We stayed at the Hilton garden inn just up the street and we were looking for a place to eat. Turned to Yelp and low and behold up poops this place. As we approach this establishment we thought no way. But as we entered the aroma of the cooking meat changed the whole tune. A hole in the wall, yes! But don't let that fool you. The service was excellent and while the menu was simple, the food was exquisite. The meat was cooked perfectly and the taste was fantastic. read more

I had very high expectations about this place that have unfortunately not been met. We had the côte à l'os for two with a friend and were both rather disappointed by the quality of the meat - lots of bad parts that were very hard to chew. My sunday evenings restaurant. Easy, no need to dress-up, excellent meat, cosy and what a great deal/price! I found this restaurant a couple of years ago and I keep coming back, everyone I bring to La Braise is impressed. Go for the T-Bone for 2 if you are super hungry, the portions are huge! I would say 3-persons would eat it instead of 2! I love the service, is nice to know the owner and his wife is right there, taking cara that every detail is covered. read more

I really like this place, but tonight I got disappointed by the size of the steak for two (côté à l'os). It was more a portion for one, compared with previous times and the portions served on the surrounding tables. When we finished it (quickly) I was still feeling quite hungry. Moreover, we asked for "medium rare" and we got a "bleu" steak. Maybe the place was too crowded tonight? We ended up ordering a "dame noir" as dessert to fill up, which I have to say it was pretty good. When I paid the bill I made a polite comment about the portion we got, and the lady was quite defensive talking about the good price... Good try but this was not a piece of 42€, as it was not even a kilo! As a meat lover I will probably go back again, hoping to be luckier next time. read more

5* No doubt! Not because it offers the most refined and researched cuisine, but simply because it works. The place is a home run, when it comes to food and athmosphere. The food: The menu is EXTREMELY focused around meat,and to be more specific beef. All the regular cuts are there, and if your not in for beef you can have some chiken or scampis. The sevings are very large for European standards, and very decently priced which is always pleasant ;-) The meat is flame grilled, and you can actually see the chef prepare it almost in the middle of the dining room. The meat is served perfectly cooked to your liking, with a baked patatoe and a side of salad. As I said the servings are large so no apetizer for me, but the people with whom I had diner indulge a "fondant au chocolat" which looked devlishly good! Now you might say.. OK, here we have a little (it is tiny), cheap meat joint and it gets 5*! Why? For me real treat is the chef, he is always in a good mood, treats his guests very well, and likes to find solutions. I had booked for 7 but 2 friends showed up with unexpected guests, and one with a stroller and a baby..... Yes we were a little cramped as the place was packed, but it was done with a smile, jokes, and a lot of good spirit. And for me a restaurant owner who likes people like he does makes the difference. Consider yourself warned ! Truly awful, dry & gristly steak (côte à l'os 1 pers.). I had to keep taking pieces out of my mouth and gave up with 2/3 left. I love a good sauce so tried both the au poivre and champignon; neither was good - strong and unsubtle. The proprietor said that she tried the steak and this is normal for them, which is rather sad. They charged for the steak but not the sauces (€3). I did not ask for them to take anything off, but unsure why they asked about my meal if they are happy with their steaks regardless? A very rare Yelp let down. read more

We have been looking a long time for a restaurant that serves a good steak in Brussels but at the same time is not overly priced. La Braise fits the bill. The staff at La Braise were very friendly. We had a filet pur and an entrecôte and both were cooked just perfect and had a lot of taste and this at VERY reasonable prices. The filet pur really melts in your mouth! The pepper and mushroom sauce were also freshly made and delicious. The sides, baked potato and salad, were correct. Although we did miss our Belgian fries but this is personal. I would very much recommend this place and we will be back soon! read more

For the first dinner we had in Brussels, I thought the visit was off to a great start. I found this place thanks to my fellow yelpers giving it such a high rating and the restaurant was maybe a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. The four of us each ordered their signature steak dish and it was a hearty slice of meat along with a generous helping of sides. The dish was excellent and the staff was very friendly. They weren't very fluent in English and we couldn't really speak French or Dutch and they kept apologizing. I don't know why they were apologizing, we were the tourists that couldn't speak their language. The ambiance of the place reminded me of quaint little bar you can still find in parts of NYC. Very dimly lit place in a fairly small area but also very cozy. There was a constant stream of customers that made the place full the entire time we we were there and this was a Thursday night. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area (granted parts of the area turns a bit shady after a short 5 minute walk from the restaurant). If you're staying the city center area, it would definitely be a more pleasant stroll back. read more

BEST.STEAK.EVER. Lovely people, great service, small but intimate. Make sure to reserve, there are not so many tables available, and the place was packed on a Monday night. No wonder though, as this is an unprecedented meat experience :) Also, be prepared to get smoked, so, yep, don't wear your pretty silk dress to this one!
