Amazing place to work out - weight training, cardio machines, pool, courts, are all fantastic. Additionally, customer service from staff has also always been exceptional. I no longer live in Barrie, but whenever I'm back to visit for the holidays I return for the duration, which is easy because management are always receptive to my circumstances. It's a cool gym, the workers are very chill and nice. The gym is a very good place. Clean facilities and a big variety.

Poor management at this location (Barrie Park Place) , fire today and gym closed - no notification to members nothing! personal trainer not getting paid but committed to stand outside and let members know out of courtesy. Cleaning staff pretty much gone. Personal trainers being forced to not allow members a new training book (like probably a 1$ so made my own) and not allowing sessions to accumulate (some of us go away for months). If it was not for the excellent personal trainer I would be elsewhere read more

Best gyms I've been to in a long time, and that's the honest truth. The facility is clean and well taken care of, the staff are wonderful people who are always polite and considerate to the members. The managing staff are on top of things at this gym, they're always prompt in the maintenance of the equipment, and keeping things clean and stocked up ! Look, the truth is, you have to be mindful when reading reviews about the people writing them. The people who've put poor reviews all have 1 thing in common, they all QUIT! They where motivated for all of 5 days then gave up. And that's just the type of people who write poor reviews about a place they failed at, their egos were hurt and so they lash out in the only way they know how, behind a screen from the comfort of their couch, with one hand on the phone and the other deep in a bag of Doritos. Attention: Consumer Affairs CC LA Fitness Corporate and Park Place Barrie Bcc BBB, CTV Pat Foren To whom it may concern, I called LA Fitness as I was a member pre-Covid and wanted to see if I could come in one day to try the facilities to see if I would be comfortable coming back. I was offered a ten-day free trial membership over the phone by Ash at the Park Place Barrie Location. I was not advised a membership, or any charges would be applied. He just said come on in and try it out and if you want to join back, we can sit down and I can sign you back up. I couples days later I had a health issue that prevented me from going to the gym at all. A month later I notice all these charges applied for membership and activation fees. I called Ash who said he could not help me and advised I speak with head office. I spoke with Michael who would not refund these fees and only offered to give me $50 dollars back. I told him about my health issue and that I never set foot in the facility and was advised that unless I gave a doctor's note stating that I was permanently disabled I would get no refund. I have not been to this gym in over 18 months, and they basically took over $200 dollars from me over the phone without having me sign a contract or rendering any services. I feel very let down by this company and taken advantage of especially since I was a previous long time and loyal client. I am reaching out to Consumer Affairs and the BBB as well as media to share this experience as I feel people need to be made aware of these unethical practices being carried out by these large gym corporations. Especially when people are already struggling with covid and financial issues. It is not a lot of money for me personally, but it is the principal and not good business practice. Incredibly pushy trainers, I lasted 10 days before I quit. The final straw was after telling them I didn't want a trainer, a trainer calls and tries to push me into a training session with himself. the kicker is he used his own cell phone which meant they don't care about client confidentiality there. The trainer also told me he didn't want to see me waste my money so I should go and train with him. I'm now looking at other gyms and will not recommend this place. BEWARE CAUTION.... I was at this club yesterday. I went to a piece of equipment that was free, no one was anywhere near the apparatus. Along came a muscle head named Bernie, who confronted me and told me to get off the equipment. I said no one was here and he pushed me. He then threatened me and told me to lift the two 45 lb weights and put them back for him. he chased me after I refused and tried to punch me. I told the manager who did nothing. He said he would talk to him as he knew him. So as I understand it. You are allowed to be manhandled, pushed and threatened here and nothing will be done. read more

Just say no to LA fitness. They have terrible customer service and only care to collect your money for the business. As a customer and doing the right thing you are worthless. Any discrepancies are at your fault, memberships are hard to cancel. I canceled my membership face to face with someone but there turned out to be no record of it. 2 years later I found out I'm still being billed for personal training. They talk to you like you don't matter.... "sorry you just ate 5000$ would you like some training sessions" stay away from these places and boycott. Spread the word. No no no! read more

If you have gone to many gyms you will find people trying yo push you into programs and training that you might need or not need. Both John Taylor and Dane Colwell at the south Barrie location are very professional. They try very hard to meet the needs and wants of their clients. Both are very personable and knowledgeable about training options and they do sit and discuss the many various possibilities that are available. I have seen them walk around the gym explaining the equipment different work areas gym hours and trainer availability. In todays world where people are ready to quickly criticize others than give a more positive outlook these two gentlemen do give a positive energy to the Barrie South location. AWFUL experience. I have seen a dramatic decline in the quality of maintenance to equipment and change rooms at this LA FITNESS. Disgusting. !!!BE WARNED !!! The staff is ONLY there to sell YOU personal training- which they will try to do A LOT while you're working out!!!! At least once a week (sometimes more) they will interrupt your workout, be nice (the only time they are nice is when they want u to buy something from them FYI) and then give you a sales pitch for personal training- all during the MIDDLE of your gym session. Plus, they make it incredibly hard for you to get out of the contract you signed that they claimed " you can get out of ANYTIME." Avoid this gym at all cost. read more

One star as its a new building but it ends there. Be very careful joining here as its difficult to get them to end your membership. Looks like I will be filing a BBB claim to deal with the slimy way they do business. Google them and you will see NY State had to get involved on US members behalf to settle the way they do business. Not enough bench presses so you wait a lot for equipment. Also if you like waiting for equipment while some dufus stares into their phone this is the place for you. read more

I choose this gym because it was the most reasonably priced and closest to my house. The gym equipment is good. Unfortunately the facility is usually quite dirty (floors, etc) Also, the staff are generally unhelpful and not knowledgable. Multiple times I have asked the staff at the front desk how long an exercise class is, etc, and they typically give the wrong answer. The personal trainers are generally annoying and tend to walk around aimlessly and gawk at people working out. Also, I was annoyed that I referred 3 sepearte people who joined and despite their many posters advertising rewards for people who recommend friends, I was told there were "no rewards left". Overall it's fine if you get in and get out to workout. read more

Terrible management. Permanently cold pool, temporary not working jacuzzi. A lot of customers ask to fix that. Result - zero!

Poor management. Dirty smelly change rooms. Paper towel holders are often empty so customers cant wipe machines down. Good luck getting help from anyone regarding equipment. Staff is only there for selling memberships and personal training. read more

SCAM!!! The gym was nice, really liked it, so I signed up for training. I made it clear that I had some sports injuries and was currently in physio and didn't want a full contract. Was told numerous times that I could cancel at anytime, no problem! Went through contract with B and he explained every section thoroughly, again saying yes, you can cancel at anytime. I wanted to make sure of this. Well, my injuries got worse and I needed to stop. So..first my paperwork was lost, then I needed a Dr's note, then it got lost again (as they continue to charge me $180 per month) then I was told I had to deal with head office in California. They then told me I couldn't cancel and I had to buy my contract out. There is 1 sentence in the contract that they don't show you when explaining it and then they lie to you about it! So in short, I was directly lied to by Barrie LA fitness, they flat out scammed me. If you google LA fitness, you will see how common this scam is and how people can't get out of their memberships. Makes me so sad that these business practices are happening in Barrie. You can join, but it will be a nightmare to get out! Just google LA fitness and you will see that they have a class action suit against them for this exact scam. They sure got me :( read more
