    Birthday Sopapillas

Since my local Mexican restaurant has let me down lately, we ventured to a local classic today - La Carreta (the original one in Madison Heights, not the one located on business 29). We were traveling today with "Grandaddy" (who happens to travel with the aid of a rollator) for his 86th birthday. Handicap parking was very easy, and there was just a short walk to an easily accessible table/booth. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the music was not overwhelming. Lunch was a real joy and absolutely delicious! I had lunch steak burrito fajita and my husband had lunch beef chimichanga. The Pico de gallo was the best I have had in a very long time! "Granddaddy" had Talavera with ground beef. Our server, Armando, made sure that Granddaddy had a real birthday celebration and brought out a sombrero and Sopapillas for him. Overall, a truly wonderful experience.

    Horchata!!!

Disappointed. Growing up in Southern California and being from a mexican family I know mexican food. I made the mistake of ordering the speedy Gonzales which is a taco, enchilada and refried beans. My waitress barley spoke English which is usually a really good sign your about to eat something amazing. Nope not what happened. I received an American taco with ground beef that was not seasoned at all. The enchilada was "ok" but something more from Taco Bell. I make tacos on a weekly basis and would have been cheaper to do it myself. The beans were good. The highlight and only good thing I can see going for this location is the atmosphere and they have horchata! I absolutely love horchata and most places on the east coast don't make it. If I were to visit Lynchburg again in the future I'd remember not to go here.

Neat place setting. Not a very exciting menu, rather boring. The food we did order was good. Folks were really nice there.

I really wish we had one of these near home. Super friendly staff, great food. This place will be on my list anytime I'm in the area.

Great food, but 3 tacos should not cost $10. I think this location is friendlier than the one on 29.

Yikes! We had high expectations due to the high rating and delicious looking pictures online…read more Unfortunately, the food we received (which was VERY expensive, by the way, and prices for most items were not on the menu) was subpar. We ordered the al pastor tacos with rice and beans, chicken tacos, asada tacos, and asada torta. The good stuff: service was friendly, the wait wasn't too long, and the portions were good (the torta was GIANT). The atmosphere outside would probably be nice at night (they have outdoor seating, tables, lights). The torta was the best thing we ordered, it was good! Unfortunately, all the meat we got was dry and unseasoned. In the torta it was masked by all the other ingredients, but all of the tacos are more simple, so the unseasoned meat couldn't be covered up. The pork on the al pastor was so dry and flavorless I couldn't force myself to take more than a couple bites. The rice and beans also tasted unseasoned and flavorless which was very disappointing. All of this wouldn't have been so disappointing if it wasn't extremely expensive (we are visiting from DC and even street tacos there are cheaper!). We were expecting high quality for a meal that was almost $70 total (9 tacos with one side of rice and beans, one torta, and a soda).

Loved this spot! Was a nice day out and the tables were clean, food came out quick and was very…read moregood!
