Stopped for a rest on a long interstate drive to stretch our legs at the mini-golf next door who recommended this restaurant for our dinner break. We loved it. A local chain spun off of another local chain, this brand has a substantial presence through most of North Carolina. Their Hope Mills outlet is a large freestanding building across from the local theater - a tough place to be right now. Their indoor seating is set up with alternating tables blocked off for social distancing. They have a decent selection of vegetarian combos. Mine appeared almost instantaneously after I ordered it, and included a quesadilla as well as the pictured enchilada, beans, and salad. The beans were finely pureed, the salad crisp, and the tortilla chips warm (they brought us a second basket before we'd even finished the first). It wasn't anything fancy and didn't have a ton of interesting regional cuisine or home-spun charm, but it delivered what I'd hoped: basic Mexican that I could eat. THE go-to for delicious, well prepared food, enthusiastic and responsive service, and a great atmosphere for family dinner OR date night. I've been working on a draft review for La Cocina for months, but haven't felt as though my words would do this place sufficient justice. I've had lunch here, dinner here; as a party of 2 and up to a party of 8; during slow times and during weekend dinner rush. I've sampled from across the extensive menu, and been served by many of the servers. My observation is this: the people here care about giving the customer the very best. The front of house, service staff and kitchen all demonstrate passion, and it really shows in the experience. The drinks are well made, the fountain drinks are readily refilled by the service staff before you realize you need a refill. The complimentary chips are warm and crispy, the salsa house made and ample. I haven't ordered any item that was not well prepared, even if what I ordered turned out to not be to MY taste. They make a genuine effort to accommodate all parties even during a rush and give real, accurate wait estimates. I discretely timed it once: they called my phone at the 14 minute mark for a 15 minute wait, for a party of 7. Go here. Do yourself a favor and go here. My wife and I have eaten here since it opened, but the last two times, the service was poor, and of those, last night was unacceptable. In a mostly-empty restaurant with servers standing around, no one brought menus or took our drink order after almost fifteen minutes, so we left. The time before that was only slightly better, in that our server (same person both times: a man in a black ballcap with a black neck gaiter face covering) eventually got around to us, but after the food was served, never checked in again until he dropped off the check. The two stars is based entirely on past performance. The staff has been inattentive, and disinterested when you try to get their attention. They need to get a handle on their training and customer handling routines so hungry people and their money stop walking out the door. read more

We've been in Fayetteville for 3 years and tried every Mexican place in town. It took all 3 years for us to find this place. We like to judge a spot based on their chips and salsa. Usually, here, we get junk. Marinara sauce for salsa and velveeta cheese sauce on everything sums it up. But not here. They give you real salsa. Their tacos actually have flavor. And their service was great. They were around enough to get our orders and make sure we didn't need anything, but they left us alone enough to enjoy or food and our conversation. Plus they gave us a complimentary fried icecream. The restaurant was clean and not over crowded. Even the margaritas were great. 10 outta 10 I definitely recommend. read more

My family has been coming here for two years. The quality of food and service has plummeted in the last 6 months. The new menu prices are too high for the small entrees and the increase in rice and beans portions DO NOT make up the difference. This is not a family-friendly restaurant as they add automatic gratuity for large families. I do not recommend this restaurant for small entree portions, high prices, and intermittent service. The street tacos had less than a cup of protein between three tacos. The $5.75 queso comes in a small cup. That's too expensive for queso! This is our go to Mexican restaurant. There has been no disappointments in our visits, and we have been lots. Their carnitas are delicious, the chips are never ending, cheese dip is so yummy and their shrimp has just enough spice. I am once again very disappointed at the lack of service at this place. It used to be a nice restaurant to take your family and friends to, but it has gone downhill quick. I took a party of 10 to celebrate their birthday. I had reserved the table the day before. We had no silverware. We had to keep on asking for salsa and chips. We did not have our water cups refilled. To top it off, the server was nowhere to be found. My meal? I don't know. They never brought it out. Once I went to find one of the servers, and ask him about my food, his excuse was that the kid was new and didn't know what he was doing. This is the go-to Mexican restaurant for the wife and me. We have been going here pretty much weekly for years now, and I can't really recall a time we were ever disappointed in our meal or service. They have what you would expect of your typical Mexican restaurant around here, but I think they put a little more care into their food than other places. The salsa is always flavorful and thick, the meats are never grisly or overcooked, and I think they make some of the best shrimp dishes is the area. I also really like their rice and beans. Usually, rice and beans are just something that comes with the meal, but here they are always well seasoned and flavorful. They really shine with their shrimp IMO. Large, deveined, well seasoned shrimp are hard to beat and they are generous with the portions. I order lots of dishes here, depending on what I'm in the mood for. Here are some of my go-tos... Texas Fajitas: delicious and super filling.... have to loosen the belt for this one. Shrimp Cocktail, light, bright, and refreshing... great for a summer lunch. Burro de la Roquetta w/ Carnitas: savory and zesty with salsa verde and pico de gallo, great with some horchata to knock off they spiciness. The truth is it's all great, but those are a few favorites. Great food, great value, and great service. It checks all the boxes for a great eatery. *I'm also pretty sure they use real mexican-style cheeses here instead of the white american cheese that other popular places use... with the exception of the cheese dip. The quesadillas and enchiladas have a little more bite because of that, which I personally like. read more

First off I would like to say the food is amazing. Absolutely no problems in that department. The service on the other hand could have been better. My waiter was so rude, wasn't talking and laughing with us like he was with all the other tables. As soon as he came to us he had a stale face and seemed to be angry. I tip based off of services, if the service isn't good you will not get a good tip. Period! So I tipped him a small amount and he came back to the table and told me to just keep that tip. This is one of my favorite places to go. Their Texas margarita and tacos de carne asada are absolutely the best! I always ask for extra pics de gallo and cilantro and they never have a problem honoring special requests. Literally one of the BEST places to go for margaritas! In fact it's one of the only places I know of locally where you don't have to buy an extra shot because it's so awful it tastes like water. If you want a great drink, go here and ask for their Texas margarita. You get hungry while you're drinking it? Don't forget their chips and salsa but I'm warning you their queso (cheese dip) is addictive. I would know. The food was absolutely delicious however a little pricey, if I remember correctly I had originally intended on only ordering some tacos but 3 tacos and a side of rice and beans was around 10$. For 2-4 more dollars I was able to order a nice size meal for one (see photo "Fajitas Texanas" left side) which came with 3 tortillas, rice , beans, and sour cream + guacamole to put together some tacos. My wife ended up ordering "La Cocina" (right side pictured) and it was a nice portion that also came with 3 tortillas. The reason for my four star is my waitress I feel was not as attentive as other waitresses I've had at busier restaurants. I understand a waitress not being able to check up on you during busy hours however for there only being about 10 people in the restaurant I would have enjoyed a more comforting atmosphere. Other than this big thing I would've enjoyed cleaner cutlery and it could use a small facelift. If you want good Mexican in Fayetteville, I'd recommend this restaurant. read more

We were warned by others that when we moved to NC we had better just learn to cook Mexican food at home because we wouldn't find any good places to eat it in North Carolina. Well, so far they've been right and this establishment was no exception. Our whole experience wasn't terrible. The waiter was friendly and very willing to try and accommodate our requests, the food was delivered quickly and hot and drink refills were plentiful. The issue was, the tortilla chips were just something that could be purchased from a bag at the store, and according to my husband (who lived in Mexico for three years), the "salsa" tasted more like a tomato paste it was without heat, spice or flavor. He requested a hotter sauce and the waiter was more than happy to try to comply, but even the second one didn't have must flavor or heat. My son liked his chicken quesadilla. (He'll eat anything, he's a teenage boy!) I had the beef, chicken shrimp fajita combo and although it was a sizable portion, it lacked any flavor. I felt I could have made it better at home on my grill. Clean, friendly and fast service but the food left a lot to be desired.
