Ended up being a great choice, not overly crowded with tourists and easy to grab an outdoor table, even in the afternoon on a weekend. We started with drinks (which were excellent) and shared a meat and cheese platter that hit the spot. I went with the pizza, which was solid nothing mind-blowing, but definitely good quality and satisfying after hours of walking around and sightseeing. Okay spot for dinner a stone's throw away from the Colosseum. There is not much much indoor seating, so we sat outdoors in a covered area. There is a small shaded area that kept the drizzle out. -1/2 L red house wine: (3/5), tasted good and full bodied, but did get a headache afterward which didn't happen for all the other house wines I tried. -Truffle Cacio e Pepe: (3/5), could barely taste the truffle, was only added on as shavings over the dish at the table -Focaccia bread basket (5/5), perfectly seasoned -Suppli (2/5), tasted too breaded/fried -Tiramisu (3/5), solid, nothing special Service was friendly although he didn't speak a lot of English. On our first attempt to try this spot out for a weeknight dinner, we were too late. This small restaurant fills up quickly. Not only is it in a popular area near the Colosseum but it is freaking wonderful. Luckily we stopped back by the following day for a late lunch and got a table. We started with some cheese and honey. Generous portions and yumm. How can you go wrong. Then decided to split a pizza and ragú pasta. Let me just say that I ate quite a few pizzas in Italy. This one was by far the best of this run. The crust, the sauce, the veggies. Roasted eggplant, zucchini and sweet peppers. The trinity of any vegetarian dish in Italy apparently. But it was perfection. The pasta was really great too. A nice robust meaty sauce over fresh made pasta. There was a pretty long wine list but I went for beer since it had been a while. Definitely check this little gem out of in the area. read more

*MUST READ FROM START TO FINISH!* Woah. Completely amazing experience. The owner here is absolutely REMARKABLE and we're very appreciative of the experience we had while we were here. The food is delicious, the wine is top-notch, and the staff is extremely professional and pleasant. We had actually called earlier to see if we could get a reservation, but they were full. After checking out some other restaurants in the area and seeing what horrible reviews they had, we decided to pop in to see if they had any room for us. Thankfully, they were able to squeeze us in, and we were so happy they did. They have a HUGE selection of wine here; literally the size of an encyclopedia, lol. We tried the bottle of Pinot Nero for our wine, which is made in Sicily; highly recommended if you're a Pinot Noir lover. The owner was extremely knowledgeable in how to remove the sediment and poured our wine into a decanter to aerate it. He was totally a pro, and you couldn't help but watch in awe as he did his thing. As far as our food, we tried to cod fish appetizer, the truffle egg pasta, and the Bolognese egg pasta. Everything was delicious!! My boyfriends truffle pasta was his favorite of the trip and that's saying a lot because we actually went to a 200 euro per person truffle tasting menu in another restaurant in Rome. My Bolognese was everything I could have hoped for. This was the only time we actually finished all our food in full while we were in Roma! As far as the dessert, we tried the biscotti gelato with melted chocolate that totally hit the spot for us. It was amazing! The tables are a little close together, but it actually worked out in our favor because we made some amazing friends that were sitting right next to us. We though we'd come here just for dinner, but we ended up staying almost two more hours because we loved the atmosphere here so we decided to keep ordering drinks. While we were outside smoking a cigarette, some guy came out and I could barely understand what he was saying. He asked for a light and he kept telling us he wanted to drink with us. While we continued our conversation with the couple we had met, he stood there for a GOOD 20 minutes without saying a word. The whole time He was there I was wondering if he was trying to pick-pocket us or something. The owner must have looked at the camera or something, and came out and immediately approached the man. I don't understand Italian, but the couple we were with did and they pretty much said the owner said something along the lines of "how do you know these people? you don't know these people, get out of here and don't bother them". We really appreciated his gesture because who knows what the guys intentions were; he could have been trying to rob us for all we know. That right there is customer service at its finest. Even after we paid and left, the owner cared enough to make sure his patrons were well-taken care of. I'll always recommend this restaurant to anyone I know moving forward. Do yourself a favor and come here! It's only a block or two away from the Colosseo, so this is the perfect spot before or after your tour. We got the arugula caprese Insalata and it was fresh and delicious. We asked for balsamic and not just olive oil to put on it. So good. Then my hubby for the special pasta that was like a carbonara but with red sauce. It was pretty good but honestly I wasn't feeling like carbs since all we've been eating is pasta and pizza. So I asked for a suggestion and she said the pork. First thing under entrees. Omg it was better than my husbands pasta. It was crunchy on the outside where the fat was and so moist on the inside. I'll start with a warning: there's always a line of people waiting outside so if you're in a hurry, I'd suggest you go some place else. Oh, and if you're claustrophobic, this place isn't for you either. There's room for about 20 people packed like sardines, however, the atmosphere is nice. I think that locals and tourists alike keep coming back because of the feel of the place and the food. My husband and I tried to eat there once and because it was packed went to another restaurant. The second time we tried was (big surprise) packed again so I decided to ask if we could order to go and they do offer that option. I don't think that many people know that or maybe they want the whole experience of sitting down, enjoy the music and ambiance. We just wanted a taste of their food and didn't mind taking our order to our Airbnb that happened to be in the building right across from them. My husband got the filetto di manzo with veggies and it was cooked perfectly (medium), the beef just melts in your mouth. I got the tonnarelli alla carbonara which was delicious as well. Located not far from the Colleseum, it's worth walking that little bit further to be a little farer from the touristic restaurants that look good but offer not much. It is called a wine bar but has a great menu selection if you are chasing some bites. Posters on the door suggest it has been recommended by the le routarde, the french travel guide the last 5 years running. They have a great selection of wines (if that couldn't be gleemed from the wine bar title) and its recommended to let the waiter/sommelier, because let's be honest, that's what they're paid for ;) I love this place because its got a very warm, welcoming, cute and quaint feel to it, the grub is great and the wine selection fantastic and extremely well priced (bottles generally 15-30 EUR). My sister and I saw all the great reviews on Yelp and trip adviser and decided to come in for lunch, but we were very very disappointed. Here's our experience: First we come in to a half assed greeting by our waiter who was clearly distracted by something else. We're seated and we order promptly. My sister and I both have a type of pasta. We're so excited for it, but when we get it, we're immediately scrunching our noses. My pasta was cold, hard, watery, and the cheese tasted like it has gone bad. My sister's pasta was underdone and she felt like she was munching on chips. I, of course, can't finish my pasta. To give you an idea, I'm a 4'10 girl with the stomach of a bird. Even when I LOVE my food, I can't finish it. I've been in Italy for 5 weeks and every other waiter understood and took no offense when my plate wasn't clean. THIS WAITER, however, proceeded to look at the couple next to us and ROLL HIS EYES IN FRONT OF US. Not only was the food the worst I've had in Italy, but this waiter was also the worst waiter in Italy. After this I didn't even bother trying to stay for dessert, and I was looking forward to the wine.
