This whole place felt so familiar as it is reminiscent of many public markets in the Philippines. Everything is sectioned off - religious relics on adjacent aisles, shoes and clothing in another area, some eateries serving hot food (how they can stand this being inside and hot is still beyond me), then the very many fruit vendors. You have to option of buying and prepping the yourself, or you can get 'em peeled and sliced and ready to eat. I also saw plenty of kibi vendors (which, I regret to say, I didn't get to try.) I left empty handed, but it was an experience just simply walking through. I'd return even if it's just to try a street kibi!

They're popular - most of the tables were occupied when we stopped by. Given the climate and heat and humidity, it totally made sense. The in-laws enjoyed their sweet and cold treats for sure. The staff were very nice not just to us but to all their guests, making sure everyone got what they needed. They also got everyone's goodies out fast, so the wait wasn't bad at all. It's located in the city center, so it is expected for some street vendors walking around making attempts to sell you some of their products. We took a liking to two of them: I bought a small coin pouch from a little boy, and Hubbers went for a day city tour (review to come later.) I asked for a orange soda and water and went for the huevos motulenos. I'm glad they asked if I wanted it with scrambled eggs because I really wanted sunny side up/over easy. (I guess a normal order came with scrambled eggs.) Hubbers went for panuchos (which came in 3's.) We were curious about the caldo Nicte Ha, and was told it's turkey soup. I think we may have miscommunicated, because our server put in an order when we didn't intend to. No biggie, we took it anyway. Nothing big to report, it gave off a very light essence of turkey flavor, but otherwise, that was it. Side of fried tortilla and marinated red onions did a little, but nothing significant. Apart from the peas (not a fan - I separated every single one out and placed them all in Hubbers' plate), huevos motulenos looked great. Egg was cooked perfectly. The shredded cheese added a lightly salt taste, the ham and sauce were average at best. The fried plantains served as good palate cleansers. It wasn't bad, but okay at best. FOOD: 3.5. SERVICE: 4.
