We were really excited to come here, but it turned out to be just OK. I am a little bit confused by all of the good reviews.
First of all, the logistics are just weird. There's the front room where people stand around eating tapas, and then there's the back room where you can actually sit down and eat dinner. They won't take any reservations for the back room until 9 PM, but when we got there on time for our reservation there were already people sitting back there eating. This is despite us having been told on a prior night that nobody could be seated prior to nine. I guess there is some kind of miscommunication but I'm pretty fluent in Spanish and it was not due to a language issue.
Second, even though we had a reservation, they sat us at probably the worst table, right next to a corridor across from the service bar, and there were people kind of brushing into us all night long.
Third, the food was just okay. We actually sat and stared at the menu for quite a while because everything seemed really basic. Like we'd already had an excellent version of it at another place and/or it just didn't sound good. We ended up getting a bunch of different things that are common at touristy Madrid restaurants, and they were uniformly not the best version of the dish that we had on the trip. For example, the cod fritters reminded me irresistibly of Jack-in-the-Box jalapeño poppers in both appearance and texture (JITB poppers actually have a nicer flavor profile IMHO).
Anyway, I'd probably skip this place. If you happen to be in the neighborhood and you can get in easily, it won't be a terrible meal, but it just wasn't that great read more
