Ah... Pigneto. Still full of so many surprises, so much to discover. Every time I head that way I find some new place which warms the cockles of my heart. This very simple bar is on a busy corner of Via del Pigneto and has been here for around 50 years. I actually stopped here, looking for breakfast, because of a very inviting sign outside: "Bigne di San Giuseppe €1.30".
Once inside, I wasn't disappointed. Let's be clear, this is a very characteristic local bar, with old-fashioned decor, a corner selling tobacco and other goods, and a few tables for those who would like to stay a while and enjoy a sandwich or a snack. It's not trendy or modern, but the staff are exceptionally friendly, and if you want to sit down and take your time, no-one is going to disturb you for the world.
They serve breakfast and lunch, a classic mix of "cornetti" and sandwiches, plus the usual range of soft drinks and aperitifs. The little shop is quite useful too.
So, friendly, old-fashioned service in a pleasant, retro bar. What more can you ask for? read more
