Hotel is tired needs work! The entrance from the street is filthy. Awnings are beyond dirty: they need to be replaced! Carpet on stairs to entry doors is very dirty. The interior is tired and faded. Our "Executive Suite" was large but also needed updating and the bed was so hard my body felt bruised after spending 2 nights on it! No coffee pods for the Nespresso maker in the room, no extra towels, and no view. The only redeeming feature was the location. But even that does not justify the hotels lack of care and rates when compared to other properties. read more

The bedroom and sitting room in our king suite were gorgeous, huge, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The lobby had a lot of fun art. The location was ideal: near Notre Dame and several restaurants, pubs, and shops. Water pressure in the shower was great. Though some of the staff seemed a bit inexperienced, they were friendly and helpful. The bathroom needs a lot of attention. The lighting was far too dim; the shower drain is not in the lowest place, so water pools, cools, and stays on the shower floor till the next time its used; there were small drops of what looked like blood on the wall under the sink; there were only two towels and washcloths for a three night stay; the cord on the hair dryer is not long enough for it to be used easily; no vent, so the walls "bled" moisture after the shower was used; and the shower water was either very hot or very cold...difficult to find "just right." The lighting in the entire suite needs to have brighter options. Breakfast was limited to a coffee and two pastries. Five stars for our bedroom and sitting room, three stars for the bathroom. read more

We stayed here about ten years ago, so we decided to stay here again! Some little fixes are definitely needed, like marks on the wall, but it's still charming with an excellent location! It's an easy walk to Place d'Armes metro stop and several attractions. The staff is bilingual, so where my French stopped, they were able to accommodate me in English. I found this hotel to be quite a disappointment. I was in Montreal for a conference. I purposely booked at a local hotel instead of the conference hotel so I could support a local business. It was my first trip away from my three children under 5 in over two years. I was looking forward to SLEEP. As a woman traveling alone I requested an upper floor room just to feel a little safer. I was given a ground floor room. My room faced a gross parking lot alley with dumpsters. This empty lot was a place where people congregated to smoke and shout at one another late into the night. My room, 107, was also across from two lobby bathrooms which were backed up and constantly being plunged throughout my stay. It caused my room to reek of awful bathroom smells. The sheets on my bed had rips in them and the carpet was so stained I never walked around barefoot. I did kneel down to open my suitcase and being that close to the floor smelled awful. Next to my room were two office doors that were constantly open and filled to the brim with rummage and storage. It felt like I was staying in a hoarder's house or rundown complex rather than a nice hotel. My room had 5 visitors, gigantic house millipedes, which I spent my time corralling under cups and mugs. The hotel boasts a free breakfast and workout space. The gym was so dirty and filthy, I did one 20 minute workout and couldn't bring myself to enter that space again. The breakfast was a chocolate or plain croissant and coffee or orange juice. The croissant was the highlight of the stay, but I think a single pastry without protein is hard to justify as "breakfast". The smell of pastries was delightful and would cover the sewage smell of the hotel for a few delightful hours each morning. The hotel was located within walking distance to great destinations. However, other chains and local hotels are all within the block and I wish I had spent my first four nights away from my children in a hotel that was clean, bug-free, didn't reek of sewage, and wasn't connected to a deserted alley. Given that this hotel was comparable in price to others in the area, I made a very poor choice. I wish I could boast about this local business. Instead of getting restful sleep I was kept up through the night from being in a high traffic room (off the main hall, elevator, bathrooms) and of course, the deserted parking lot full of questionable nightlife. I hope this is helpful for you as you make a decision of where to stay. I am heading home, exhausted. I would love to visit Montreal again. I would not stay at L'Hotel Montreal again. read more

Perfect location for walking the downtown! My family and I were visiting only for 1 night, but due to the location made the best of limited time. The hotel is a 2-3 min walk from notre dame and maybe 10 min from more pedestrian / touristy areas walking north. We booked a suite and a regular room. We reserved an Executive Suite with King bed and pull out couch for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children). All 4 family members were listed on the reservation. Upon bed turn down service, we discovered the pull out couch was completely broken and absolutely unusable. At no time we were offered a room upgrade so my family could move to a room to accomodate 4 people. They offered us rooms that were actually smaller than the one we were at. We asked to have the couch replaced and they said it was not possible. They ended up offering us a 3rd room for the evening until the problem was fixed the next day. We had to rearrange the sleeping arrangements so our 2 small children wouldn't sleep alone. The next day, the other 2 rooms they showed us were still not as spacious as our room, and did not have a bath tub. I visited a third room which was "one upgrade" from our Executive Suite, and that room was as big as ours with the samw amount of windows and a bath tub. I said that this room would be perfect. They denied us that room, and said they would instead switch our couch. All of this nonsense for nothing as the couch should have been switched from day one. In addition, the breakfast they offer is the simplest possible, little variety and not worth the money. You're better off going elsewhere like the bakery accross the street for breakfast. read more

I didnt have the greatest experience here, as I hoped I would from reading other reviews. I am not really picky about where I stay nor have I ever felt compelled to write a bad review on one before. With that said, I stayed for two nights and when we entered our room we noticed they did not give us towels, our tv did not turn on and valet took 20 min everytime instead of 10. All these things were overlooked, however our experience got worse. The shower head spewed out cold water when turned hot and therefore I had to wash my head from the baths' tap to only find out that the drainage was clogged before. We were sent help everytime but I hated that I had too as it made me feel like I was nagging because they were not very friendly about it. On a positive note I really did enjoy the high ceilings of our room and the bed was incredibly comfortable! If it wasn't for the bed I would have given this review 1 stars only. read more

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in while traveling. Period. It is the Old Montreal section of town and a short jaunt from all of the museums, great places to eat, and Notre-Dame. I cannot tell you (in words) how beautiful the rooms were. We stayed in one of the bigger rooms and it was likened to Marie Antionette's decor. It had some incredible crown molding, beautiful amenities, and the mattress was like sleeping on clouds. There is a fantastic bar there we went to upon arriving, and when we were done shopping for an afternoon, we had some exceptional coffee and tea at the café. Montreal! Yes! I'd been wanting to come to this city for years and it did not disappoint in the least. I began my adventure in earnest at L'Hotel. Check0in was easy and pleasant; the employees seem to enjoy working here and I can see why. The property mixes pop art with classic, Old World hotel standards. That means good sized rooms with high ceilings and Lichtenstein paintings. Overstuffed chairs and pink penguins. Royal beds (so plush and comfortable) and.. COLOR ME BADD on the PA system! This hotel is, like, 'whoa' and makes no sense and I love it. Every floor and room is adorned in pop art. Take the time to wander the floors (and stairwells) to take it all in. My bathroom was replete with subway tile & a pedestal sink. Plenty of dark wood and large furniture pieces made me feel as though I was in an old European standard but when I walked in the hallway, I could hear ODB rapping about how far he goes back with Mariah Carey. #awesome The hotel is at the edge of the Old Montreal neighborhood, so you're close enough to restaurants, shops and sights but you're not in the thick of things to stay up all night with hootin' and hollerin'... which is a good thing because I found the walls/door to be a wee bit thin (to be expected in an older property). Housekeeping could have bit a bit better, as well. Upon check-in the oh-so-familiar long black witch hair greeted me on the bathroom floor. I threw a floor towel over it, looked for some incense to burn and tried to forget about it. After all, I was in Montreal. I had things to do! read more

Had the pleasure of staying here for two nights during my mini vacation in Montreal. It was a short walk from Montreal's Central Station, and located right near the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica. Really smooth check in and really nice (and super good looking?!) staff here. Décor reminded me of a Hard Rock Café somehow- something about the very big and flashy artwork that you can find all over the hotel. Our spacious room was super comfortable with nice high ceilings. Room came with a Keurig (choice of coffee or English breakfast tea), bathrobes and water bottles. The bed was extremely comfortable too (need to find out what kind of mattress/comforter it was, it was THAT comfortable that I want it for my own apartment!) Very simple and cozy stay- pretty quiet area with lots of shops. read more

Bonjour mes amies! This hotel is perfectly located within walking distance to shopping and is right on the edge of Old Montreal. Parfait for a luxurious night's sleep. Admittedly, we didn't spend much time in the hotel, and the time we did spend here was pretty much drunkenly walking through the lobby and going straight to bed. I do remember that the decor is art-centric, and most of it is pretty lovely. The staff is super friendly and the rooms are huge, colourful and come with everything you could need. I'm a big fan of hotel rooms that aren't trying to be modern-chic and house real wooden furniture, and this place suits my taste juuuust fine. My only complaint is that the elevator is small, old and gave me the willies. read more

Never have I been more enamored with a hotel than this place. I'm a tourist that was looking for, at first, a good hotel that wouldn't break my bank account. I found the best place for $100 USD that is not only cleaner than a $175\nightly hotel in the states, but also doubles as an exquisite art gallery! My room, the "lowest tier", as high ceilings, a slick flat screen TV, and all the amenities you could ever want. The bar, though not the biggest, is ample enough to satiate anyone with a yearning for the hard stuff. I have to put out a word to Corey, the bartender, for making me the perfect Maple Old Fashioned. It's located near a wide array of shops, cafes, and restaurants, and its a walk away from Central Station and Belle Center. If you are a tourist looking for a place to have a good drink and a beautiful, clean room, stay here. read more

We picked this hotel because of its location, and it was a good idea. We were just in Montreal visit and walk around. There are plenty of Montreal hotels that cater to business travelers, and we tried one of them last. Spend the money and get a hotel in a location that's worth walking around in. This is the nice end of old Montreal. The other end is too full of touristy tee-shirt shops and other junk. And Old Montreal is the place to be if you want to explore. The staff at this small hotel were warm and efficient. The desk clerk made a great effort to solve my issue with booking and credit. Gabriel is a good bartender and a nice guy. The desk staff answered all our questions patiently and knowledgeably. Also: this place houses a spectacular collection of modern art. read more

After a long day of exploring a new city it was so nice to come"home" to L'hotel. It was just the right size - so cozy and warm (we were visiting in November). The staff were very friendly. The valet somehow handled all our luggage at once even though one was stuffed with books - very heavy. He must lift weights. We had breakfast there once and it had both eggs and wonderful pastry. The next two days it was closed due to staff illness and we were offered pastries at the bar. I need to start the day with protein so we went to two close places: allo mon coco and eggspectation - both good. This is also very close to the Metro. The only complaint is that the wi-fi was very spotty. There were times when we had to go the lobby to use the wi-fi. The lobby was filled with art and had comfy chairs so it was no real hardship. Most comfortable beds ever, even better than the Westin across the street. And this is a hotel that feels unique, with staff that across the board is young but incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a small staff and everyone seems to do a little bit of everything but you never have to feel guilty about asking for anything or uncomfortable if you're not young & hip enough. Be aware, there doesn't appear to be a full time, dedicated valet or bellman so I did carry my luggage up and down a couple stairs on arrival & departure but that didn't bother me in the least. It's a cool, boutique hotel without the attitude so it you want the W or the Ritz attitude by all means go there but for me LHotel fills a needed market niche and I will absolutely return here on any future vacation to Montreal. Our Queen Suite (room 418) was large and generally nice - not only do the hallways & lobby have expensive, original artwork but so did our room. Room layout could have been a bit better and the idiotic thermostat seemed to be pre-programmed and would go up as high as 28 during the day and as low as 17 at night (both well outside my preferred range) but overall the room was great, the breakfast was good (very European, my wife actually loved it though I'd say it was a bit overpriced for $15 if I hadn't booked a rate with breakfast included), the bar & lobby/lounge area were very welcoming & comfortable, and it was easy walking distance to Old Montreal and the Saint Laurent corridor and even Downtown (plus a Metro station is only a few easy blocks away). Location is good, so I gave two stars. Beyond that, I'm truly disappointed at the hotel after reading so many good reviews. The hotel needs a renovation! Our room's layout is lovely, but the carpet is dirty and has disgusting stains, and the bathroom tiles and paint are almost falling. Floor to ceiling window is great, but there is no views at all. From window, you will look at another concrete building and a parking lot. The reception area looks like bed and breakfast, and the staff was not helpful and welcoming. When we chose which hotel to stay for our four nights Anniversary trip. Since this hotel has such good reviews and I really love the "LOVE" sign, so we decided first two nights to stay at hotel William gray which we paid US$300 per night, and last two nights to stay at L(Iove)Hotel which we paid US$200+ per night. I'm upset. I thought this would be a better experience - I went up to Canada with my boyfriend and decided to spend the last night in Montreal. This hotel seemed perfect; walking distance to multiple things, the fireworks and a pretty fun ambiance. Unfortunately, we did not get $420 (American dollars) worth of accommodations. Let me start off by saying that when we pulled up in the rain, no one was there to greet us or help us bring our bags upstairs... not to mention no ramp so my wheeled heavy suitcase was a struggle. We arrived at 2:45 for our 3:00 check in and they weren't ready - no problem, the lounge was so interesting so we didn't mind waiting in the fun chairs for a little. About 40 minutes went by and still nothing, so we grabbed our stuff and walked up to the front desk to ask what was going on. We explained that we were only here for the night and would like to check into a room so we could see the city and the manager got on the radio to see if the room had gone through inspection. After more waiting, we were issued room cards and given a free breakfast. Nice, we get to go change into non-airplane clothes now and enjoy our trip. Now we're at the room. We decided on a deluxe room because we wanted our last night of vacation to be special. We walk in and notice maybe 50 holes in the wall where paintings should have been. Judging by the halls and lounge filled with incredible artwork this room should have had the same but I guess not. Next we notice that the bathroom's ceilings are practically falling down. lol $420. We were going to say something immediately BUT we decide to leave and get lunch first because we hadn't eaten in a while and didn't want to be hangry while we pointed out the blemishes of this overpriced room. When we asked to speak to the manager, we mentioned all of the flaws and she told us that they were painting soon and the room that she had originally had us in would be better and let us check it out. Still, about 50 holes in the wall and no artwork... but at least the ceiling wouldn't fall down while I brushed my teeth. I am sure this hotel will be gorgeous once everything is done being painted. Unfortunately, I was not the customer who got to enjoy that experience; I got to enjoy holes in my wall for the top dollar price. I wish we had been told about the paintings and given a price cut. This hotel seems like it entices people with its ambiance (hence why we booked there) and to pay that type of money, I would expect it to come through or offer a discount. I would wait to book there until it is over because honestly the deluxe rooms are pretty bleak. read more

Wonderful two-night business stay. Location is central in Old Montreal, so you're walking distance to just about anything and everything you need (case in point - I needed index cards for a presentation I was about to give, and they pointed me in the right direction to a store just three blocks away). Very lovely mix of old architecture with new amenities; my room was extremely nice, and I like the fact that the bed is a bit lower to the floor so it makes the room (which is a good size anyhow) feel even larger. I also appreciated that the A/C was already on when I entered the room; if you've stayed at as many places as I have, you'll know the feeling of the too-hot room that seems to take forever to cool down. Montreal was having some unseasonable warmth after a cool summer, and I was very hot from a sweltering taxi, so that was a nice first impression. The staff, from valets to front desk to dining room team, are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. I had a few small requests that they easily handled, and in general there always seemed to be staff nearby when you needed them. I had a great, informative discussion during breakfast with one staff member who gave me a bit more color on the area (I hadn't seen Montreal in 10 years) and I really appreciated that information. Only possible knock for me was I assumed that the continental breakfast was part of the hotel price, but it wasn't. It's a good continental breakfast, but you can do better for less money close by. I won't ding them, however, since the rest of the stay was so delightful, and I will definitely stay here again when I return. read more

This hotel is outside of Old Town, near Notre Dame. It is old, worn, and is trying to be edgy and eclectic, but it feels fake. When we arrived, there was a very strong odor in the lobby, so we weren't able to spend any time in the bar lobby (which looks much nicer online than in person). We were informed that this was due to water pipe work being done by the city. The staff was very nice and the room was clean and a nice size. Our room was on the first floor and the ceilings were at least 15 feet high. It was priced reasonably. We did not stay for the breakfast. read more

I've always been a low-maintenance hotel guest. I don't need much. Quiet room. Hot water. Comfortable bed. But this place might have ruined me. The next place we stay will inevitably be disappointing compared to LHotel. The reviews on the hotel were excellent, so I anticipated my family having a good experience there, but it far exceeded my expectations. We stayed for three days during the first week of August. The location is perfect if you're in Montreal to enjoy Old Town. After we used the valet service (around $28 USD per day) to park our car, we didn't get in it again until the day we left. We could walk anywhere in Old Town/Old Port from the hotel easily. The room was great. Nearly everyone who reviews this place talks about the high ceilings. I'd love to be a non-conformist here, but the high ceiling really did make the room feel huge. The beds were very comfortable. It was clean. The hallways were quiet. It made for peaceful nights in the room. The staff was extremely accommodating. We arrived a few hours early and they stowed our bags so we could get a jump start on checking out Montreal. We got good recommendations for places to see and restaurants. When we came back a few hours later we were checked in and the bags were delivered to our room. While the kids were winding down at night, I went to the bar for a drink (or two). The service and the conversation from the bartenders were great ways to end a day of touring a beautiful city. I think I've exhausted my supply of superlatives on this place. But it really was one of the best hotel experiences we've had as a family. I can't wait to visit again. read more

My husband, our two twin boys, 11 years old, and myself booked a room with 2 Queen beds. We were excited to stay at the hotel. We looked at the photos of the hotel and thought it would be a fun stay. It was all downhill from there. When we arrived, we were advised that the hotel valet parking could not accommodate an SUV. When we asked what alternatives there were for parking, the staff was most unhelpful and barely offered much assistance. My husband had to drive around for 30 minutes to find an available lot which was outdoors, un-manned, and self parking. It would have been nice if the staff could give parking options so guests didn't have to roam the streets at night clueless as to where to park or where was safe. Once we checked into our room, we were surprised to find the room was not vacuumed. It was clean otherwise, but the rug was stained and dirty. Every day, I spoke to the front desk about vacuuming the carpet. Not one day, did it get vacuumed. How can that even be acceptable? There was tissue paper and debris on the carpet that remained from the minute we arrived until we left. When we booked the room, I advised the staff that we were 4 people requiring four bath towels and face cloths daily for showering. Every day they left two towels. It was annoying to chase housekeeping down to get the requested towels. One day we missed a booked tour because they had no available towels "until later". A small but quite annoying detail was that if you wanted an ice/bucket you had to call and request it from the front desk. That wouldn't be so terrible but two nights it took over 30 minutes to get ice. The other annoying thing was the hotel and staff advised in their write up and at check in that they have a "nightly turn down service". We would be out of our room all day until past 9:30 pm every night. Not one night did they provide such service. I even told the front desk that we were yet to receive the turn down service. Then the last night after 10 pm, housekeeping knocked on our door to offer the service. At that point, I was so annoyed because we were in bed that we refused it. The room had very few outlets. We had to request two powerstrips to charge our iPhones, iPads, etc. The hotel got those two items for us which was much appreciated. The room was spacious and had a larger mini fridge. The bathroom was renovated. As I said before, the carpet had several stains. I'd never go back to this hotel again. The staff was variable in their ability to give useful directions to sights or restaurants we asked about. When I checked out, the staff person asked how our stay was. When I asked her to read the "daily notes" put in about the issues, she apologized. Advised it must have been a staff communication issue and she'd follow up on it which was no help to us at check out. The hotel offered a discount of 20% pm our stay. I found that borderline insulting. It wasn't the money that mattered, it was getting things right or even just getting basic things correct. 20% didn't cover the tour we missed but at that point I just wanted to leave. read more

Fun artwork abounds both inside and outside of the hotel and the blue outdoor lights make it incredibly easy to spot it from a distance (and find your way back if you're a tourist). And its surrounded by great restaurants and cultural attractions. And the room - a steal. We reserved a standard king room but they were overbooked and gave us a king suite for the same price. This place turned out to be a real gem. I found it by accident on google maps and the price was right, the location was good for what we wanted to do, it was close to the metro, all things I figured out from the web page and google. I was surprised it wasn't on Yelp, but I later found out it changed its name a little while back and that could be it. The room we got had a high ceiling, clean and bright room and enough space to move around. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel is filled with contemporary art, including some sculptures out front. But lots of interesting things inside. Even though there was a conference going on and we were near some of the meeting salons it was never load and very relaxing. I would most certainly go back. The price was comparable to the other things in the area but maybe a tad less. Give it a try on your next trip if you need to be by old town but not really in it. Plus, with the metro so close does it really matter? You can get to just about anywhere or close enough with that, which is what we did! read more

My husband and I stayed here in August 2012 for vacation. The hotel is in a great location, right in Old Montreal, which (I think) is the best part of Montreal. It is within walking distance of the Notre Dame Basilica, Old Port, and all of Old Montreal. We were also able to walk to the 2 restaurants we really wanted to try; Garde Manger and Quattro (which were both SO good). The staff is really friendly and very helpful. We were greeted upon arrival with a cold bottle of water and the check-in/check-out processes were very easy. They had lots of great suggestions as to where to go for food and drinks. The room was very clean and the super high ceilings really added to the grand and luxurious feeling of the place. The bath products smell really good! Also, the free Wi-Fi actually is free and works well. The only cons, and this depends on how important these are to you, are: --No breakfast included in the cost of the hotel. Breakfast is $15 per person extra. --No free parking. They have valet for $22 per day. --No pool. --Their fitness area is pretty lame. One treadmill, 2 bikes, one rack of adjustable weights that didn't work properly, and 2 exercise balls. read more

Nice staff, beautiful art and amazing location should make this a strong consideration for any out-of-towners or a couple looking for a staycation. Rooms with high ceilings, super comfy beds made my stay an enjoyable one. I snuck downstairs to have a late night drink at the bar in the lobby (open until 1:00am). There is also a fitness center and indoor pool on the lower level. Hard to believe rooms start at $155 given the location and quality of hotel. read more

Stayed a few nights here in the other day. Overall i was incredibly happy. The room was one of the huge spacious rooms that is advertised on their website and the entire experience couldnt have been smoother. Everyone was incredibly helpful and it just worked out perfectly. the hotel is full of original art from the 20th century and has a lot of character. The fact that it is in the old city and about 5 min from notre dame made it the perfect location for a weekend in Montreal. Arriving in the winter (even though the temperature went up to 70s while i was there) let me take advantage of very low rates. read more

I was in town and didn't want to stay at the main conference hotel. I wanted to stay at a boutique, support the local business and have a more quaint and unique experience. A unique boutique if you will. Enter LHotel. Where have you been all my life? I think I love you. I would give you my next child if you asked for it. When I first arrived I was greeted by and eclectic mix of artwork in the lobby. There was a cute bar and a lot of cool seating areas. Lots of artwork. I went to the front desk and was given my room key. When I arrived at my room it looked like my roommate had already arrived. WAIT. I didn't have a roommate!!?! I went back to the front desk. They apologized profusely and offered me free breakfast for my entire stay. Score for me and score for them. I got to feed myself and they earned points for excellent customer service and taking responsibility for their mistake. The beds were uber comfortable. One of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. I don't think I moved the entire night, I just melted into it. The staff was young, hip, attentive and polite. They had an answer to every question I had. The bar scene in the afternoon and evening is mature and subdued- in a good way. 5-8pm happy hour with $5 beers. Good drink menu. Attentive bartenders and a small menu with some tasty items. They accommodated my request to watch NCAA basketball instead of curling. I felt guilty about it but then didn't when I got to watch my team win whist sucking down a local IPA. The breakfast was self service continental and would give it an A-. It was great. Local bagels and a self service toaster so you could lightly toast or nearly burn it, which is my preference. On my bagel I would put butter and cream cheese AND Lox. Love smoked salmon. Melts in your mouth like butter. Nice cheese platters, yogurt parfaits, deviled eggs, hard boiled eggs. Fresh juice and coffee. Pâté. Really?! Yes. You really can't go wrong with any of it. In summary, I would recommend this hotel without hesitations. read more
