We were fortunate to get a table without a reservation on a Sunday (when many restaurants are closed) for lunch, by arriving at noon. I loved everything about the meal: friendly service, plenty of menu options, delicious food (by high foodie standards) and great value (21 Euro three-course menu). The 6 Euro house red wine was even good. The chocolate plate was especially wonderful, with an intensely chocolate ice cream and three other chocolate delights. Our one small complaint was that item descriptions were sometimes a bit misleading. Fish with "shrimp sauce" had no discernible shrimp and lobster with "curry" sauce didn't seem to have anything I'd associate with curry; both had a nice, light butter sauce. A creme brulee that mentioned bourbon had no such flavor. But this is a minor quibble, as all of these items were delicious!

So often we hear in the states that the French are arrogant and pretentious. I've found that to…read moremostly be false, until this afternoon... I was very much looking forward to dining here but the restaurant canceled our reservation just a couple of hours before we were supposed to dine. When we arrived, on time, we were turned away. Apparently confirming the reservation multiple times in the weeks leading up to my trip wasn't enough. During a tasting this morning at Dujac, in a cave with no service, I missed one final email confirmation. Because I guess three wasn't enough. God forbid people keep their phones away and actually live in the moment. There were empty tables when we arrived so this was clearly a matter of them simply not wanting to serve us before they closed for the day. Unfortunately I have zero desire to return and give them a second chance to redeem themselves. I hope this stain serves as a reminder that people are human and should be shown grace. I've spent two decades working in the food and beverage world. Many of those years in a restaurant. If one of my employees pulled something like this there would be swift action taken and we'd be inviting the guests back for a free meal. We ended up across the street at Brasserie Le Belena. Where we had no reservation and they were filled to the brim. Nonetheless they welcomed up and sat us quickly. We had an exceptional lunch and we are very grateful they accommodated us. I'll be leaving them a nice 5 star review after this. I'd suggest literally any other restaurant in town at this point.

They seated us and the servers only came by our table to drop off our food. We had to get up to request a second glass of wine which never came. However they put it on our bill. Caveau is Definitely one of the best restaurants in Beaune-ville. Delicious food, excellent…read moreservice, and romantically set in a old wine cellar with good lighting. We had: Six Burgundy snails with garlic and hazelnuts, Beef Bourguignon, Chicken breast with cream sauce, pouched eggs in bourguignon sauce, creme brulee and Creme de cassis 'bread' with raspberry sorbet. With 2013 Chablis and 2011 Monthelie Cuvée Miss Armande. Definitely order the 2011 Monthelie. As our tour guide told us earlier: Monthelie is the affordable delicious everyday wine. Best Burgundy snails ever! Delicious garlicky hazelnut blend with butter and olive oil. Juicy, meaty snails. I don't know where they get their snails but the snails were amazing! And that Beef bourguignon! OMG! Tasted like it was braised for hours. So tender, it tasted of onions, red wine, it was perfectly seasoned. Creme Brulee was solid. Perfect caramelized crust. And the almond flake that adorned the dessert was a like a slice of a great almond horn. The bread was a blackcurrant cake that fluffy, like a marshmallow mated with a souffle. So good. Excellent service, albeit a little pushy.
