This is the essential Périgueux restaurant. Do not do what I did and ask for a regional wine, as you may get the same astounded reaction from the server. This place is not in the business of serving French food or even French wines. Given the monopoly of traditional French restaurants in this part of France, La Bouteille Bleue is a refreshing change of pace.
The dining room here is cozy and intimate and the service friendly and decidedly quick by French standards. The menu is refreshed daily and written onto a chalkboard which is propped up near your table while you decide, and the dishes on it are wonderfully inventive. If the salmon tartare with passionfruit is on there when you visit, I recommend it highly. Some of the food arrives on slateboard plates which are lovely to look at but less pleasant to scrape a spoon across.
Avoid if you're after more traditional cuisine, but if you're interested in a creative, modern menu then this is the best place for it in the region. read more
