Truly much more than a restaurant, La Casa del Mendrugo also sports a museum on the upper levels with local history exhibits. It adds a true archaeological vibe, along with the ancient remains on display underneath the floor by the entrance. The real story however is the food. The Picana steak is a perfect example of how beef can be perfectly cooked with just a grill and some salt and pepper. It was accompanied by the creamiest mashed potatoes I've ever had. I'm not normally a fan of mashed potatoes but this side has won me over. While the menu maybe pricey in the local currency, I found the meal to be a steal in USD. La Casa del Mendrugo is the perfect place for a classy meal in historic Puebla.

The waiter forgot both my drink order, and then my food sat so long waiting to be given to me. It arrived cold. My colleagues food came quickly and they all noted it was warm. I didn't finish my meal, I don't make it a point to eat cold food. The setting is great and would highly recommend for a romantic dinner with a date. Or even a night out with your friends.

A pleasant surprise. The building in itself is very special since they found relics dating hundreds of yours ago on the exact site. The food and service is exceptional. We were serenaded with relaxing piano music over dinner and we checked out their Museum upstairs to walk off all the delicious food we ate. It's a must try!

SUPER COOL PLACE, so apart from great service and decent prices it was a crazy twist to know we were actually dinning in place that was declared historical monument. Upstairs after we had our amazing brunch...was a Museum explaining everything...

This may be on of the finest Mexican meals ever. The food was perfect, from appetizer to sublime dessert. The menu is bilingual and accurate. The staff is professional. Flawless really except for some pop music in the background. But the incongruity is México.

Nice place. Mexican Traditional food with an extra gourmet touch. Great ambiance with piano music. Service can be improved but good.

Five for the service and atmosphere, 3.75 for the food…read more The room is beautiful and the murals make a lovely backdrop for the meal. Be aware that the prices are high for the locale. There is an English menu available online but not in the restaurant. Here's where I get confused. The service is excellent, full white tablecloth treatment, old-school European style. No detail is missed. Then we get to the food. It's really pretty good, all told. Here's where the attention to details goes sideways. The bread rolls felt as if they had been sitting since yesterday. The beans, although delicious, had sat around on the plate long enough to be room temperature and develop a crust. The totopos stuck in the beans were in the beans long enough to get soggy. The rice served alongside the moles was barely above room temperature and a bit dried out. All the food, in general, needed to arrive from the kitchen much warmer. Essentially, anything that could be made ahead of time was, and then left sitting out. It doesn't fit and I don't get it.

Arrived at 6:15pm and sadly, much like most restaurants in Puebla these days, the beautiful dinning rooms were without patrons. Do not take this as a sign of a problem with the restaurants; it is a sign of the Mexican economy, fear of travel to Mexico and results of the current US President's actions. In any event, there are two dinning rooms, the first one is less formal and only had tables for 5 or more, but has a beautiful carved wood alter and is inviting. We chose to go ahead and sit at large table in the informal dinners area. Wait staff was attentive and while I was attempting to improve my Spanish, I did ask for an English menu and the had them. Also the staff were happy to explain ingredients we had not heard of such as an edible semi-succulent leaf that accompanied 2 of my 3 dishes. The meal started with an amuse-bouche of the day, which was like tiny empanada. We requested margaritas mas fuerte and were happy we did. The next dish we both order was the both beautiful and tasty Tayuda Itsmeña. This dish is substantial enough to constitute a whole meal! My second dish was the salmon tartar which was delicious and equally beautiful. The salmon flavor was a bit overpowered, but I loved the sweet flavors of the mango sauce and passion fruit intertwined with the raw red onions and cabbage strips. For mains I had the chicken breast and my friends dined on the filet fillet mignon both dishes had HUITLACOCHE as an ingredient and both were delicious! The deserts were very interesting. My dinner companion enjoyed a sponge cake made with special leaves that was presented with crystalized parsley and arranged to look like trees in a terrarium. As for price, this is the most expensive restaurant I have been to in my week of dining in Puebla, however my (1person) total bill for 3 courses, a margarita and a still-water was $26.50 which is less than a main course alone in a less nice restaurant in California. If you want a fine dinner or are a foodie this is your place.

Despite the room temperature food, the service was great and the flavors were good. I'm hesitant to return to eat, simply because of the low amount of people there and it took quite some time for the food to arrive to our table. I would go for the décor and setting. Perfect venue for an intimate dinner or date.

So you have to take the elevator up once you get upstairs to the course amazing and meet the standard of every Mexican restaurant very sleek, clean, modern beautiful. The waiter that had us was a bit presumptuous, and his joke of guessing who could speak Spanish, and pointing out that I could not when I could. But I allowed him to make the comments and have the conversation because I like listening he took upon himself to tell me what type of drink I would like, and when I went to enter, Jack walked off to make it. So when he brought it back, I kindly told him in Spanish that I don't like drinks with pulp. the lobster risotto is underwhelming. It looks very great and is plated very well with the taste is not there for me. The tacos were amazing and the drink that I photographed was the one I ordered. The drink was good, everyone enjoyed their food. Minus the bland risotto

( FYI: if you choose to sit on the side walk seating area be aware they'll be a lot of people walking thru tables to ask if you want to buy everything under the sun) if you want a quite meal - go inside. We wanted to see the scenery so we opted for the roof. It was a beautiful sunny day! They have a menu already prepared. So, it's either their buffet or a few different options off the menu. They do bring complimentary bread My BF ordered chilaquiles- he loved the way the mole came out. I ordered- BLT w/fries Beverages- coffee & orange juice Our food came out very nicely and in a timely manner. It was great pricing for the amount of food, scenery and staff.
