The basic concepts that made this place great: quality "comfort food" and cocktails, remain! The cocktails are delicious (and they regularly have good deals and change the menu), the brunch also remains and seems delicious and the pastrami are great. 150 gr of smoked meat in-house (yes they do it all themselves - and yes, it's hallal) with quality bread (for now they buy it at "La Fleur de Pain" but will soon do it themselves), which just melts in your mouth, it's yummy! This charming little bar in the Flagey area is a hidden gem. It doesn't get as crowded as some of the other spots nearby, but the ambiance is absolutely lovely and inviting. The selection of beers on tap is decent, and they also offer cocktails and other drinks. They have a variety of food and snacks for those who want to eat or need a bite, and there's even a room with darts and billiards for those who want to take a break from their drinks (or drink and play). Super slow turnover for the food and I received insufficient portions. My portabello burger might as well have been a button mushroom burger. Bun was overheated and hard as a cracker. It seems that many people here liked the burgers but disliked the service. Although I certainly didn't dislike the burger, I've had better in Brussels. Le Clan, Super Filles. You name it. The important difference for me is the patty. I am not a big fan of the thin, dry, neat patty type of burger and prefer the big, messy, juicy patty that you can actually order rare. Amour Fou's patties are a bit thinner than the ones at other burger places nearby. The toppings were good, though. My girlfriend fell in love with the bannoffee pie. Which was huge, by the way. I am not a sweets person, but I thought it was pretty good as well. As far as the 'experience' goes: I thought the service was good, considering the place was chock full. My first time at Amour Fou for crazy hamburger tasting hunt. Some friends were craving to eat great hamburger so after hearing some very positive advises from burger addicted friends we landed there. The decoration is artistic, service nice and polite. L'amour specialised themselves in burgers... So in case you are looking for salads /soups you won't find them. Burgers are served with fries & salad (there you go the green part ;-)) Not being a 1st class burger taster I've to say I wasn't disappointed. At L'Amour Fou I've had one of my best burgers, but also my worst restaurant experience ever. I've been many (many) times to this place, and every time the food was great but the service was a disaster. Top of the top was that one time I went with a group of girlfriends for brunch, we had made a reservation and everything, and we were prepared for bad service. We haven't been disappointed, it was even worse than expected. But they have also managed to serve us warm yoghurt&granola and still frozen scones, in ridiculous small portions for an abusive high price. And yes they do have the best banoffee pie! And no it's no kidding: they make you wait for hours, forget your order, spill mustard on your trousers with no word of excuse, or try to make you believe you can't pay with red coins. read more

The special burger (can't remember the name) with fried chicken, bacon, guacamole with fried onion was spot on! So delicious! Chips were good, also enjoyed the homemade limonade. Loved the dressing they have on their salads too! My brother had the pulled beef burger (with the BBQ sauce) but I'm confused cause in Australia it is different, here it was almost raw (or raw?) so I'm not sure if In Belgium it's this way but it is way different that the pulled meat I used to eat. read more

I ate at L'Amour Fou with a group of friends (I think there were about 10-12 of us), this place is great for groups. Atmosphere is chill and relaxed with the decor simple. Service is pretty good even when they are busy (visited on a Friday evening when they were quite full). Food is out of this world! The nachos are superb but smaller portions (as an appetizer, should split between 3 or 4 (maximum). Burgers are amazing--there is something for everyone! I had the portobello burger (which I had been craving for months actually) and it had excellent toppings and the fries were the best I've had in a while, not too greasy, just right. Only complaint I have (if you are a meat-eater) is that the beef burgers were too pink, they didn't ask you how you wanted it done and everyone's (in my opinion) was undercooked, if I was a meat-eater I would have sent it back (I used to eat meat years ago so I do know what I'm talking about...). Anyways, drink selections are also quite vast with great beers and other alcohols (we all split the "Route du Rum" at the table). Price was acceptable and fair for the quality received. Having major inner conflicts about the BBB (Best Burger in Brussels), my mind was set until I tried L'Amour Fou- suggested by a collegue and regular customer. Fact; they have "only 7" buergers, which is plenty, but they all seem a little alike. Maybe I expected more fish/veggie on the menu? Meanwhile my partner had the meanest Mexican flavoured burger ever; with a sidedish of sweet patatoes and chilli cheese nuggets and some decent crispy salad. The restaurant itself is a clean, open space with nice artsy decoration and the staff is very friendly. I'd suggest taking friends on a Sunday afternoon for a coctail and a burger! read more

This place is amazing!!! I came here for brunch. They have a wide range of burgers, and pancakes, and loads and loads of other delicious items. Having discovered from the waitress that they served gluten free buns, I settled for a breakfast burger and fries. The burger was the most amazing breakfast one I've had in a long time. And the fries with home made mustard mayonnaise is simply to die for. The food comes out quite quickly, and the restaurant was packed, so i'd recommend making a reservation. Great burgers, nice casual atmosphere. I've been to this well-known casual restaurant in Ixelles both for dinner and Sunday brunch, and had a good experience each time. The burgers are delicious, although if you're looking for something else you might find the menu a bit limiting. My one criticism is that the portions are a little small for the price. For €18 I expect a huge serving, which is not the case. However this is a tiny niggle - I highly recommend it, especially for group dinners. read more

I've tried a few burger joints in brussels but this place has got to be my favorite. The burger has serious flavor. Every ingredient in the burger seems to be full of flavor. The meat doesn't just taste late plain meat but it's savory. And the burger wasn't drippy and difficult to eat like other burgers but it cut really cleanly, which is a small detail but a plus for me. Apparently all their ingredients are organic so the price is pretty high for one burger (I think the price ranged from around 12€ for a plain burger with no cheese to around 17€ for the more sophisticated burgers). So be ready to cash out 20€ if you get a drink with the burger. But the burgers come with fries/cooked seasoned potatoes and a small side of salad so you're pretty full afterwards. The decor and ambience is a huge appeal, very casual. It can get pretty busy around dinner time so the noise level gets a bit loud with the music. All in all the burgers are superb but the price is just a little too high for a student like me. read more

Happy to update this review. While it doesn't seem that everyone is a fan of the pivot to pastrami, I think it gives the restaurant something unique and even artisanal that it didn't have before. The pastrami is clearly homemade and the team at L'Amour Fou knows how to make it right -- good even by American standards. The bread and coleslaw could use some minor improvements -- but for a pastrami sandwich (in Brussels nonetheless!!) it's par for the course. Well done! read more

I went to l'Amour Fou last night with my sister. We had reservations for 8pm. and when we arrived we were greeted by the most moody waitress ever. She mumbled a quick 'bonsoir' and then nodded her head at our small table which was cramped in between two others. We ordered some drinks and then waited AN HOUR for our food to arrive. We tried to get a hold of the waitress the few times she hurried past our table, simply to ask an estimation of the long wait, but she never stopped by. The long wait and rude behavior was frustrating and simply unacceptable, and we were actually on our way to leave when the food finally arrived. I had the Hâch Hâch (kind of shepherd's pie) and my sister went for the Moine burger. Mine was very good, which is why I'll give this place one star. My sister's was a disappointment; the bun had had too long in the oven, she found a small piece of bone in the beef, and the bacon was almost raw. Finally, I got hold of one of the waitresses and asked for the check, but after waiting 15 mins for it, I instead decided to wait by the cashier which I also saw other customers do. That did not suit her at all, and passing by she just said 'il faut payer à table!' - unbelievably rude. Overall, this place was a huge disappointment! Especially since I had read so many good things about it. Ixelles has so many nice places to offer - I won't be recommending this one. read more

We love the burgers here, we return from time to time. For the price, it's unbeatable. The pastrami is also excellent. The selection of Belgian beers matches the food well, and we liked the 'hand made' tee. With small children the place is passable, there's a little corner where they can play but they onl let you there if you are at least six. I would not specifically come with children here, this is more a student ambiance for me. The service is friendly, but we had to wait and ask things several times, as it's a different person greeting and seating, another one for drinks, and again different for the food. What a disappointing experience! We arrived for Sunday lunch at 1:30 and were super hungry, so we ordered our drinks & burgers and asked for a plate of nachos to pick at while we waited for our meal to arrive. 5 minutes later, our nachos arrived and the disappointment started! Melted cheese and sour cream, guacamole and salsa seemed to have been on those nachos for quite some time before they made it to our table. As a result, our chips were super soggy and not very pleasant to eat. As you can imagine, by now, we were waiting impatiently for our fresh burgers to arrive. At 2:05 we still had no burgers in front of us, which, to me, is insane! I have never waited SO LONG for a burger anywhere in my life. It's fast food, guys, no matter how chic and fresh you claim they are it's just ridiculous to wait that long. We called our waiter to ask them when our food would be coming, because, by then, all the tables that had arrived way after us already had food at their table. We were told that it was normal and the restaurants policy that if we had ordered a STARTER our burgers would come later (I mean, nachos to share between three people??? that does not qualify as a starter. Or if it does, I've obviously been making way too many efforts for my guests when they come over). Our burgers finally arrived at 2:15, after a 45min wait. And my oh my, what a bad burger. Looking at the menu I already thought they were super over-priced compared to other burger places in Brussels, and therefore was expecting the holy graal of burgers. BUT NO. I asked for my burger to be "rare" and it came RAW (I'm not even kidding, I think it might have cooked for 30 seconds before it was put on my plate) and COLD. The fries were soggy and tasted like they had been fried over and over again. The bun was burnt. At this point, I would have loved to send my burger back but did not have another 45min to spare waiting for my food to be cooked a second time. So, I had 5 bites and gave up. When the waitress came back we asked to talk to the manager who listened to us but clearly made us understand that she was right, we were wrong, and there was nothing else to add to it. When leaving, our waitress yelled at us "WELL GUYS NEXT TIME JUST GO TO MACDONALDS!". How kind. How professional. read more

Last week we went to L'amour Fou, a cafe-restaurant I used to like to celebrte the birthday of a good friend. All happened smoothly except by a detail that honestly I need to share. We brought a cake to sing the happy birthday song, we asked for some plates and after spending 4 hours in the restaurant (having cocktails, starters and main dish) asked for the check, for our surprise they charged us for every plate that we used to eat our cake. 2 Euros each plate. Service and experience varies greatly depending on which waiter/waitresses you get. The service staff vary from excellent (among the best I've ever had) to utterly incompetent, and mediocre (i.e. among the worst waiters I have ever experienced). Unfortunately, we seem to get the worst waiters whenever we bring a group of friends here, so we've stopped coming here with our friends. We still come as a family though! read more
