Shortly after checking in, we were asked to meet with a "VIP" manager. What sounded like a brief welcome meeting turned into a sales presentation for a vacation membership. We were told it would involve approximately 90 minutes over breakfast, and we agreed because of the offered incentives, including $500 in spa credit. Instead, the presentation lasted more than three hours and involved repeated attempts to persuade us to purchase. While we understood that the resort markets these programs, the length and sales pressure should have been explained more clearly. Losing most of a vacation morning was frustrating. Our room was another disappointment. We had booked a partial ocean-view room, but the view consisted entirely of trees. At our first dinner, we were sixth in line. The guests ahead of us were seated near the oceanfront windows, while we were taken to a table in the back near the kitchen and salad bar, despite many open tables in the more desirable section. On its own, this might have seemed minor, but it contributed to our overall impression. The spa experience was also inconsistent. The resort did honor the $500 credit, which we appreciated. However, during our first visit, we watched other guests being escorted to the locker rooms and given robes and slippers, while we were taken directly to the waiting area in our resort clothes. We were not offered access to the locker rooms, steam room, showers, or other amenities. After our massages, we were simply escorted out. The massages were fine, but the overall experience did not feel comparable to what other guests received. We raised our concerns with a front desk manager, who listened and made a genuine effort to improve our stay. He offered either a room with the partial ocean view we had booked or an upgrade to a swim-out suite in the more convenient central area. We chose the swim-out suite and appreciated the upgrade. He also provided a complimentary beach cabana. My second spa visit was much better. I was properly welcomed and offered access to the amenities. The spa manager personally apologized for what he called a miscommunication during my first visit and gave me a gift bag of spa products. I appreciated the gesture and his effort to address the issue. After speaking with management, we were also instructed to tell our concierge where we planned to dine each evening. From then on, we were seated in better areas of the restaurants. While we appreciated the improved treatment, it reinforced our feeling that the service we initially received was not the same as what other guests were receiving. The food throughout the resort was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but it did not meet our expectations for a property at this price and reputation. We have stayed at several other highly rated all-inclusive resorts in the region, many of which were less expensive and not marketed as five-diamond properties. Based on our experiences, we would rank nearly all of them above Secrets Akumal in terms of overall service, dining, and consistency. As an LGBTQ couple, we were also left questioning whether we were treated differently. Secrets advertises itself as gay-friendly, which helped us feel comfortable choosing the resort. I cannot say with certainty why our experiences differed from those of other guests, and I do not want to accuse individual employees of intentional discrimination. However, the repeated differences we noticed--from restaurant seating to the spa experience--left us wondering whether being a same-sex couple played a role. No guest should leave a luxury resort questioning whether they received the same level of welcome and service as others. To the resort's credit, management responded thoughtfully once we raised our concerns. The room upgrade, beach cabana, improved restaurant seating, second spa experience, apology, and gift were meaningful gestures. However, it was disappointing that we had to complain before receiving the level of hospitality we expected from the beginning. This was an important trip for us, and I proposed to my partner during our stay. I had hoped Secrets Akumal might become a special place we would return to for anniversaries. Although the resort is beautiful and management made a sincere effort to improve our experience, the inconsistent service, disappointing food, lengthy sales presentation, and concerns about unequal treatment left us unwilling to return. Secrets Akumal has many positives, but the setting alone was not enough to overcome the problems we experienced. We will always remember getting engaged there, but we will choose another resort for future celebrations.

Overall, we had a wonderful 7 night stay. Buffets: The daily buffets were offered 3 times a day and had themed sections, like Full English Breakfast, Mexican, Pizza, Dessert, etc. All of the selections I made were very yummy. I particularly enjoyed the variety of breakfast poached eggs as well as the green juice. They try to label each item with the name of the food and any allergens, which was confusing at times. One white rice would state that it had wheat, but the other white rice was not labeled with the wheat. I asked a manager and he helped me to understand, but pointed out another food item that had no wheat allergen sign and said that that is made with gluten. All in all, if you have an allergy, be very careful with your selections. They do have a dedicated gluten-free bakery case and toaster. If you're vegetarian/vegan, you might not find enough protein here. Restaurants: We made dinner reservations for each night and loved the variety of restaurants. I would recommend checking out the menus before you go and making reservations early, as we met people who didn't and were stuck with 9:45pm reservations or none at all because they didn't book ahead. Grounds/Rooms: The adults only Sian Ka'an campus is lovely, surrounded by lush trees and beautiful birds. The pools are the big ticket item here, and lots of people lay out each day relaxing. We had the penthouse suite with the jacuzzi. The room was more or less basic, with just the essentials. The bed was large and comfortable. I enjoyed how they re-filled you mini bar each day. We would've used the jacuzzi more if you didn't have to refill and drain it each time you wanted to use it. Upon arrival, we celebrated our honeymoon by putting a ribbon on our door and rose petals on our bed, which was sweet. Service: The service here was excellent. Every single employee was kind and friendly, always saying hello. They love when you put effort into speaking Spanish, so feel free to practice. They all work very hard, and it shows. The drinks are veryyyy weak, including the shots, which is probably company policy and for the better since we're sipping them all day long anyway. The golf cart service to and from the various hotels was good overall. Occasionally there was a delay or we had to wait a while for a ride, but overall it's a fine system and makes it feel like a little adventure going to and from each resort. Overall, Sian Ka'an was a great value for what you receive. We booked with their Black Friday sale last year, so maybe check that out if you're looking for a better deal. We would definitely come back!

Although the beach here is sandy, there are lots of submerged rocks, a 15 minute walk up the beach brings you to good snorkeling territory. There's a kiddy pool for little ones and a bigger pool to keep older kids entertained. You can stock your kitchen at the Super-Ched market 15 minutes up the carretera. The restaurant has limited selection, but is inexpensive and everything is good. A bottle of Pacifico with chips and guac go down pretty nicely with the ocean view in the afternoon. The small village of Akumal is a 15 minute walk north. Tasty ice cream and yummy pastries can be found at the Turtle Bay Cafe. The city of Tulum is 25 min south, were you'll find Mayan ruins, bars and restaurants and tourist kitch. Just south of Akumal is Aktun Chen a "natural park" with caves, swimming in a cenote and zip-lines. We went for a week and didn't want to leave. We hope to go back next year!

Fourth( hotel restaurant) it said free breakfast which from reviews I read was free a few months ago it's no longer free the only thing that was is a choice of ( coffee, orange or fruit) you pick 1.. disappointing since that was one of my reason of booking the hotel ! Also breakfast was not too pricey but dinner and drink are like if we're in the us ! No difference in price. They had evening entertainment such as a magic show, several musicians (pianist/singer, cellist, violinist), 6 or 7 restaurants, pools, and lots of fun in the sun. We stayed on the luxury adults only side, but would also venture over to the family side for some of the shows as well as for the beach (beach was much better on that side). We actually stayed at one of their sister properties next door. There was a complimentray shuttle that took us from one property to the other. Very convenient. The sister property was nice, but from the looks of it the Grand Bahía Príncipe Coba may be actually nicer. Will have to spend some nights here in the future to find out. In the meantime, I highly recommend patronizing their Nikkei Mashua Restaurant. Awesome place with delicious food!!

Firstly at the gate you have to give your information like ID and booming number to someone with a clipboard before they open the gate. I am aware this is Mexico and English is not the first language, but this is a facility that will be bringing in tourists as nearly all of their revenue and I'd be willing to guess most of them do not speak Spanish. Luckily there was one woman who spoke English very well but unfortunately for her it left her doing the work of 5 people. There were literally 4 people around her not able to properly help anyone that didn't speak fluent Spanish. We headed into the buffet to eat some lunch before checking out the pool area. The buffet is beautiful and it has a lot of options. Unfortunately the food was pretty pedestrian as far as flavor goes. Lots of things for kids and people who just want to get something in their system, but at a place with these prices and this level of "luxury", I expected far better from the food. The pool area is beautiful and there is a nice swim up bar. The temperature of the pool was nearly perfect and my time in the water was very enjoyable. It was so busy that there were zero chairs available but we just set our stuff in the grass and got in the water. The bartender was very busy and our first round of drinks were made by a bar back. They were horrendous. We are in Mexico and I've literally never had a worse margarita anywhere on the planet than that first drink I had. The bartender took care of our drinks moving forward and then they were good. We met a lot of very friendly people here and had a good day. Got to interact with some iguanas and cattamundi as well. I genuinely hope they fix these issues so I could change this rating. This would be somewhere I'd frequent if things were slightly different. As it stands from this trip though, Bahia Príncipe Grand Coba - Kinda Sucked.

This place is super kid friendly as it is mostly family's with kids, lots of visitors from Europe also. Lots of swimming pools and an awesome beach on the property. As far as dining, make reservations on your first day of arrival for the specialty restaurant's or you will be eating at the buffet every night, the food is good and your best bet is to try the other hotels as some seemed better then others. Definitely take a cab off property to downtown Tulum for some shopping and bar hopping just to change it up a little. When booking your tours don't be afraid to branch out with your own taxi instead of locking into the tour bus which is all day. You can just book a taxi for a few hours and the drivers know all the in and outs of where to go. Overall was a great stay and will definitely be back again next year.

Dolphins travel 50 to 60 miles a day .. keeping them in this tiny pool is like keeping a human trapped in a coffin when they are alive.
