The location in Old Montreal is perfect. Close to the Museum of Archeology, the Underground, the Port d'Montreal and Rue d'Saint Paul. Your French would be useful but everyone is bi-lingual. No pressure. The rooms, we had a King bed double occupancy, which had a wonderful rain shower bath and close (same floor) as the in house Rain Spa. My wife enjoyed her spa visit while I over nourished myself with a (Grand) petit dejeuner. Eggs Benedict done to perfection. Not only would I return, I can't imagine anything better. It combines the charm and character of historic architecture with the amenities of a modern upscale hotel, creating a property that feels far more distinctive than your typical business hotel. It can function as a business hotel (which is what I used it for), but probably excels as a "date night" or vacation hotel. One of the more interesting aspects of the hotel is its layout. The property appears to have been created by combining several historic buildings into a single hotel, which means no two sections feel exactly alike. As a result, navigating from the lobby to your room can initially feel a bit like solving a small puzzle, but it's a tradeoff that creates a number of unique common spaces, including comfortable seating areas, a billiards room, and a complimentary coffee station. The property has personality, and that's something increasingly difficult to find. My room was exceptionally spacious, modern, and tastefully appointed without feeling overly trendy. The bed (medium firm) was very comfortable--not quite top tier, but well above average. Service throughout the hotel was outstanding. The staff was consistently warm, professional, and attentive. During check-in, a staff member personally escorted me nearly all the way to my room to ensure I found it without difficulty. I heard later from colleagues they had a similar experience. While that's a level of attention that's admittedly a bit more than I personally need, it speaks volumes about the hotel's commitment to hospitality. There were only a few minor drawbacks during my stay. Breakfast service at the restaurant was noticeably slower than expected, particularly for business travelers trying to get an early start to the day. Additionally, the elevator serving Tower 4 could be frustratingly slow during busier periods. Pricing leans toward the higher end, but never struck me as unreasonable given the quality of the accommodations, service, and exceptional location. The surrounding neighborhood is also highly walkable, whether you're looking for restaurants in the evening or simply want to get out for a morning walk before starting your day. Insider Tip: If you're heading to Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), plan to leave with more time than you think you'll need. Morning traffic leaving the city builds quickly and can add considerably to your travel time. I'd happily stay here again. Hotel Place d'Armes is a convenient hotel at the start of the old port, across from Norte Dame on St-Jacques, with quick convenient access to the metro at either the Place d'Armes stop or Square Victoria stop. The rooms are spacious, tall ceilings. I've only ever stayed in building 3 for whatever random reason, but it's nice. Exposed brick, giant ceilings, plenty of space, and my rooms have had fireplaces in them. It is in downtown and while you can hear what's happening outside, it's tolerable. The rooftop bar is great, and when that's full or closed, they have an indoor bar on the ground floor. They also have a spa. Recommend staying here when visiting Montreal. read more

We were mistreated by racist staff at Brasserie 701 which is in this hotel. They put us all the way in the back and forgot about us. We had to ask for a server to come take our order. Food didn't come for 40 minutes. In that time, they served me coffee (drip) in a tiny espresso cup. I asked for coffee at least three times. Each time the waiter nodded and then ignored us. Finally, when food came, they didn't bother to give us salt, pepper, ketchup, etc. I gave up after asking several times. I wonder why we received this treatment. read more

This hotel is in a perfect location, and I had a great time staying here. First of all, it's very charming. The room was spacious with plenty of space, a desk, a lounge chair, and even a mini fireplace for vibes under the tv. The bathroom was also nice with a rainfall showerhead and regular shower head. The closet in the room is also spacious enough to share. In addition to being a charming room that was clean and spacious, you really can't beat the location. You're walking distance from the Notre Dame Basilica and plenty of shops and restaurants in Old Montreal. You are also a quick walk to the metro which was perfect for getting around. The hotel is located in a great location. I was in building #4 and the room was modern and newly renovated. They have single use toiletries (you don't see these often anymore) which were Le Labo Santal. The bedding was super comfortable and cozy. And their shower head is so fancy with 6 different jets. My wife, son, and mother in law were set to stay here for the start of a lovely week and a half long trip, but we had to change our plans last minute after a pending death in the family. (My wife's uncle passed the next day after I contacted the hotel and Hotels.com.) Despite every other hotel being accommodating and considerate about it, and after hours of phone calls and emails with Hotels.com attempting to secure a refund, we were left to foot the bill. Apparently the death of an uncle and my mother-in-law's brother isn't enough to warrant canceling a trip for Place d'Armes. One of the best stays we've had a in long time from start to finish, especially for the price (not cheap, but not unreasonable). Service - Fantastic throughout from all the staff we interacted with. The front desk team was outstanding, friendly and professional at all times, and super helpful the couple times we needed things (cabs, recommendations, etc.). The concierge/valet seemed friendly as well, as were the housekeepers. Room - The upgrade to the junior suite was totally worth the money. The room was large enough to really relax in, and the bathroom was outstanding. Best rainfall shower head I've had in years, and the tub was actually deep enough to use (if it's one with jets, know that it's got a LOUD self-cleaning feature that will kick on afterwards, I wouldn't take a soak right before bedtime. Spa - We generally find hotel spa massages to be pretty mediocre, but this one was excellent, and the staff and setup were outstanding! Food - Again, we usually find hotel restaurants mediocre, but Kyo was surprisingly good! Location - On the edge of the old city and right across the square from Notre Dame is a good place to be. Nice to be able to walk around to a lot of restaurants and sights, and Uber made it easy enough to get to the other neighborhoods that we wanted to visit. Although the hotel is absolutely stunning, I didn't like the fact that the check in is located immediately as you walk into the glass double doors. It's quite small so everyone is sandwiched inside with their luggage, with little room to move around. Nevertheless, just steps away from the front door is a beautiful lounge area with complimentary coffee. The front desk clerks were all friendly and professional. Check in was quick. Location of the hotel is prime. In the heart of Old Montreal. It is housed in four stunning 19th-century neoclassical buildings, opposite the breathtaking Notre-Dame Basilica (which unfortunately was closed). The hotel offers a spa, gym, meeting spaces restaurants and rooftop terrace (summer time only) from where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. The rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, fireplace, which keeps the room so warm, nespresso coffee machine, ability to control the temperature in your own room. The bathrooms are gorgeous and extremely large. Shower is huge. There is a magnifying mirror for makeup application. Comfortable beds, robes and slippers, and free WiFi as well as a large desk. Rooms look and feel brand new and modern. Cost us about $210/night which is excellent considering hotels location and beauty. What I didn't like was when we got back from dinner around 9:30, we waited outside for valet. When no one came, I finally went inside to ask for assistance at which time they had to call someone to assist in parking our car. That wasted about 10 minutes of our time. Then when we tried to go up to our room for the night, our keys weren't working. I had to go downstairs multiple times to have them reset the keys. When that didn't work, the front desk clerk came up to let us in and advised us we won't be able to have keys to our room because maintenance needs to fix the door. Unfortunately, maintenance isn't available at night. That wasted another 20 minutes of our time. If we want access to our room, we were advised we would need to call the front desk each time to let us in. That's pretty inconvenient and ridiculous, especially since they seem to only have one front desk clerk on duty. Despite above, I really enjoyed this hotel and must give it 5 stars! I stayed here for four nights and had the best time. The service is impeccable, the space is gorgeous and well-situated in town, the concierge is helpful, etc etc. The hotel staff refresh the room twice daily and give you new nespresso pods and water bottles each time. I felt positively spoiled, especially when I visited the spa and indulged in the steam room. There was no stress or worry when staying here, and despite all of this luxury, I still found the hotel to be around the same price as airbnbs (where you have to take the trash out yourself!) so it's a no-brainer: stay here if you can! read more

My husband accidentally ordered a movie because the remote got stuck and and they refunded it and sent up someone to fix the remote immediately. The room was very spacious. Got a hotel via Expedia that featured upgraded version of two types of suite so when I arrived I was not happy to receive the smaller version. The staff was amazing and they quickly compensated it by giving additional room with no charge. I would say that is a 5 star customer service. The location is fantastic-across from NotreDame and 5 minutes walk to old town. That is 5 star as well. The problem arises with a basic service - hotel ought to provide a rest and that mission hasn't been accomplished. The rooms were large, the mattress was good. The AC is very loud - a bit louder then normal. By far the biggest problem was the single pane historical windows that provide no sound buffer against a night club in the street - about 100' away from my window. There is no way around it - I hear loud music all night long and I hear people having good time while I am not. I hear service pulling chairs as they clean around 3am. The hotel side facing St Jackes Street is unusable. Maybe staff should have the ear plugs for the customers, but that is not cool for an expensive hotel. In summary- awesome place, awesome stuff that misses opportunity to invest in new windows and buffer street sounds. I will not be staying here again because I cannot get rest here but thanks to great hotel stuff. read more

I cant say enough great things about this hotel. In town for a girls getaway we are thoroughly enjoying our stay. The location is ideal for great restaurants, walking old town, and the underground city. The staff is exceptional. Warm, friendly, attentive, and helpful. The concierge, Amanda, went above and beyond to secure our last minute weekend dinner reservations. She even delivered a note and gesture of appreciation to my room. Pure class! We opted for junior suites. Rain shower, soaking tub, electric fireplace, hardwood floors, great windows, and lots of room. Fabulous choice. Modern feel with historic windows and brick walls. We enjoyed our spa treatments and hammam. The only downside was late night street noise from the bar across the street. Given the overall exceptional experience it was minor. I spent Tuesday and last night at Le Place d'Armes Hôtel & Suites in old Montréal. It is located across the street from Notre-Dame Basilica. The king bed was really comfy! The bathroom had a huge walk-in rain shower. The room was large. It had a plush goose down duvet and pillows on the bed, bath amenities, stocked (at a cost) mini-bar, large work desk, armchair, safe, robes, complimentary high-speed WIFI (it was speedy), fireplace and a Nespresso machine. I found the room a bit chilly (though the heat was turned up to 73F) but the duvet kept me warm. It's located in old Montreal so close to lots of restaurants, etc. It's just a short walk to St. Catherine Street W for tons of shopping. read more

Three stars because housekeeping showed up about 8:30 a.m.., then at approximately 10:30 a.m., when I spoke to her and she agreed to be back at 1:00 p.m. giving us enough time to check out; however, a young receptionist called our room at approximately 12:30 p.m. asking when we were leaving, then a few minutes later a young lady showed up to our room asking if we were leaving. A few minutes later a young man was at our door asking us again. He did apologize as he said he was not aware that we had talked to so many others. We felt like we were getting pushed out when it was agreed 1:00 p.m. was acceptable time to check out at. During check in were told to come back later than we were supposed to check in. We thought nothing bad as they saved our luggage and got start our exploration of Montreal. But in retrospect, they may need to look at their check in and check out arrangements. We did have dinner at the rooftop twice and it is nice, the food was on point, and staff accommodating although we did not have a reservation. The room was nice and spacious (see pictures). Noise was not an issue as we stayed there during the week on our way to Quebec. We were on the 4th floor facing the Rue Norte Dame and could hear some voices in the am, not too loud. Valet service was great. The staff was nice and helpful. If looking into staying here, ask that staff communicate with each other regarding check in and check out. We have stayed at nicer hotels and not so nice hotels and none have done this to us before. read more

The hotel Place d'Armes is wonderful! We stayed there 4 nights in July. The location of the hotel is perfect, in the heart of Old Montreal., a few steps away from Notre-Dame. The staff is very friendly, helpful and professional. The rooms are beautiful, historic yet with all modern amenities including large walk-in showers. The hotel is very clean. They have valet parking, as well as two restaurants on site. The sushi restaurant is exceptional. There is also a rooftop terrace with gorgeous views (and they serve drinks and food). Having booked on the Internet, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. My friends and I arrived early on Saturday morning after stumbling off our cruise ship and dragging our suitcases up the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal. We were greeted immediately, our luggage was secured, and the concierge helped us determine a walking tour so we could make the most of our time in the city. Late in the afternoon, we wandered back to check in and rest. The front desk attendant was like, "we've upgraded you to a penthouse suite" as opposed to the junior suite we booked. Not thinking it could possibly be as nice as it sounded, we were like, "sure." Well... It was AWESOME! And GORGEOUS! And SPACIOUS! And AMAZING! The room was (seriously) bigger than one of my companion's condos. The ceilings must have been 15 ft tall at least! There was a long hallway leading to a sitting room with dining table and pull-out couch, a separate bedroom with king bed, and 1.5 bathrooms. The main bathroom even had a soaking tub. Wow! There were also a lot of nice touches - a Nespresso machine, complimentary water and chocolate, turndown service, and great soap and shampoo. Best of all, though, was the service. PLEASE READ my worst experience with Supervisor Phillip We stayed at the Place d'Armes hotel between Sep 16-Sep 19, 2021. The TV in our room was not working since arrival and there were other missing things like hair dryer etc. The staff told us that maybe the previous traveller stole those from our room. We were offered an upgrade to an executive room but we did not want the upgrade so we were told to speak to the supervisor the following morning to work out some other form of concession. The supervisor told us that our breakfast would be covered for the reminder of our stay. This was about 10 am on Sep 17, breakfast was closing soon. We were hungry and so decided to order breakfast at the hotel as it is free now. The restaurant told us it was too late to seat us so instead they could deliver it to our room. We were ok and placed an order for two entrees, one hot chocolate, one coffee and a side of bread and fruits. We continued having breakfast at the hotel for the next two days. Upon checkout, we came to the front desk to check the charges on our account. They had wrongly charged us for the room as we had paid for it earlier while reserving and they also charged us for the breakfast. Upon mentioning to them that our breakfast was offered as a concession by the supervisor, they agreed and removed all three day breakfast charges. It seems the supervisor himself was also listening to this conversation. We agreed on the remaining charges, signed it and left the hotel. We noticed a week later that we were charged an extra $75 on our card. Upon calling, we were told it was for breakfast on the first day(Friday Sep 17) as it was not included. Only breakfast for the next two days was included since apparently the supervisor told us it is covered for "reminder of the stay". He said this at 10 am on Friday and according to us, the remainder of the stay included that day too. In any case, we felt that this should have been communicated to us while we were at the checkout going through every single charge and the supervisor was also part of the conversation. It was agreed then that all three days were covered . The supervisor 'Philippe' on the call was extremely rude and demeaning. He spoke to us as if we wanted to freeload off the hotel and wasn't even ready to consider the situation. We asked why they didn't tell us during checkout, he said 'Other guests were there so I didn't want to take time'. So we asked him why he didn't call us to clarify instead of just charging us without saying. He simply said "I have made a final decision to not refund your money so no point in you talking to me further". I do not know if his comments were racially motivated towards us but he made us feel not worthy of even arguing for our charges. This has been the poorest customer experience of my life and has ruined the memory of my entire trip to Montreal. When we can afford to pay $1500 for a 3 night hotel stay, $75 means nothing. But the fact that the hotel does not even care to treat its customers with respect is a big surprise to me. Goes without saying, we will never return to the Hotel d'Armes  in our lives. We are not writing this to ask for refund but no customer should be spoken to that way especially in a 4.5 star hotel. I hope appropriate action will be taken against this supervisor. read more

I have mixed feelings about the Hotel Place d'Armes. First the good news: The location is awesome and the hotel is actually a collection of four different and very old buildings. We were in building #1, which is where the restaurants are. The building faces a busy road and there's some traffic noise. Reviewers in other buildings talk about noise from wedding receptions, we had none of that and our room was comfortable and quiet. The hallway to the elevator is very narrow and it's an interesting opportunity to dance with the staff and other guests. But I can easily call it old world charm and laugh about it. And then there's the bad news: Our room wasn't particularly clean and mostly the problem was the big splatter of (apparently) dried blood on the windowsill. The windows were all painted shut so we really didn't have any need to deal with that window sill but come on - it was there Sunday night, Monday night, and Tuesday night. I even raised the blinds so housekeeping couldn't miss it, but they did on both days they were in to clean the room. I mentioned it at checkout and they comped my parking but I would have been happier if housekeeping was on top of things like cleanliness. I'm posting a picture of the windowsill, maybe it wasn't blood but it looked like it. Everything else that was wrong was a minor inconvenience but if I were the manager, I'd be really unhappy because endless little problems just scream out "poor execution." The safe is hard to work because the buttons stick and give random errors, and the door can only open halfway because of where the safe was located. The clock radio was equally difficult and it took us two days to set the time. And not wanting to be left out, the coffee maker came with no instructions and could only make espresso. If you want actual coffee, you have to go down to the lobby. While I was taking a shower, I touched the towel rack and a metal rod fell out of it. I did not report any problems to hotel management during my stay. I really expected housekeeping to clean the mess on their own and most of the other problems (like the position of the safe and the alarm clock) they aren't going to have a fix for. And the towel rack fell apart on our last night there, so what would be the point? Once I could find a valet (I was successful on my 3rd try) my car was quickly whisked away and it was quickly returned in the same condition that it left in. I'd like to end this review on a good note. The shower had good water pressure, television reception was flawless and internet connectivity was easier than most hotels with bandwidth limited to 3 mbps up and down. Not fast but adequate for checking email. Without exception, every member of the staff was smiling and polite. I wouldn't be afraid to come back. Next time I might make ask them to fix the things that weren't right because housekeeping doesn't see things on their own, but I'd come back for the cool building(s), the incredibly upbeat staff, and the location. More likely, I'd stay somewhere else because there's got to be a small, amazing hotel somewhere in the old city. read more

Nice hotel rooms! At lest the suites. That's the most important thing. However, the hallways are a bit sketchy. The restaurants in the hotel are mediocre (not a big deal since there are so many great alternatives nearby - walking distance). The hotel bars, on both the ground floor and roof, are also me (but, again, you could go to better places easier nearby). Dock 1 star for this but I don't think any of this is a big deal. Close to metro. Central enough. No comment on service staff since I didn't need to ask for anything during my visit. read more

Had a cocktail on the rooftop (terrasse) on a Wednesday late afternoon and it was a very lovely experience. Great rooftop for groups. Great for impressing your friends. It's a little more chill than the William Gray, but it is definitely worth a visit. If I were you, I'd go to the Place d'Armes terrasse around 3:30pm, stay an hour, then head over to the William Gray, where there is a DJ, loud music, tons of people watching and in general...a really great time. :-) read more

This review has noting to do with the hotel itself, but it is a review of the NYE party that they hosted. Tickets were $175 and it included a 5 course meal. Let me just mention some highlights to how unorganized and how I felt it was a waste of money. - Dinner was suppose to start at 9p, it started after 10p. - The menu said we would have a lobster bisque soup with half a lobster tail. We had one small piece of lobster - for a party of 300 people they supplied 1 bar and 1 bartender - we did not complete our entire meal until after midnight. Or you can say I started eating in 2019 And finished in 2020 - Not one we were ever apologized to or compensated in anyway for the delayed meal and prolonged dinner I would not recommend a party here in the future if they do it again. read more

I booked this hotel via Amex travel, which is usually pretty good. It was serviceable, but there were a number of issues: 1) the pictures online for a "junior suite" show suites, basically hotel rooms with multiple rooms. A stair case was even in a couple of the pictures. This hotel room was just a normal hotel room. Not the end of the world but not really what I thought I was paying for. 2) I booked three nights and my flight was canceled, and they still charged me for the first night 3) there were a number of things that you expect in nice hotels that weren't here. The lockbox was out of service (they did fix it later), one of the light fixtures in the bathroom was broken and was hanging ajar from the ceiling, another light in the bathroom was out, there was no bad to pack my dirty clothes in on way home. 4) there is only one restaurant in the hotel for lunch and it had a ridiculously long line 5) I called reception at 130am because there was no option for food except for Uber eats and I needed utensils, no one answered, and then I went down and no one was there. Great location in an old collection of buildings. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My complaints are all COVID driven so can't blame the hotel, but would be nice if they updated website for the differences in what is or is not available. read more

This hotel exceeded our expectations during a recent family vacation. I cannot say enough good things about it. Hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Every staff member we encountered was extremely professional and courteous. Our room was clean, spacious and relaxing. The hotel is ideally situated as it is within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. My husband and I now consider ourselves customers for life and we look forward to returning one day for a visit. Loved, loved, loved our stay!! The hotel is perfectly situated in Old Montreal. The staff were friendly and attentive. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. I stayed 3 nights with my daughter to celebrate her birthday--I mentioned the reason for our stay in passing at check in. On her birthday, she received a handmade card and plate of sweets...very nice touch! We loved sitting on the terrace--I only wish it was open earlier to enjoy our morning coffee up there. read more

We came for a week and we did expect definitely better service from the hotel! First night we arrived we found out that our jacuzzi tub wasn't able to keep water and I could not use it so we told next morning to concierge to fix it but unfortunately we had not been even updated for all 7 days we spent there and we was leaving this morning nobody asked how was our stay when we was checking out, We also was charged for water bottles which we didn't know wasn't free, Nesspreso machine wasn't working, they only fixed it next day after we told about if, seems like room have not been checked for maintenance before we arrived, would be nice if guests will arrive to a fixed and ready room instead to find things out on a spot as it made our stay not as excited as we thought and we was recommended, I guess for the price it charged we would love to have next guests better stay and hopefully they won't run into our disappointment Julia read more

Such an amazing experience at this hotel. My girlfriend brought me here for a night while we were visiting from Boston. The staff was friendly and attentive in all dealings, the room was spacious and beautiful with hardwood floors. Our bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, and we had a view overlooking the beautiful square with the Notre Dame basilica across. The lobby even had a pool table for late night fun. We will be returning soon for another perfect romantic getaway! read more

We stayed here just for the two nights while we had an extended layover before our flight home. The rooms were super spacious and nice and the staff were incredible. Booked a last-minute room here for Nuit Blanche 2013 via hoteltonight.com. Chose the property because it was roughly equidistant to UQAM and the Belgo, where I planned to take pictures. Also because boutique hotel. I collect boutique hotel stays the way some people collect Pez dispensers. Check-in was courteous and speedy, if one disregards the somewhat amusing ceremony during which I was offered a $20 upgrade to a king room. Declined. Was then given a ticket for a complimentary cocktail at the bar for no apparent reason. Free martini coupon in hand, I went up to the queen room I'd paid for. Surprise: It hadn't been made up. Minks were still fornicating in the bed. There were towels on the lavatory floor. Whole place reeked of Chanel No. 19. I quickly donned a latex glove and called the front desk. "Hello. This is President Mugabe in room XYZ. I just checked in a minute ago. The, um, room you've sent me to hasn't been cleaned yet--" "OMG WTF I AM SO SORRY! I WILL PUT YOU IN A BETTER ROOM!" The immediacy of the reply made me suspect this kind of thing had happened to them before. To their credit, they were in full grovel when I returned to the front desk for another set of keys. Next room they sent me to was a huge king, big enough to rollerskate in. Towels properly folded, no one sitting on the john. Apart from housekeeping's choice of a nauseating, headache-inducing rose-scented room spray, my complete inability to convince the thermostat to display anything but 76°F, and the constant, loud white noise from the main ventilation trunk adjacent to the room, it was as nice an accommodation as I've ever stayed in. Figured I'd be tired enough to sleep through the noise and the smell when I finally got back after midnight, and I was right. Mattress was nice and firm. Pillows were like warm marshmallows. Slept like a corpse. Bathroom was well-appointed. Shower stall large enough for a Shetland pony, with a big-ass rainfall shower head. Hot water, lots of it. Their soap didn't make me want to puke. Towels were big enough to wrap, and stay wrapped. Plenty of light to shave in. Night clerk was extremely accommodating when I'd needed to make a field-expedient repair to a camera just before midnight, and asked if they had six inches of black electrical tape . Maintenance man appeared with a roll within a minute. Check-out was breezy, except for the part when they charged me for a supper at Suite 701. Problem was, I hadn't even gone in for my comped drink- the thumpa-thumpa music and the lurid pink light over the bar had scared me the hell away the second I'd peeked in. I'd actually eaten supper in a Chinese dumpling place on St-Laurent. "Really? That wasn't me." "Oh?" (Frenzy of flipping documents.) "HA-HA! PLEASE DISREGARD! YOU MAY LEAVE NOW!" A mixed look of shame and terror on her face, poor beast. Again, it seemed like something the front desk has to put up with once in a while. Very good "damage control" customer service attitude, plus a clean, parking lot-sized king room with everything working for $125 taxes in, are what's getting them the three stars. One learns to expect hiccups and slightly dodgy rooms when booking through discount sites, frankly. If I'd been paying full rate, though, I expect some things would have been quite different. I'll seriously consider using this place for next year's Nuit Blanche, if I can get a similar rate. read more

Could have been great..... Great front door service, procuring an umbrella and checking luggage were a breeze. Rooms were well taken care of by housekeeping. Perfect location...good walking distances from all of Old Town. For our first few days we stayed in the old Scottish side of this hotel. Rooms were small, but nicely done with small, renovated bathrooms. Hall noise was very loud, but you could not hear from room-to-room. On the first day I noticed a rancid smell in the hall. I mentioned it to the desk. On the second day it was worse....smoke and strong cooking and grease odors in the hall, but so far not the room. I spoke to the desk manager. We received candy and an apology. On the third day smoke was accumulating in our room. The desk clerk moved us (for our last night) to the newer side of the hotel. They sent a bottle of red wine and an apology. This way I got to experience both types of rooms...the new side was bigger and modern. I liked the look of the old side better, but the size of the new. I understand that they may not have been able to address their kitchen HVAC problem right away....and did not necessarily expect a fix during our stay. I think they were very slow to respond to our discomfort , and wonder about all the other folks left there. The smell was revolting. Sadly not a wonderful stay.... read more
