I had recently arrived from a VERY long day/night of travel (almost 20 hours!) and I was very tired, so the following day I woke up very late! Having said that, I know European friends do not eat lunch after 2 pm since that is the time that they take to eat their lunches, gather with friends, siesta and prep for the evening meal as well. I approached La Petite Borie because it was within steps of my Apartment and decided to pop in for lunch. It was about 1:40 pm (a bit late!!!), but the owner/manager greeted with a smile, reminded me that they will close shortly and suggested a great duck dish for me to enjoy! My waitress was super sweet, quick to bring bread and water! I also ordered a salad which was a meal in itself, but it had been a few years since I visited France so I had forgotten that they usually serve some greens with the meals. I did my best to eat it all and then my main course arrived. (I ate it quickly so I didn't get a chance to snap a photo--sorry!) but I assure you it was a delicious as EVERY SINGLE MEAL I ate on my visit was!! The duck was cooked perfectly, it was succulent, flavorful and perfect. I believe that I had Pommes de Terre Sarladaises and they were the perfect texture and made a great match with my duck and salad. I noticed that they were closing up and the owner/manager just smiled and said, No worries, I will have you stay with us and just let me know when you are done! So I had the whole (beautifully charming place) all to myself! I paid, and then had a nice conversation with him and my waitress and left with a smile and a full, satisfied belly! This restaurant has some unique dishes. My appetizer is a local specialty. Geese gizzard salad. Many restaurants in France serve duck gizzard salad, but in Dordogne area is foie gras production region. There is a lot of geese. The geese gizzard is a lot softer compared to duck gizzard. My wife has the goose pate. Our entrees is beef kabob and duck leg. Both dishes is excellent. The France prepare kabab just lightly seasoning. You may want to add some salt. We end our meal with chef special. It is one of the France favorite. The dessert shape like a dome. This dome is actually make from the foam of egg white. Very unique.

It had the mouth watering flavor you would expect, but the textures were new, and the whole thing was incredible. We also had a pizza and salad with foie gras. Both nights had great - and very affordable - offerings of wine. One was from Saint Emilion and the other ore more local from Bergerac, and they knocked it out of the park. Of course, service is the thing that really brings everything together, and we had the best. Matthew was our waiter both nights, and was very funny and informed - he knew just the right wines to go with our meals, and helped us figure out everything else.
