Did this restaurant relocate? It was on the next street north parallel to rue de Chabrol-which is rue des Petits Hotels but when I went to that location last year I found it was no longer a restaurant, although the signage was still there. A family was living inside what had been L'Enchotte on rue des Petits Hotels-they had their small television on the bar. If the business moved to rue Chabrol i am thrilled and will go back on my next trip to Paris. I dined at L'Enchotte twice for dinner-May 2006 and March 2007 and had excellent experiences. They cater to locals and did not seem to have menus in English. A dictionary is a big help but certain named dishes will not be in a dictionary-Iles Flotantes for example-Floating Islands-it is custard sauce with soft egg white meringues floating a top-a standard dictionary which does not have culinary translations won't help you understand what this item is.
All that aside-excellent sud-ouest cuisine, 3 course was 15.50euro when I went, no doubt more now.
The owner/hostess seems a bit grumpy and smileless but she runs an efficient and high quality/great value little place. My friend who lives near by commented that the cheese platter, the alternate option to a sweet dessert, was removed rather quickly after being presented when he first patronized the place but once the owner got to regard him as a regular, she would leave the platter so he could linger and keep eating. I felt this was a mistake as he LOVES cheese and leaving it too long on a prix fixe of 15.50 he could bankrupt the place!
Can't wait to try the new location-I was so sad when I found the original location closed and assumed L'Enchotte was a lost gem. read more
