This place is pretty decent for food. The saltimbocca was excellent with the soft prosciutto and veal cooked with it. While theu ran out of the abbachio Alla Romana, we had the costelleto which was breaded and fried that was good. The steak was ok and the oxtail in tomato soup, coda alla vaccinara was very soft and tender. The Jewish artichokes were decent and fried and salted. The staff was very attentive and nice. The service was good and the decor was like an old italain wooden diner style type place. There can be a very long wait for peak eating times. read more

This restaurant is located near the Trevi Fountain and was recommended to me so I had dinner there. It's a casual no reservation type of restaurant with no outside seating. Inside it's loud and busy and obviously popular. I started with a serving of bruschetta pomodoro for €2 and added fettuccine bolognese for €10 and a mug of Peroni beer which is a local specialty. The grilled bread with tomatoes on it arrived first and I wish I had ordered another one. Those tomatoes were very good tasting and fresh. The pasta and meat sauce followed and while it was good tasting the pasta was not up to the level of other pastas that I had on this trip. The table service was fast and friendly. I didn't expect a fine dining meal here and the entree was acceptable but this meal was a 3 instead of a 4. I do think this is a good and inexpensive place to eat. I would return. read more

This wasn't my first choice for dinner after some recommendations fell through. That's a bummer because this fabulous restaurant should have been on that list. It's not fancy but it's fabulous and it's inexpensive. Warmly welcomed and immediately brought to a table despite my lack of reservation (it's January, definitely not tourist season) where a waiter took my drink order. When he returned with my "grande Peroni" that was a full liter of beer, I ordered dinner. Bruschetta to start was a nice portion of flavorful tomatoes on charred crunchy bread. Yummy but not enough to share. Main course, I opted for the fettucine cacio e pepe. A nice big portion and it was perfect. The pasta was al denta and the sauce was exactly what it's supposed to be - cheese and peppery. So delicious. I wasn't going to get dessert but the neighboring table had a tiramisu and suddenly I had no choice. It was AWESOME. All of that - the large beer was €11! - including the appetizer, main course and dessert was only €26. Yummy full dinner in the touristy district for that low price? Amazing. This is one of the restaurants that I wish we could have visited again for another meal. I got some meat dish which was great, the meat was kind of not seasoned which is fine, but the fries that came with it were excellent. My friends got a salad and the lasagna which was massive. I would come back for the lasagna only. I contemplated getting another one because I wanted it so bad, and honestly, it's my biggest regret. The wait staff were a bit rude and had a loud argument with one another while one was behind the bar we were sitting and and two were standing behind us, so we were literally stuck in the middle. The main seating area is reserved for people ordering food so if you come for a drink, you'll be sitting at the small bar area squished up and amidst unfriendly staff. So after a long tour at the colosseum, our tour guide recommended this place for lunch. We didn't have reservations for our large group of 10 and despite being super busy they were quick to seat us. Our server was amazing and recommended some really great dishes. The cheesy stuffed squash blossoms were absolutely amazing. But the star of the show was really their tiramisu. Out of the 11 slices of tiramisu I had during my three weeks traveling Italy, this was by far the best. The cream was smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The lady fingers were soaked perfectly half way through with high quality espresso and the alcohol flavor was just right. I give it a 9.75/10 because I still hold out hope for the perfect slice but I highly highly recommend trying a slice/bowl. Its really the best in Italy!!! read more

The setting is nice, the food is just ok and the service is not very good. We sat down for dinner when the restaurant was mostly empty and the waiters were setting up tables and organizing supplies while chatting with each other. They completely ignored us while we waited patiently for one of them to bring us the menus. We finally called one waiter over after waiting for a very long time since we were not in a hurry after realizing we'd probably never get served. On his way to my table, the waiter and an entourage of other staff cheered as he placed in front of me the plate: a sausage, upright to resemble an erect penis, COMPLETE WITH WHITE SAUCE ON THE TIP TO RESEMBLE EJACULATE AND TWO SMALLER PIECES TO RESEMBLE TESTICLES. Laughing outloud, he told me to lick it and suck it--as my wife and thirteen year old daughter AND A FOUR AND FIVE YEAR OLD AT THE TABLE IN FRONT OF US LOOKED ON. (I couldn't make this up if I could.) Naturally I was irate and told him to take it away, which he initially refused, but he then complied after realizing I was about to shove it down his throat. He aplogized profusely but then the damage was done. They offered absolutely no consolation. Now, I can take a joke but--come on! My wife and daughter and several other little ones were present. My kid even lost her appetite! If my wife and I had been there with other adult friends and no children were present, perhaps I would have slid the plate over to my lovely wife and helped her give the place a light-hearted show at our expense. If you're looking for the best pasta, look no further. This was a recommendation by our fellow foodie tour guide & we liked this place so much that we came back twice! The two pastas that you need to order are the amatriciana pasta & the cabonara pasta. Both were made to order & really fresh. It was definitely a lot of carbs for someone small like me, haha. The carbonara isn't that fake stuff you get at Olive Garden, this is the real deal y'all! To quench your thirst, they also have one of the best beers on tap: the gran riserva. It doesn't taste strong, but the more you drink, the more you feel it. However, that didn't stop me from having a whole pint of it on both visits. It was darn good & I definitely haven't a beer to replace it in the states :( You pay at the counter on your way out. Easy peesy. My friend who lives in Italy brought us here for dinner. He frequents here often and told us the food was delicious (He wasn't lying). Since he knew the staff he did all the ordering for us. The House red wine was absolutely delicious, light and sweet. For antipasto we had a selection of cured meats and cheeses. Very tasty especially the Fontina cheese. The meats were just as you expected.... simple and delicious. We also had the fried olive croquettes which were amazing. I had never had a fried olive before and it didn't disappoint. For the Primi course we had Spaghetti Alla Carbonara. OMG it was absolutely amazing. Unbelievable chunks of crispy bacon mixed in the pasta with egg yolk batter. So much better than it sounds on paper. For the secondi we had the lamb chops. It was a typical platter (4 medium size chops) absolutely bursting with flavor, tender, and seasoned just right. We devoured them and left nothing but the bone. Overall I had a great experience here. I enjoyed all the food. It was a simple meal but the tastes were complex and satisfied my palet. I came here since I saw the good reviews and the restaurant had an extensive menu. The place is nicely decorated, but may be a little cramped with the way the tables are arranged. The main issue with this place is the service. After my party of two were seated and handed menus, we waited 15 minutes without being asked what we wanted to drink or eat for appetizers. Meanwhile, the party of seven that came after us was being served drinks and their appetizers. After the first five minutes of waiting, my partner looked at our server in the eye as he quickly went to the party of seven. It was obvious we were ready as we were no longer looking at our menus. The restaurant was not even busy as hardly any tables were occupied. So, there was no excuse for this terrible service. While on my first Euro trip, Rome, Italy was stop #2. Being in Rome is one thing, but walking the streets immersing yourself into the culture is like nothing else in this world. From our hotel this place was quite a hike, but once we got there, it was like we stepped into another world. The restaurant has been around since 1906 and was completely slammed. We were surrounded by locals and tourists alike, but it was so much fun just people watching and seeing people really enjoy their food. While we waited to be seated, we enjoyed an ice cold Peroni beer from a tap located near the hosting area. Once inside the main dining area, we were seated in a small two-seater table sandwiched in between 2 other tables to the right and left of us. Normally, I would want more space and a bit more privacy, but I'm so glad I didn't. My wife and I stared at the menu and must have looked a bit overwhelmed. A nice Italian gentlemen next to us gave us some advice and told us how real Italians eat and boy can they eat! We had a great conversation with a complete stranger, but this is what made this place so special and something we will never forget. This place was suggested by our tour guide after our Colosseum tour. It is within easy walking distance of the Forum so we decided to give it a try and so glad we did. We arrived before 8pm as we were told it would be completely full by then. It seems to be more of a neighborhood eatery, and there was even a bride and groom dinner party. The atmosphere was very festive and the food was excellent. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it certainly was the best I had tried during my visit.
