We got combo #2 which came with three birria quesatacos and a consume, an extra quesataco and a lengua taco. Husband said the lengua was good (8.5 out of 10) but the birria was the winner. Meat was flavorful and super tender with a crispy tortilla. The restaurant itself was clean and well kept, including the bathrooms. The gentlemen at the register and in the back cooking were friendly and even gave us a few recommendations in the area. Overall, would definitely return to try something else. read more

We were on a roadtrip coming from Arizona and heading towards San Diego. We decided to go as south as possible in hopes to finding some amazing authentic Mexican food. We hit the jackpot when we stopped at La Birrieria Red Tacos! The owners are super sweet and big on customer service. I called ahead to make sure they were open, our ETA showed us getting there 15 minutes after they closed but the owner said he would wait for us to arrive! That's five star customer service right there! The food is also five star quality! We got tacos and the quesitacos. The quesitacos were our favorite! The meat was juicy and they way it bonded with the meat just made it perfect! There was something special about the cheese that added great flavor! So I was in search for a good spot to eat out in Calexico, other than the same places we visit after shopping at the mall in el Centro or the Outlets in Calexico. I found this spot on Yelp and oh man the food was "BOMB Diggity". My husband, daughter & myself not only enjoyed the meal but the service. Our waiter Mila was awesome, great personality & she kind of realized we were newbies so she walked us right through their short menu on the wall & she made us feel so welcomed. We ordered the Combo#1 it comes with (3) birria tacos, a queso birria taco (1) consome for $10 & we added the (3) tacos for $6 to start, but Mila our waiter said that we would definitely ask for more, because there were so good. We did I totally recommend the spot if your passing by El Center or shopping in the area. I've had my share of birria tacos through out my life & we've always enjoyed them best when we visit San Luis Mexico, but this spot will be one of my top 3 favorite places to visit when I'm in the area from now on. Definitely a gem. The birrieria was very good, the best I've had was in Sinaloa , Mexico and this would be the best in California I've had so far. I ordered the combo plate with two tacos, a quesadilla and a small soup, I believe it was $10 bucks. When I 1st got the plate I thought it was quite pricey for what I got but than I ate it and it was more than I needed, came out filling 20 lbs heavier. The soup was spot on to wash all the food down. The salsa was pretty good as well. Let put it this way, my wife wanted to buy three more plates to go for us later. The owner was saying they are only open until 2:30. We got there right before 1 and it was nice and slow. He told us we just miss the lunch rush. The place is quite small I think there is 6-7 tables. The style is a mix between Jalisco and Tijuana. It was well condimented, however, a bit too much cinnamon for my taste, nevertheless, still flavorful. It is BEEF birria not goat meat.
