This is the best Mexican restaurant in Lynchburg. Their chips are homemade and come out hot. The guac is fresh with avocado chunks. The white cheese queso meets your expectations. Came here per the recommendation of a friend! The first impression seems authentic Mexican! We were greeted by our smiling server Monica! Since this was our first time, we decided on Torta & burrito! We've tried the "popular" Mexican restaurants around town and found them lacking. Other places are Not lacking in over-salty, cheese-covered foods, but lacking in authenticity. El Camino is authentic. The wait staff are super kind and helpful, our meals delicious, and my margarita delicious with a spicy salty rim. My husband ordered the fajitas and I ordered the burrito. We usually start with the basics and move our way into other menus after our first visit. The chips were amazing, crisp, fresh and hot from the fryer. The salsa was prob the best in Lynchburg. We always get two dishes of it because my hubby likes to fire it up with chilis and jalapeño sauces. My chicken burrito was filled with all the usual suspects and a generous amount of fresh cilantro and avocado, which I loved. Marks fajitas were just delicious. Perfectly seasoned, and the veggies grilled to a lovely al dente. The only negatives are the side of beans were very runny and sparse and the place smells like it needs a new overhead fan. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in town! I've now visited twice, giving me enough experience to confidently rate them the five stars they deserve. The restaurant is small, so you might unfortunately miss it; however, you will not forget them after visiting. My husband and I felt so welcomed here and were so pleased with the friendly service. I believe it is a family-run establishment. The chips they have seem to be homemade, which I am not used to experiencing in Lynchburg. On the first visit, I ordered cheese enchiladas (which aren't actually on the menu, but they were more than happy to accommodate). They were incredible, probably the best I have ever had and the most authentic you can get. The rice could have used more seasoning, but otherwise was great. The beans were perfect (flavorful and creamy). On my second visit I opted for pupusas. I honestly thought I may have had to order an additional side at first but glad I didn't because these are so much more filling than they look! They were so crispy and packed with beans and cheese. I can confidently say they are the best I've ever had! I will be returning very soon! TLDR: Do not pass by this small place! This is a hidden treasure with the best enchiladas and pupusas (and that's all I tried so far). read more

We ordered carry out while we were in town visiting Liberty University. The speed of the food was very good. The food tasted ok. It was not the best, but was not anywhere near the worst. A decent middle of the pack. I would have given it 4 stars, but the chips and salsa size was very disappointing. Although the chips were amazing and handmade, they only put a handful in a sandwich zip lock bag and then the salsa was put in a small plastic container - like about 2 TBS size. I LOVE EL CAMINO! I happened upon this place accidentally a year ago and am so happy to have discovered it. Not having tried pupusas before, I ordered a pork, cheese, and beans pupusa. They're fantastic! Their other menu items are good too, and definitely try their juices, horchata (rice drink), Jarritos sodas, or Mexican Coca-Cola (i.e. real sugar, not high fructose corn nonsense). You can have lunch or dinner for under $10. The prices are unbelievable for the great value and quality of food. And the service? Friendly and attentive without being overly present. Love this place! Note that parking is super tight. To back out, you'll likely end up into Lakeside Drive. Just be prepared. I highly recommend El Camino. Cinco Estrellas! read more

Masks are worn when not eating here. We just picked up a great meal here. We had the pupusas and empanadas. We also got a side order of fried plantains. The meals are complete with rice, etc. The food is excellent! Everything is really fresh. We ordered inside and then waited in our car and they delivered it to the car. Definitely go there and read the menu. It's much more complete than anything you'll find on the internet and it is a very extensive menu of Honduran and generally Latin American food.
