We are older, more laid back, and wanted to capture candid moments more than posed smiles. Scott gave us a much needed reprieve after the ceremony to do some solo shots with just my husband and myself. We were married at Houston Station, and I asked Scott mid photo shoot if we could walk down to Hemingways and get my husband a shot at the bar. Scott walked with us down to Hemingways and took some candid photos of us as were laughed and relaxed for a few stolen moments. Lane Photography was fun, kept above the family drama, and really went above and beyond to capture our unique spirit. My main concern is that the wedding photographer would be awkward, and that limits the quality of pictures. They were excellent at directing traffic, but also going unnoticed. Half way through, the older generations were calling it quits. Ally encouraged us to use the rest of the time for ourselves. Her energy makes anyone feel seen and known. I have the most magical photos from our shoot that are anything but pastel/basic. That's just not my jam. She knew what I wanted from an artistic point of view and BROUGHT it full force. They are seriously some of the most beautiful photos I have ever seen, while authentic and raw at the same time. At the last moment. Perfect....what do we need....minister....check.....car and driver....check....photographer....let me defer to the soon to be wife on that one! So, wife to be does her research and gets good ground level intel and gives Amy at And How! a call. She saw her work and heard great things about her. Wednesday is the wedding day...and she was calling on MONDAY. (I wasn't lying when I said it was at the last moment). Even though Amy had a shoot booked for that day, she so kindly rearranged things a little and, BAM, we got ourselves a photographer. Wife to be had several ideas of locations, shots, and even examples of what she wanted. Amy loved all of that and there was a lot of back and forth between the two to come up with some great locations. On the big day, Amy was right on time and ready to go. We had a blast with her as we drove to a bunch of different locations throughout Nashville. She had some great ideas, and between her and my wife, we really ended up with a ton of amazing pictures. I did a Google search and found Leslie Wilkes Photography. About three days later, I was in his one-on-one training session, learning more than I even thought possible for a four hour beginner's class. I now know how to use my camera and tips and tricks for taking great photos. I even received a binder of the course content, so not to forget anything. Leslie's class was well worth the time and money and I plan to take additional courses in the future.

Then I paid a pretty penny for a pretty neat DSLR Nikon. I spent more time trying to get comfortable with my camera and just getting a feel for the settings, buttons, and shooting with it. I took some decent images out in the park and around town. But I felt I could definitely use an in-person one-on-one tutorial on both my camera and photography basics/ best practices. Finding Leslie was truly the best thing that could have happened in my photography journey so far. It was super easy to pay and schedule a session with him online via his website. His communication prior to our meeting was super responsive, and let me tell you, I learned more in our 4 hour one-on-one than I did in the ENTIRE month on my own since I've had my camera. He was down to earth, easy to talk with, super encouraging, and his knowledge of photography is unmatched. His photography work also matches his knowledge, and it was refreshing to know that he still actively shoots as well. He even put together a workbook too that he goes over with you and you can take home as well. I love to read and study, so I really appreciated that. I'm a beginner, but I'm sure I will be contacting Leslie many times in the future for more advanced sessions as my photography and editing skills improve.
