I think this is the only La Fitness in Delaware... I'm not sure, I might be wrong. It's newly built (July 2018), so everything I still pretty clean and nicely kept. It's small but has all the necessities... free weights, cardio equipment, cycle room, pool, basketball court, studio room, a kids sitter area, and a personal training area. I came around 6PM and it wasn't too packed. The basketball court definitely gets packed, though. Parking is good. There's one right outside the gym but an adjacent one from the shopping area. I am extremely disappointed with how my membership issue was handled. I was originally told that I would be able to transfer my membership, but that never happened. As a result, I am now being billed for two memberships, and the only solution offered has been for me to spend even more money. What is most concerning is that the manager's notes regarding my situation were inaccurate and did not reflect what actually occurred. During my conversations with staff, it was acknowledged that there have been ongoing concerns and complaints regarding this manager's practices, and it appears my experience is not an isolated incident. While the organization recognized that mistakes were made, they have been unwilling to take meaningful steps to correct them. I understand that errors happen, but accountability and customer service should follow. Unfortunately, I have been left paying for a problem that was created by misinformation and poor management. I hope the company takes a closer look at these issues and works to improve how customers are treated when legitimate concerns are raised. read more

Charles was at the desk when we arrived and he helped me and my granddaughter to get a few day passes for her since I live in New York and she's out here in Delaware. He wants this place and he wants a very good house here. It's clean. It's area spaces. It's all on one floor. It's not like the LA fitness in New York. It's not a lot of people here. It's early in the afternoon around 252 so the crowd level is low and it's really beautiful here. Some of the machines are different but they're basically the same and I like it. When they say they have a pool, they mean that they have a pool with no reliability or control over when it is open. Because it's a third party, they claim they cannot dictate or even ASK when a lifeguard (a teenager on their phone) will be taking a break, so you must come to the gym yourself to hear that said teenager has been gone for an hour and nobody knows when they'll be back. If it thunders or lightnings, the INDOOR pool is closed..I've heard 30, 45, and 60 min so it's not closed based on any regulations and certainly not based on outdoor pool standards with those times. It's so poorly run, and the attitude continues to just be CYA when it comes to anyone working there. I've been to many LA Fitness Clubs, and it is ONLY at the Bear club that this happens. Don't recommend this gym if you're looking for a reliable pool or good customer service.. read more

Very friendly staff and equipment was well kept. I wish this location had a sauna, but the pool and basketball area are very nice and always in use. Also a nice community and people in various different stages in their lifting journeys. read more

This is the worst Gym ever! Do not sign-up. First of all, their communication is awful. I signed up long before the opened. Hard lesson learned...don't every sign up before a gym opens! The pool is small, shallow and very cold. The cardio equipment is cheap. The gym isn't maintained. There is always a sink in the ladies locker room not working. Half the time they don't scan you in because they aren't paying attention. Then the pipes burst at Thanksgiving and there was no email to the members. A small sign was posted on the front door with an ever shifting reopening date. They have been closed for weeks and won't even allow you to cancel your membership without paying the $99 cancelation fee even though the next closest LA fitness is 30 minutes away. I joined LA Fitness with my husband. We love it !! I am especially fond of the ZUMBA classes that are lead by Tamara Williams!!! She is energetic, fun and an excellent teacher!! Whatever you do - DON'T join this gym! They only care about your money ! The managers will lie to you about contracts . My son moved 60 miles away and they are making him pay out his contract even though he personally went in and dropped off a letter to cancel and speak to the manager. La Quan said he was the only manager there (the first of many lies ) , assured us he would call back (he never did ), and also said he would try and help us with all the money he had been paying for a contract that was supposed to be null / void once he moved . They have to be the shadiest gym around ! My son is out $4,200 because of how they directed and lied about the contract . DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A PERSONAL TRAINING - they will 'sell' you lies . I went in with a friend just for a week pass, and then canceled immediately the next day. Then got a confirmation email thanking me for joining, which was not the case. So I called up, and the gentleman who answered the phone said there was nothing he could do until the manager arrived, I said there's got to me more to it than that. Dude literally threatened me, said I don't know where he's from? THIS HAPPENED TODAY. So he threatened me because I wanted to confirm my cancellation email. The definition of bringing your baggage to work. Highly recommend Retro Fitness, the sales associates are much kinder. The sale employees at LA Fitness are kind of like Globogym in the movie dodge ball. Ryan, the manager, was a pleasure to deal with, I'm sure he would have been disappointed today. Huge fan of LA fitness, this gym has to be one of the most cleanest and aesthetically pleasing ones I've been too. I will say it is a bit smaller than your average YMCA, or Retro Fitness but there are many pros that outbalance this small con! During the morning it's never packed which is great because you get a good workout in without having to wait , during the evening like 4-6 it gets pretty packed but around 7-after it dies down. The staff is always friendly, the bathrooms and locker rooms are always clean, the lifting area is pretty roomy and open so your not super close to anyone even though it's a small gym their setup is pretty nic I'm hoping they open more LA fitness in Delaware it's such a great gym ! Hoping if they do open another that it's just a tad bigger. Overall, a great gym !! read more

It's pretty nice here. The equipment is new and everything is clean. The biggest benefit is avoiding all the planet fitness cliches. However, today I watched a guy that works here step right over a barbell someone left far away from where it goes in the middle of a walkway. read more

wish I could give 0. not only that most treadmills and ellipticals belts are loose and tv only have 3 - 4 worthless channels but they are very scammy. first there are no phone numbers to talk to anyone higher up only an email that they don't reply to but on top of that they don't honor what they literally put in your contract. when I signed up there was an early cancellation option for $99 and when I actually tried to cancel (only option over mail) it took them 3 weeks to email me back saying they will cancel at the end of my original term. I'm going to fight this and take it as far as I can. just want to warn people how terrible they are please don't join their scam read more

Nice atmosphere! Staff was friendly and helpful. I'm not from this area and they made me feel right at home. Basketball court is small but that universal for most of the LA fitness franchise. If I'm ever back in the area I will definitely be coming back to this gym. read more

I love this gym and it's included ameties. The price may be a little steep for some people when you include the first months last month's, initiation fee, annual fee, and 12 year contract. But I'm okay with it because it prevents the gym from being over crowded. On that note, you can't use other people's membership or sneak people in because they have a person check you in and they have a photo. I'm cool with that too, there's more space to workout without people bringing all their little buddies. You buy what you pay for. read more

Joined LA Fitness with my boyfriend and we love it. The atmosphere is very comfortable, the staff are nice and don't mind answering any question you may have. The equipment is great and they have everything we need for our targeted workouts. Only down side is, I miss going to a gym that has a nutrition bar. Having a protein drink freshly made after a good workout would be great lol. I still highly recommend this gym! read more

So I went to this location yesterday and this so called acting manager tries to intimidate me with his sales tactics, I told him I'm not interested to sign up and that I just wanted to use the guest pass. He replies cool and tells me we have this Netflix trial free plan where it's 0 down for 12 days then it charges your cc. I told him I'm only interested in the guest pass and then claims I've used it multiple times,which I never did. Then goes dude only way is if you have a cc to come in. read more

This place ONLY cares about money, they don't care about you or your fitness goals. I tried to get info and try out the gym before signing up because I was very adamant about trying out the machines and the atmosphere before spending the initiation fee and signing my life away. I saw the no risk 5-day free trial online and was hoping to sign up for that when I went in yesterday. Instead, I was lead to a bunch of desks (about 1/4 of their gym is desks for new member consults - shows again how much they only care about money) and proceeded to have an infuriating, terrible experience. Mind you, I had toured a few months back and had a similar intrusive experience (not to mention they DID NOT leave me alone after I gave my phone number that time, even after saying I'd reach out if I wanted to follow up. they will call you everyday). This time, The staff member (blonde hair, forget her name) started to get sassy and was also extremely pushy to the point that it made me uncomfortable. I kept explaining I was there to try before I buy but she made it sound like that wasn't an option. I would never put $150 down for something I wasn't sure about. In the midst of her rambling about nothingness I pulled up the webpage on my phone where it specifically talks about the 5 day free trial and showed her, and it immediately shut her down because she was caught in a lie about it not being an option. At that point (about a half hour later) I was SO turned off I almost left, but I figured at this point I might as well workout since I wasted so much time to get there. Long story short, I hated the cardio equipment - they dont have arc trainers, the machines wobble and they have no incline on elliptical. I don't think I'd sign up for this gym even if it was free after my experience here. Stay away. read more

My review is regarding the Manager (Ryan S.) who spoke to me and processed my membership. He told me about the initiation fee and my lock-in $14.99 monthly fee. I received an email later that night stating I'd be charged $49.95 in two months as an annual fee. I went back and saw Ryan S. leaving the building. He asked how I was doing, I said annoyed. I told him he never mentioned the annual fee and, in fact, told me after my signing up, I'd only be charged $14.99 starting the next month. I told him I wanted the annual fee waived since he didn't tell me about it. He told me to go inside and speak to the front desk person and if they couldn't waive the fee to come see him on Monday (this was a Saturday). Front desk said they don't do anything with sales and I needed to talk with Ryan S. So, Monday, I go back in and talk with Ryan S. He explains every gym has an annual fee and ever member pays it. I asked that he waive it since he didn't tell me about it. It said it couldn't be waived. I asked to speak a Manager, he said he was the General Manager. He apologized and offered to refund me what I paid when I signed up. I didn't cancel the membership because I need the Aqua Fit classes (I'm a disabled veteran with chronic joint pain and am unable to do exercises that cause impact on my joints). I asked again for the fee to be waived. He apologized and said he couldn't do it. I asked if he knew that upfront, why did he tell me to talk to the front desk and if they couldn't help me to come see him again. He said he wanted to fully explain the pricing to me. I told him he should have done that when he was explaining fees prior to my signing up. He agreed and apologized again. I told him what he did wasn't right and that he should be honest with people. I had an assessment scheduled with a trainer on Feb. 4th. Despite my explaining my disability, the guy was hell bent on signing me up for a personal trainer. Of course, there was a pricing special going on this day. Of course, I'd have all the help I need. AND, I'd even get a notebook to log all my activity. I felt like I was listening to an infomercial. Once I told him my purpose for joining was the Aqua Fit class, and hopefully moving up to being able to do Zumba group fitness, he didn't have much else to say. I agree with the other reviews that the sales people are solely focused on money, which actually is their job. However, I think the Manager needs to be honest with people, and the trainers need to listen to the limitations and challenges people have and explain to them versus simply trying to force a sale. Regarding the gym, itself, it's clean and the environment is pleasing to walk into. read more

I have been going here since September...of course there are pros and cons anywhere you go...but this is not one of those reviews...I want to say the my Zumba instructor Danielle Louis is amazing...I have been to a lot of classes around the tristate area and she is by far one of the top three...she is #1 at your facility...she is always upbeat and pleasant. She works your buns off literally...but does it in a way it doesn't feel like a workout...having Danielle there as an instructor is a true assets to LA Fitness. As long as she's there, I will be there! read more
