Since it's so close by, we go to La Catrina every now and then. This past time wasn't great, the food was okay/subpar and the service has been better. We visited on a Wednesday night, were promptly seated on the patio. We ordered two drinks, La Catrina platter, and the taco platter. It was busy for a Wednesday night, so we waited a while before our food or drinks came. In fact, we got the Catrina platter and finished it and waited a while before even getting our drinks! Don't know about you, but I prefer having a drink to start! Comments on the food: - La Catrina platter: on the menu it states that you'll get pico de Gallo, corn and cheese thing, and ceviche. -- We got the pico de Gallo and corn and cheese dish, guacamole and black beans. -- To be honest, these black beans were terrible and we were really expecting ceviche. When it was served, we asked where the ceviche was and the server (not our main waiter) just said "we don't have ceviche" and left. I wish we were told this when we ordered because we wouldn't have ordered it. The black beans tasted like they were just poured out of a can and combined with onion. Truly inedible. If you want good black beans go to La Tamalera, they're amazing! -- The pico de Gallo and guacamole was good, but the platter fell flat, felt like really cheap with a bunch of stuff out of cans (corn and beans). - Taco platter: 5 tacos of different flavours This was good, though we weren't a fan of the mushroom/cauliflower taco. The fried chicken and grilled shrimp were very good! Cocktails: - Americano: very fresh ginger flavours - Eastern Thyme: despite the nice ingredients, was really lacking in flavour. Service: Our waiter was polite and nice. But sometimes it felt like our food or drinks were forgotten. It took a long time for him to clear our table, so we sat with dirty dishes for like 30 minutes, he walked by and saw the dishes many times but never took them. In sum, we were not happy with our last visit. The patio is very nice, but the food was meh and the service was very slow. Also really didn't like that they weren't transparent about not having ceviche for the platter, which was a major reason for ordering it.

We visited La Catrina on St Laurent last week for supper and were pleasantly surprised by the experience! (In a good way!) We chose to sit indoors, however they also have a lovely terrasse that you can sit at if you want. I was also a huge fan of the music, if you enjoy spanish/latin music, you'll love their playlist! We ordered the guacamole with homemade tortilla chips to start and let me tell you, it was amazing. It's made fresh at your table and the portion is massive! They also have a nice bar, which we ordered the margaritas, and these I would have to say were some of the best margaritas we have ever had. They were flavourful, beautifully presented and they weren't cheap on the alcohol :). For our main, we chose three different tacos to share - the fried fish (came with 2 tacos), the fried chicken (came with two tacos) and the beef brisket (came in an order of three). Our favourites were definitely the fried chicken and the beef! The tacos were piled high with ingredients and unlike some other taco places I have been to, we were so full! So I would say three types to share between two with an app, is more than enough! They currently have happy hour specials wed and thurs nights from 5-7! So if you're looking for a spot to grab a drink and a snack, definitely recommend!

You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

Tucked away with a beautiful terrasse in the back, it's the kind of place you'd almost miss--but absolutely shouldn't. The service was fantastic from start to finish--attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling overbearing. The food was equally impressive. Everything we tried was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, with portions that are just right. The beef and mushroom tartare was a standout--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced--and the braised lamb cavatelli was simply outstanding. The lemon tiramisu for dessert was the best ive ever had. Overall, a fantastic experience. Can't wait to come back!
