews (maybe a competitor?). My wife and I used KSK (Mike) as our wedding company a few years ago and they were amazing. Since then, my brother used him for his wedding, my mother used him for her 60th birthday and we recently used him for our first baby luau... and every time, Mike's music was amazing, his personality and mic skills really helped the dance floor get going and he went over and above what most DJs would do to make the party as good as possible. I later learned that Mike has been a professional DJ for over 30 years, and his experience shows. Having lived on Kauai my whole life (except for the past few years in LA), I can say I've never seen a better wedding DJ either in Hawaii or even in LA. read more

My friends hired Kustom Sounds Kauai for their wedding that I attended earlier this month. Unfortunately, the experience was not ideal, and pales in comparison to the other reviews here. The DJ did not play the songs the bride had selected beforehand, and we spent most of the time that should have been spent on the dance floor picking the songs. To add insult to injury, the DJ scoffed at these requests (coming from the bride!) with attitude. I would not recommend this service for your event. A DJ for a special event, whether it is a wedding, party, etc. shouldn't be something you have to manage during the event. I hate to say it but you are better off playing the music yourself if you had an experience like ours. read more

First let me start by saying KSK were a breeze to work with! Mike was on point, gracious and accommodating throughout the planning stages. I got the sense from the beginning this was a professional organization. And whoa! When it came to my actual event I couldn't have been more pleased with DJ Zach. As a former wedding DJ I know that even a good crowd can be ruined by a bad DJ. It was clear from the beginning of the event that DJ Zach knew how to work the crowd, keep the energy at a VERY high level and get the crowd engaged. Throughout the entire event our group danced their arses off, sang at the top of their lungs, laughed and made memories. Again, a average or bad DJ can ruin that. My goal with the reception, as I can imagine yours will be too, is to make sure the beverages, food and music are memorable....DJ Zach and the entire bunch at KSK certainly did their part. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed in the DJ's lack of performance and behavior on the day of our wedding, which was recently in June. He had to be told multiple times to play the originally requested songs from the playlist for the reception, and did not perform as an MC in any way at all. He made announcements over the microphone a few times throughout the night, but was very quiet for the majority of the time and did not try to engage the party in any way at all. He was very rude to some guests after they advised him to only play songs the bride originally requested, and spoke to them in a very discourteous manner. He also decided to follow one of my bridesmaids and her sister up the stairs as they made their way into the bridal master bedroom to change their clothing, maybe hoping he could "get lucky". My bridesmaid and her sister were very disturbed by his unusual behavior and told me about it right away. Secondly, unbeknownst to my husband and I, the DJ decided he wanted to stay after the reception and hang out. This was fine, however, it was very unprofessional that he was too intoxicated at the end of the night to leave the premises. We had to tell him multiple times to pack up his equipment and go home, but he kept refusing and attempted to sleep inside the wedding house. After a lot of yelling he finally left, but decided to sleep in his van overnight on the property. We then had to pack his equipment for him and place it outside the house. We did not feel safe that he was still on the property, so we made it a point to lock all of the doors to the house that night. This kind of behavior as a DJ is unprofessional, rude, and very disturbing. The owner failed to apologize after I informed him of everything, and only said that he'd "look into it". I definitely would NOT recommend Kustom Sounds Kauai for your wedding, unless you're looking to take a gamble and be stuck with a terrible DJ. If we had known, we honestly would have just played music from our Spotify and not wasted our money. read more

DJ Zack was amazing!! My sister's recent wedding was at the Beach House restaurant in Kauai -- a stunning location that calls for an equally amazing playlist. Since this was a destination wedding, the guests were a funky mix of little kids, best pals in their late 20s/early 30s, and older folks. Somehow he pleased everyone and had us all doing singalongs at the tables while waiting for the food, jumping up to dance after dinner, back down to sit quietly while waiting for cake and champagne, and then back up to party until closing. He also emceed, introducing the first dance, the guests who wanted to give speeches, and transitioning us from energetic moments to contemplative ones. To put this review into perspective, I have over a decade experience in FM radio and night-club DJing, so i'm a stickler when it comes to music. Kustom Sounds made our reception incredible fun. Not only was Mike easy to work with but he was incredibly accomodating and professional. Two examples: + He played EVERY song we requested prior to the event, all at the perfect times! he didn't miss a single one + We had a few Persian songs we wanted to play and handed him a CD just prior to the reception. Mike managed to blend those songs in seamlessly into the night, as if he'd used them many times before + During the reception we asked Mike for a special request - mind you, this is in the middle of the party - and even though he didn't have the song, he went online immediately and downloaded it from the internet (assuming Itunes)! I also have to commend his DJ-style, as he managed to keep the party going the entire night. There were no dead-moments, no "floor-killers", and no "what the hell is this?"-type songs.
