I saw PA Tras Pfiefer who also ended up calling in a doctor to give a second opinion. The diagnosis was a tonsil stone, however I went there for medical care, not just a diagnosis or advice on how to remove this myself, which is what I was given. A prescription for antibiotics was called into the wrong pharmacy in the exact opposite direction of where I was traveling, however I was told to only take the antibiotics if I really needed them. I was also told to go home and use a popsicle stick or Q-tip to try and dislodge and extract this painful thing myself. I didn't go to medical school or have any special medical training and that's why I went to the medical clinic - for medical care not some DIY program advice. They have tongue depressors and cotton on sticks in the exam room, so why did they tell me to go home and do it myself? For starters I can't even see this well enough to extract it on my own. They wrote the name of an ENT at the Lander hospital on a sticky note. (It takes MONTHS to even get in to see an ENT around here, and the best one is Dr. Trott at St. John's in Jackson - and he's nearly impossible to get in to.) My wife didn't know what to do with this information because she also didn't go to medical school and has no special training. We didn't even know what this was supposed to look like or how it was supposed to come out. So after a very miserable weekend I went to the ER on Monday morning, waited an hour and a half to be seen and in less than 15 seconds an RN had removed the tonsil stone. Instant relief, but OMG, are you freaking kidding me? I suffered all weekend because two 'professionals' at Lander Medical Clinic clearly weren't up to the task. This is sad. Even more sad is that my insurance will pay their bill. For anyone who lives in this area you are probably already aware we are in a healthcare desert. We have clinics that are only for pediatrics, only for women, only for Native Americans who are enrolled tribal members, only for the poor, etc... there are apparently no clinics for working blonde haired, blue eyed men with insurance. We get to go to the ER and wait our turn, or drive to another town, or board a plane and fly to another state - which is ridiculous but has certainly been done. If you're thinking of moving to Wyoming and particularly to Fremont County, to this general area keep this in mind because it is hands-down the biggest drawback of living in God's Country.

The office help is beyond rude, their refusal to answer the phone is ridiculous. The will…read moreautomatically put a person on hold and claim, falsely, that they are busy. I'd recommend letting your provider know that its near impossible to make an appointment over the phone.
