Given its location if you have a car you will be parking in the newer part of town in the parking garage and either hiking up hill 15+ minutes with your luggage or taking a taxi. We took a taxi. The streets are crazy narrow even for the professionals. We arrived early and were able to check-in. The woman at the front desk was delightful and super helpful (she also checked us out and ordered us a taxi). Fortunately I booked a superior room and it had a stupendous view of the valley below. The hotel is right on the edge of the cliff. The hotel is an old palace so it has its quirks but the room was big and the balcony huge. There was a safe and a small frig and tea kettle. The price was pretty good but it was off season. Not a big deal given the room we had and it was the weekend but the main square of town right outside the front door is in the midst of major construction so it could be loud on weekdays depending on the room. This project looks like it has a long way to go... Thumbs up.

Our room was nicely decorated, yet a little on the old side. Felt convent-like, especially due to the picture of the Virgin Mary behind the bed. The kicker though was the large roach, which I watched scurry across our bathroom floor one night. Wifi was a little spotty, but that seems to be par for the course in the hotels I visited in Andalusia. Breakfast, which costs ~30 eur/two people was good, and includes fruits, meats, tea, and coffee, but it was by far the most expensive meal we had in Arcos de la Frontera. I'd recommend having breakfast only once, so you can enjoy the view from the restaurant windows of the valley below.

It is nearly impassable to get there; we had to back up a small side street. Not fun. Just park at the underground garage--take a taxi or the fabulous shuttle bus which regularly runs on the monumental route--a bargain for less than one euro. And you get to watch a pro manuever through the narrow streets--a lot more relaxing! But, it is fun to sit on your own balcony and enjoy tne remarkable sunset. Breakfast is prepared to order, which is a refreshing change from the self-service buffets of other hotels. My only real complaint is that the wifi is not strong enough to much. Couldn't book our next stay, using their weak connection. Oh, and on the way out, please consider buying cookies from the nuns in tne convent next door! I am sure they will pray for you, if you make a small free will donation.

Ok if you cheap out, honestly, you get this view from the major scenic point in Arcos, and if you were to take your morning breakfast off the hotel's terrace (recommended). My tip: 1. If you rented a largish car, you are going to be very squeamish driving into the Old Quarter. You better copy the locals and pullin your mirrors, look at everyone's scrapes on the mirrors to amuse yourself when you walk around town. 2. To get to the hotel's recommended parking, the Plaza del Cabildo has no signs. So drive into the Old Quarter, and as soon as you go thru the 1st arch (of the major church), take the immediate right and you suddenly will be rewarded into a small parking lot. If you pass the 2nd arch, you've gone to far and you better immediately follow the signs to exit town.. or risk getting yourself stuck in a tight driving situation w/ a million point turn in tiny streets full of locally parked cars. 3. Don't pay for a ticket from the machine in the lot (limited to a few hrs). Go to the hotel directly and get a parking pass to display in the car window, which you will pay a much discounted rate at the hotel upon checkout.

The rooms we OK. Comfort and cleanliness for sure, but a bit smaller than I expected and the WiFi wasnt that great. When traveling Europe for as long as we are, connection is a must. None the less, it was a perfect place to stay. The breakfast included was just right. The town of Arcos has alot to offer and the cathedral on the hillside is breathtaking. The atmosphere and location were beyond my expectations. We could walk just a few meters to the main church and all the restaurants. The room was spacious and the bathroom was clean and luxurious. He beds were comfortable and the temperature in the room was perfect. The sitting area on the first floor is amazingly inviting and there were chestnuts sitting by a fire in the fireplace at night. We sat and talked and could see the beautiful sights of the city below through the windows.
