I spent 6 weeks at MN Glen Cove this past Autumn. I had waited months to get a bed here, and Years…read moreto even embark on treatment. I put a lot of hope into this experience. The first few weeks were ok. But my problem- from the beginning- was that they do not screen clients for Covid prior to admission. They do not require new clients to be tested before arrival. They do not require staff to be vaccinated (not even the RC's who eat with us around the crowded dining room table six times a day- talking, laughing). At least, this was the situation when I was there a couple Months ago, before Omnicron. Hopefully they have changed their foolish ways by now. BUT, as of late October 2021, this was the scene: When clients arrived they dumped us immediately in the milieu with everyone else. They bring you to a local urgent care center to get a test the next day (unless you arrive on a Friday- then you wait until Monday to get a test). This is the organization's actual policy - I had to write to Dr Jahruas the CMO to verify. How is this a policy during a Pandemic?! We had a COVID positive client arrive on Thursday Oct. 14. They were tested 10/15, and their test resulted- positively- on Saturday 10/16. Meanwhile, the client was in the milieu with us and had 9 maskless meals/snacks with us before the test came back. The only reason the rest of us did not catch it is that the client was very smart and cautious and wore a N95 every moment they were not dining. Not only did Monte Nido's dangerous policy expose us all to COVID last weekend, but the situation was managed horribly. The director or assistant director and/or the site's NP should have come in person to speak to us as soon as the exposure was known. We were so frightened. Instead, none of the staff members on duty (RCs and nurse) were allowed to admit anything, though we all guessed what was going on because the client was whisked away to a single room and isolated until they went home Sunday morning; wknd activities were canceled and we were left to watch tv all day in the infested milieu and the RCs were super stressed, obviously. The nurse on duty Sunday was finally instructed to announce the exposure on Sunday afternoon. The therapist on duty Sunday was wearing an isolation gown and face shield; I asked her if we clients could have face shields and she snapped "We're not talking about this!" Around 2pm Sunday afternoon, another client started experiencing COVID symptoms: headache, sore throat, and extreme fatigue. I alerted Sunday's nurse right away, expecting (foolishly) that since there was a known exposure and now this 2nd client was symptomatic, they would be isolated as well. But no. I told the evening nurse as well but she gave zero forks. By the following morning (Monday, 10/18), this client could barely hold up her head but she was STILL forced to eat breakfast with us, maskless of course. I felt so uncomfortable that I left the table (a big no-no) and told the Monday RN about the situation. FINALLY this client was isolated from the rest of us. Thank God her test came back negative. If she had had COVID, we all would have been unnecessarily exposed. A few other notes: while I was there, a therapist made a highly offensive, hurtful, and childish comment to a transgender client. The client was, understandably, deeply hurt. The place is very hard to adjust to for working, self-supporting adults. Some of the clients were really young, like 18, but Others (including yours truly) were accomplished professionals. Some clients had young children at home. The rules and the attitudes of some staff members were really patronizing-- humiliating actually. For one thing, we were only allowed access to our phones two hours a week. We were forbidden from going to our rooms during the day; they were locked from 7:30am til 10pm (bedtime). We were all forced to go to bed at 10pm, even on weekends. We were only allowed to watch tv after dinner and on the wknds. We were not allowed to go out into the beautiful yard without an RC, and due to staffing issues, RCs were tasked with preparing/plating meals and didn't have much time to just sit around with us. The house isn't that large, so basically all our non- sleeping/eating free time was spent in the living room. Imagine 14 clients sitting around on 2 couches, coloring and making string bracelets all day. Don't get me started on the frank danger that occurred at night. Oh, the bathrooms were locked at 10:30 pm. The evening RCs often fell asleep downstairs on the first floor or in the basement staff room. Thus, if one woke up at night and had to pee, one would have to wonder all over to find someone to unlock the bathroom. As of two months ago, this site was not safe. I really hope and pray that things have improved since I left.

I would not recommend this specific location to anyone who wishes to recover in a healthy and supportive way. I would definitely support other affiliates, just not this one. I'm very upset with the outcome and very hurt with how things ended. It never should have been allowed.

I requested another caregiver who was unable to read the telemonitor, asking "what do those numbers mean". I emailed and called several times and was ignored. They certainly were on top of things when i was considering hiring. I thought I should have been refunded for at least the two nights. Again I was ignored. I found them to be unprofessional, untruthful but most importantly the care and knowledge was inferior. Stay away from this if you care about your loved ones, I wish I had.

As a result, they have an obligation to try to keep their customers happy. We needed a companion for our beloved family member and while we were a little shocked by the cost, $600 a night, we hoped that the companions who we hired would be empathetic and hopefully we'll compensated for their time. Overall we were very satisfied with the companions as well as the customer service. One thing you should know. If you arrange for a companion and your patient ends up getting discharged from the hospital, you still have to pay the full price for night. No refunds. So I'd advise waiting until the afternoon before reserving a companion or nurse, since once you order the service you are committed to pay the full price.
