Nestled into charming, little Strada in Chianti, among the rolling hills of vineyards and olive groves, the restaurant/deli has a beautiful, cozy indoor space that you'll want to linger at for hours. They also have a gorgeous outdoor garden area, but it was a little too chilly to sit outside during our visit the first weekend in March. Upon arrival, Andrea and his warmly wife greeted us and our dog. (Have I mentioned lately that I love how dog friendly Italy is?!?) Once seated, we were told the offerings for the day -- there are no menus here -- and settled on a tagliere and pappardelle with wild boar ragu. Plus a local wine, because... duh... we're in Chianti, people! The tagliere that Gregorio presented us was the best selection of meat and cheeses that we've had during our time in Italy. (And, we've had A LOT of meat and cheese in our first 8-months here.) We ordered the board for 2 people but it could have easily served 5. The warm foccacia it came with was like little, salty pillows from heaven. Not to be over shadowed, the cinghiale pasta was also to die for! The ragu was so rich and savory, with hints of cinnamon and cloves. Mmmmmm! We wrapped up our meal with a couple desserts -- a cheesecake with chocolate and a mascarpone and pear dish. Both were light and airy, the perfect compliment to a heavy antipasti and primi. The complementary vin santo washed it all down and helped us start to digest. Perfect in every single way! We selected him and his team for our wedding in Tuscany in April 2018 and it couldn't have been more perfect. The process was amazing - Alessio gave us an incredible choice of food on the menus, and all were extremely gourmet options - not the standard mass-dinner selections you usually get for weddings. He let us mix and match to our taste. On the day, he and his team were excellent - they supplied not only amazing food and service, but also everything else you needed - chairs, tables, glassware, bar, apertivo - the whole thing from start to finish. His traditional cake show, where he made the wedding cake by hand in front of the guests was truly a wow moment, very memorable and great for pictures and to get the energy up after a dinner. This restaurant stood out as one of the finest dining experiences of my 11 days in Italy. The owner and chef is named Emilio - and though he speaks very little English - his communication through the language of delectable foods is superb. Our guide translated as he prepared a grape cake for us to enjoy later - then he created a wonderful zucchini flower risotto for our group. It was a joy to watch him work and his staff was phenomenal. We enjoyed wine, a mixed grill, pasta, and dessert over the course of three hours and I would love to return to this charming restaurant if I'm ever in the Florence area again. Wonderful!

We came here for a wine tasting. The wine label name Ottomani is Italian for "8 hands" because 4 young fellows started this winery a couple decades ago. Their intent was to honor the old-time way of making chianti wines but to put a new twist on it by distilling the wine in non-traditional ways. Such as aging their sangiovese in terracotta cisterns or their chianti classico in cement vats (an ancient method). One of the owners gave us four tastings and provided a basic charcuterie plate. The casual, relaxed seating was outdoors on a beautiful day. The wines had a different taste than traditional wines from this region. I liked them all; they seemed to have a smoother taste. Not being a sommelier I can't properly describe what the exact difference was. I liked them well enough that I ordered some to be shipped home. Kudos to these guys for winemaking in their own way and breaking tradition.

Also ordered the Regina Margherita which came on wheat bread (surprising but good). The Sausage pizza was delicious! As an American who loves burgers I didn't love the 18 Euro hamburger which was rare, topped with a tomato and cheese and wedged between what was a crispy grainy bread. Overall a great local restaurant (with free wifi)!
