The whole place seems like it comes from a sitcom in your youth--including the prices. We're talking $3 for a Genny light draft, $4 for 12 horse, $5 for a Rohrbach pale ale, $9 for a hamburger. You get the idea (prices are from January 2025). Bring a book or bring a friend. Or several friends. All of the menu items are passable, but the wings are good. The wings are so good. Went to L&M lanes to have a going away party for one of my friends. It was super casual so we thought bowling would be fun. The bowling alley was pretty empty for a Friday night which was a little concerning but thought nothing of it at first. However the problems started once the bowling started. I'm fine with older lanes and they can be fun but the lanes just kept having problems of not returning balls, counting/not counting pins as gone, the balls were cracked etc. we played for two hours and felt like half of the time was just fixing the lane. Luckily my crew was pretty chill and didn't really care about the game we were there to hang out. So if you actually want to bowl probably not the best spot for you. Great Fun Was Had! My sister came up from Nashville with my 2 teenaged nephews. Since they don't often get chicken wings in Nashville, I decided to bring them here for my favorite wings & bowling, where I've had many a Birthday Bowling Party over the years. The wings were outstanding as usual --- I tell everybody I know that these are the BEST WINGS IN TOWN --- and I almost ate the entire basket of Deep-Fried Tater Tots myself: they're that good as well! My only wish would be that the bowling lanes downstairs have automatic scoring" as well as the upstairs lanes, because even after 65 years I'm an idiot and I still can't do the "manual" bowling score thing... :-) read more

This is a tiny, cute bowling alley! After moving to Rochester, I feel like Radio Social was the place that was pushed as "the bowling place". We found this spot on a weekday evening. We called and were able to walk in and rent a lane. Prices are so reasonable here and there is a Happy Hour too with GREAT deals! Free shoes included in the rental. Everyone is very nice here. I will say, it is a TINY place so may fill up fast (only a few lanes available). There is street parking available. It checks all the boxes here and is a great casual place to go. I used to love coming here for their wings. They make amazing drinks as well. What turned me off from this establishment was one of the bartenders refusing me service. He claimed that he couldn't accept my ID because it's an under 21 ID and NY state liquor authority doesn't allow him to accept that. I believe that only applies to NYS licenses (because they're no longer valid 90 days after someone turns 21), and I have a Georgia license, which doesn't expire until 2024; therefore, I have no plans of getting a new license until then. My license clearly states my DOB and anyone born in the 20th century is old enough to drink alcohol now. If you're just looking for wings, they do a good job for Rochester wings, but there are definitely better places to go. read more

The chicken wings totally lived up to the hype! We had a nice little date night here and were happy to discover a pint special on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was great to have a little bowling date without the crowds and high prices of so many bigger places. We really like this place. You'd never expect a bowling alley in a local bar like this, but it's perfect. You'll find lanes upstairs and downstairs, and a jukebox. The lanes are old, so you might wind up with a few extra pints on the board when the cameras shift; but it keeps things fun and unpredictable. I must say I'm surprised to see so many 4- and 5-star reviews after my first visit last night. Maybe my experience was out of the ordinary, but I can't imagine drastically changing my opinion if I were to return. Here's why. We arrived at 9:30 to meet up with friends. We started out as a group of six and requested 1-2 lanes, but then became nine and confirmed we would need two. He quoted us two lanes by 10:10. We didn't begin bowling until after 10:30. They only had the six downstairs lane open that night. Only after did I learn there are more lanes upstairs, but I guess they weren't using those. I would think those should be open on a Saturday night. My friends ordered beer, and while their selection looked good, I had come from a tasting at the Genesee Brew House and needed some food. The bartender (I think he may be the owner) convinced me to get the jack bites, their take on a mozzarella stick. A few minutes later he sat my dish on the bar and walked away. I showed it to my friends and they all laughed. The red plastic basket contained five two-inch fried "cheese turds" as my friend named them. We calculated that each bite cost $.50. Needless to say I was unimpressed. More of our group arrived and the same bartender convinced my friend to order the tater tot grilled cheese and add bacon. While it sounds like a good idea, and my friend did enjoy it, I thought it looked unappetizing. White bread, cheap cheese, tater tots, and a small piece of some sort of canadian bacon. I was willing to give the food one more try and ordered the tater tots. These were inconsistent. Some were hot and crispy, but several were mushy or cold in the center. Didn't hold a candle to Acme tots. I'm not a fan of wings but I guess that's what they're known for. Maybe I should have gone with those. Some of my friends did and seemed to enjoy them. Just doesn't seem like the best bowling food (I'm *not* licking my fingers while bowling, that's for sure). Besides the jack bites ($4.95) everything was really cheap. Shoes for $2.50, games for $3, tater tots were $2.50. I think the beer was cheap too. Also someone already noted this but the bathroom needs an upgrade. No lock on the door or the stall, just a magnet. I could hear men talking right outside the door, so it did not feel very private. I had a great time while we were actually bowling. We ended up with two lanes and had a lot of fun. I think I would have had a better time if we could have just bowled right away and not gotten any food. I attended my first Yelp event Thursday night here at L& M. Many thanks to Breanna for hosting. It was a great location, and a lot of fun! I haven't been to L& M Lanes in years. Back in the day when I actually could bowl (10+ years ago) I came here, but I don't remember much. It was like coming to a place for the first time all over again. I arrived a bit early, came in and sat down near the lanes, just trying to scope things out for a bit. 6 lanes downstairs, people having a lot of fun bowling, and the smell of pizza and wings filled the place. It smelled really good! Another yelper arrived, and I saw him head upstairs, so I followed! I forgot that there were another 6 lanes upstairs! And of course, I was completely oblivious to the fact that I had walked past a set of stairs. Yeah, I'm WAY observant. The music was on and off again. You'd be jamming to some really great tunes, and then all of a sudden - silence. And it was that awkward silence. But then they came back on and life was good again! The shoes I rented were newer. YAY! The food others ordered smelled delish. YAY! I tasted a tator tot and it was great. YAY! I was actually not eating or drinking that night because I had other plans, and an early morning the next day. BUT, everyone seemed right pleased with the selection. And maybe best of all - the PRICE. $2.50 for a game of bowling. SO CHEAP! That's awesome! I would definitely come back to bowl - maybe not let it go 10 years until the next time I bowl. Oh, and one final warning if you have a 10lb or smaller bowling ball, be prepared for it to float around in the back of the lane for a while (at least for lanes 7 & 8). I sure do love this place. I'm a terrible bowler though, but for some reason I really enjoy it as an activity. Maybe it's the addition of beer and bar food that makes it worthwhile. L&M Lanes has a cool thing going on with their space. Local bar meets bowling alley meets fried food grub house. My first visit was to enjoy drinks & food. I'd say they have a solid selection on tap. I'm always happy to see some familiar craft brewery names like Brooklyn, Lagunitas, Troegs, etc. And a decent price - for reals, ya'll. I believe I paid $3 for a pint of Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout - Thursday happy hour deal perhaps or just L&M being awesome. Food picks: What a hearty burger. This beast is not your typical "bar" flat patty - big, meaty 8 oz. deliciousness on a roll w/ lettuce, tomato and onion. I paired it with tots. I love them. Toss with a little salt and you're good to go. I also enjoyed a Grilled Tot and Cheese on another visit. COME ON! It's genius. It's like a kid's menu item. Buttery toasted bread goodness along squishing tators & american cheese. I dipped mine in ketchup. Word on the street is that they have killer wings too. I will give those a try next visit. As for the bowling, it's $2.50 per person per game - it's a deal and a steal! I recommend making a reservation. They have 12 lanes: 6 upstairs, 6 downstairs. As I disgraced myself with my gutter ball technique, my bowling ball got stuck on a few occasions on a continuous loop not able to make it on the return belt. James M. and I were bored and hungry last night, so we decided to go on a "wing crawl" (similar to a bar crawl) in which we visited a bunch of places known for their chicken wings with the intent of choosing a winner at the end of the night. We only went to three places, due to time constraints and stomach capacity, but I feel like our selections represented a good cross section of Rochester area wing joints. Though not as qualified or thorough as the guys from www.chickenwinghunt.com, as Yelpers and native Western New Yorkers, we like to think we know a thing or two about chicken wings. L & M was our first stop. I don't think a lot of people know about this tiny bar / bowling alley, and I only discovered it after someone on Rocwiki commented that L&M beat Jeremiah's on chickenwinghunt.com (actually won judges vote, but lost the public vote), but we were able to add it to the itinerary after realizing how far we would have to drive to get to MacGregor's. We arrived around 7pm and grabbed a spot at the bar, which was about three-quarters full. The bartender, a gruff yet charming older woman, approached us immediately and asked us what we wanted to drink. I ordered a Honkers Ale (Goose Island Beer Company) and perused the laminated computer printout menu with James. The atmosphere was far from intimidating and we both commented later in the night that we felt exceptionally comfortable and welcomed at this establishment. Unlike a lot of places making wings these days, L & M didn't have a lot of crazy flavors. Typical mild, medium, and hot, plus Country Sweet, and a very hot option (I forget what it was called). We got a dozen hot. Our basket of wings came out in a relatively short amount of time and we dug in. The sauce was fantastic. Tangy without being overly vinegary and just enough heat to linger on the lips and make you want to drink some more beer. I liked the sauce so much that I even dipped the celery in it after we finished the wings, which I never do because I think celery is one of the most pointless foods known to man. The skin on the wings was crisp, but not perfect. They started getting soggy by about my fourth wing and the last one was fairly saturated. Nevertheless, we agreed that L & M makes a really, really solid wing. Bonus points for the option of bowling a couple rounds afterward to burn off a few calories (or to make some room for another order of wings). L&M Lanes is probably one of Rochester's best kept secrets as far as neighborhood bars go. However, if you want a fun evening enjoying great wings and an assortment of cold beers (and maybe even bowl a few frames), then make the trek up to the Merchants-Culver neighborhood! Walking into L&M Lanes, you immediately enter the bar area, complete with electronic darts machine. There are a few booths opposite the bar for you and your friends to settle into, otherwise belly up to the bar for great service from friendly bartenders. There are always a number of great domestic and craft beers on tap, and many more bottles available. The selection is constantly changing, and don't be afraid to ask for a suggestion from one of the bartenders. I'm a big fan of the wings (which are available dressed in Buffalo Garlic, medium, hot, BBQ, Country Sweet, hot sweetie, and Buffalo garlic sweetie sauces). I usually take my wings medium or mild. Wings and other fried appetizers are very popular here, so you may have a little bit of a wait. They also offer burgers, pizza, and "Gutter Plates" (their own take on Rochester's famous Garbage Plate). There's also six lanes downstairs and six lanes upstairs if you and your friends want to go bowling. Another nice thing is that owner Gary is usually at the bar most nights, sometimes slinging beers or signing up new bowlers. Gary and his family have worked hard to maintain the traditions of this old neighborhood hangout while adding a few of their own since they purchased it from the previous owners in 2011. So I went on a date here with one of my co-workers her names Janice, she works in accounting. I arrived early because I was nervous about meeting her. Well anyways I must have been sweating really bad or something because when she finally did show up and we go to get our bowling shoes my socks wear soaking wet and they really stunk. The guy at the counter offered to let me use the spray deodorant on my feet but it was too late Janice was really disgusted by me, nothing ever goes right for me. So anyways we get to picking out the balls and I can't find one that fits my fingers, I'm not a very big guy I'm about 5"7 but I have very thick fingers. I was getting more and more nervous because I really like Janice and I'm not doing a very good job at rolling the ball and I'm getting more sweaty. So Janice beats me on both games because I couldn't finger the ball right. Anyways I ask Janice as we were taking our shoes back if she wanted to come over to my place? I had just bought the third season of csi: Miami and said we could watch it together. Janice told me she had a nice time but said we should just be friends. That really hurt because if been trying to find someone new since my ex wife left me. So anyways we shake hands out In The parking lot and she tells me that she'll see me on Monday at the office. Now it is a delightfully antiquated bowling alley that kind of feels like hanging out at your grandparents', if they had craft beers on tap. The lanes are...craggy - the original 1950s wood - which lends enjoyable unpredictability to the game. It's more cozy than the national chains, and a perfect place for Sunday funday. L&M is, hands-down, my absolute favorite place to spend a weekend night. Part bowling alley, part dive bar, all good fun. Let's be honest: bars can be boring. I mean, sometimes you just gotta move. And for those of us with two left feet, clubs aren't much better. Which is why I love L&M. There are no pro bowlers and no hordes of teenagers, just a great atmosphere and ridiculously low prices. We almost always have to wait for an alley to free up, but we never mind -- we just grab a booth and some beers. If we're hungry, they've got great munchies. The downstairs alleys are closer to the bar, but the upstairs ones are a little more private; you can't go wrong either way. There are only two downsides: (1) the bathroom could use a little work, though it's always been clean enough, and (2) they replaced the amazing old school jukebox that took quarters and only had music from the 60s through 80s with a stupid modern electronic jukebox that has a poor selection of crappy modern songs -- and they didn't even offer to sell me the old one! But usually the crowd has a good level of respect for the type of music that should be played at a bowling alley bar, so it's all good even if I can't listen to every Queen album all the way through for $9 anymore. There's a small parking lot you can use after the laundromat closes, and side street parking is abundant if that's closed. read more

L&M lanes is by far the best kept secret in the area. There is not a single thing I would change about the bowling alley. The owner is a great guy, who shows his appreciation for his customers. The staff members are always pleasant , personable , and will bend over backwards to ensure all customers are satisfied, no matter how busy it may be that day. Although it is a bowling alley, customers have the privilege to have multiple TV's that have various sports on. The good is among the best in the area with the best wings hands down. The selection of craft and domestic beers among the 16 taps with the variety of 30+ bottled beers to choose from makes it that much better. L&M attracts a respectable crowd with little to no problems with customers when I have been there, much different then the establishments next door. I recommend trying this at least once, because one time is all it will take to be hooked. I will return multiple times weekly due to the warm and welcoming feeling the owner and staff give off. I spread the word to everyone when they look for a place to take a date or a place to hang out and have a drink... It's truly the best of both worlds. Went here with a big group of people on a Friday night. They don't take reservations, so they encouraged us to arrive around 8p. Worked out well because the place filled up quickly right after we got there. Parking was tight and we ended parking on the street, so I imagine it gets tougher the later you get there. Had some great tater tots and assorted finger foods. Beers were cheap, yet still tasted like beer. The bartender was cool and the service was great. If you're a real bowler, it's probably not the place to go. The lanes are in rough shape and weren't oiled properly. But if you're just looking for a fun night out with friends, put this on your radar. read more

If I had to choose a dish to stay with, it would be the hot wings, but I have a weakness for that to begin with. Pizza was dry. Cheeseburger was basically cheese, a thin meat, and bread. Lots of old fashioned fun here! First off, we alll love the dorky fun of bowling, but the big places are so pricey for what you get. I mean, smelly shoes that you have to pay to wear? BUT at L&M you pay per hour per lane, shoes included and doesn't matter how many people play on the lane. If you're a professional bowler, this isn't the place for you. The wooden lane floors are probably original and seem a bit warped in places resulting in sometimes goofy hooks of the roll. Personally, I love the plethora of garage sale bowling balls up for use. My favorite swirly blue ball has the name Shadow engraved on it. Shadow brings me good bowling fortune rolling pretty solid over those floors. There is also a full bar and bar menu sporting all the fried foods you can think up. Wings are really good and the beer list is surprisingly great for a bowling ally bar. Came in over the holidays to bowl with my sis-in-law's fiance's family. HORRIBLE customer service. Bartender was beyond rude from beginning to end. He acted very indifferent to helping/serving us. Our computerized score card kept messing up and was an overall pain to deal with. After waiting several minutes after our first request to the bartender to help fix it, a member of our party went up to him again and very nicely asked him to help us out. He loudly berated him in front of everyone and was just an overall jerk and said that he had other customers to deal with (it was not busy at all, mind you). It really killed the mood and we felt uncomfortable being there for the rest of the time. Apparently, this type of behavior is normal for the staff there due to a number of Rochester natives informing us of their less than stellar customer service. The bartenders/staff better change their attitudes and learn to respect their customers or they will soon be out of business. read more

Wow, I left completely baffled at the treatment my husband and I received at this place. I guess I will start from the beginning. My husband and I went to L & M lanes on Saturday 2/23/2013 (To watch the Syracuse Game) this was our second time there. The first time we went (On Thursday 2/21/2013) we met the owner, he was a great guy. We really enjoy good our beers and he talked to us about how he wanted to add more taps, and even let us taste a few. He seemed like a great guy. We also ordered the Veggie Burger, and an order of fries (and the food was pretty good too). We enjoyed our time there so much that we decided we wanted to go back- as we live right in the neighborhood on Culver Rd. -Second time back was the most horifify experience that I have ever encountered IN MY LIFE. I almost felt like I wasn't safe at some points. First when we walked in a heavy set man at the bar with red hair was watching TV (The pre season red sox game) on the larger TV closest to the door. We asked him if he could turn the TV to the Syracuse game, as it was starting when we walked in. This is where the whole evening started to go down hill... He said or should I say mumbled "Ughh we only have the Syracuse game on the other TV down there at the other end of the bar, this one is for Baseball and I have been watching the game" We asked "Do you think we can watch it on this TV as its larger?" He said "Ughhh fine, I guess so." WOW I have never been to a restaurant where the guy behind the bar was more concerned with his TV show then the customers. He was almost pouting. BUT IT GETS WORSE... After deciding to stay after this awkward/unwelcoming moment, we ordered two beers ( Captain Lawrence IPA) The beers a couple days before the owner let us try. -Then as we sat there, there was another heavy set guy sitting at the bar who claimed to be an owner... The two of them were talking about having to pepper spray someone the other night (Very odd) **** But...We ordered another round of beer, after we got the bar tenders attention from the other end of the bar (where he was glued on the TV-with his baseball game) and asked the bartender(With red hair) if he could turn the volume up on the TV so we could hear the game, He said in an annoyed tone " No its a copy right infringement and I'm not turning it on besides were going to listen to the juke box" He then preceded to use his phone to play rap music (Isn't that a copy right infringement?) and the heavy man who claimed to be an owner said "Hey I thought we couldn't play music on our phones, only the jut box) and the guy behind the bar said "Yeah only I can play music on my phone" **I won't even mention how the music he was playing was offensive rap music** At this point we were just trying to drink our beers as fast as possible to get out of there- (While this was all happening my husband and I were talking at the bar about how we couldn't believe how bad the service is) - So the heavy guy sitting at the bar then yelled over to us (out of nowhere and very random) He said "I have been listening to you two the whole time complain" That's when we asked if he was an owner and he said "Yes" and then preceded to say "But I'm not behind the bar today so I don't care what goes on here"... We said to him, "This is the worst experience ever and we want to leave" He said "I don't care, and leave, it doesn't matter to me" Now we really wanted to get out of there- These were large men and they were starting to intimidate us- So we asked for our card back, and the guy behind the bar ignored us, and wouldn't give it back until my husband said he was going to call 911 if they didn't give us our card back... Finally he did, and we left in awwwwww. We went to Tap and Mallet after and WILL NEVER RETURN, AND WE WILL MAKE SURE WE TELL EVERYONE ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE. We had an outstanding experience at L&M Lanes. We called ahead and learned we could get a lane quickly so we headed over and had a beer while waiting for our friends. Our bowling experience was great. There are 6 lanes per floor so it's not overly crowded. After our games my friend had wings and said they were really tasty and crispy. The draft beer selection is awesome and there is a lot of domestic bottles. We had a great night at L&M, I highly recommend it! read more

Cute small alley with friendly staff and great pizza, wings, and beer ! My only "complaint" is that they didn't have one of those ball ramps for kids to push down but I'm assuming they don't get a ton of small kids who need it . We will definitely be back! read more

Everyone who works here is a completely horrible. The customer service is absolutely terrible. They have no clue how to deal with customers. I may drop off a book to these ignorant, inconsiderate, sorry excuses, but I doubt reading it would be considered. I would stay away, the good space isn't worth dealing with them. read more

I just ordered wings and I have been coming here for years. Great wings normally and when I ordered 18 hot wings today they made them so hot that I couldn't even eat them. When I called about it they told me that they added ghost peppers which they normally don't do. So I told them I just wasted 18 wings and what they would do about this and they told me nothing. It was my own fault for ordering wings hot. I will never go back again and will be telling everyone never to go back again. read more

So this was my second time here in about 15yrs. The owner was looking at a computer screen and pretty much ignoring me standing there so I tapped him on the arm and asked him about this infamous grilled cheese sandwich. He was clearly unimpressed by me and basically rude. Not really the approach you should have being the owner and all. I'm going to take the kids here and see how the bowling is once. I give two chances and then dismiss you. Hopefully the employees will be in better moods? read more

Awesome place the best wings in Rochester. I love this bar! Staff is always friendly.

If this joint had better bowling then it'd be a solid 5 stars. Everything else is good though. Beer, wings and just an overall good spot to hang. But if you're a serious bowler with any skill then you'll hate these lanes. Doesn't even seem like they oil them, ever. Staff is friendly enough anyway. read more

First time at this place & I'm disgusted! From the moment we walked it the guy working was very rude! It was about 6 of us between the age of 24 to 30 & the people I was with come all the time we were the only ones in the place we played some music & we're having fun & each of us had to do a dance move after each frame the guy came over & told us we were being inappropriate & would have to leave if it happened again! A family came in we changed the music & he still gave us an issue the whole time! NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!!! read more

Experience was bad. After many co workers of mine had said this place was cool we decided to go by after work and bowl and have some fun but we didnt. First we walk in the door and go sign up to bowl and the guy asks for everyone's ID so it turns out one of my friends has an expired ID well he says that he has to leave even though he is totally 40 and looks it too. He is not trying to buy beer just bowl and they kick him out. Then we were watching the basketball game in the front and another friend of mine goes and asks the guy if he could turn it on the TV next to the bowling lanes the guy says we don't play basketball here that was on by complete accident. So between them both we will not be coming back here and I won't recommend this to anyone plus the chicken fingers look like they had been fried in oil that was two weeks oil black chicken fingers awesome. read more
