Was visiting my family for the week and decided to go with a day pass here. Overall decent experience, but nothing out of the ordinary. Friendly staff that processed my guest paperwork efficiently, machines were kept well maintained, and I went in during off hours so I didn't really have to wait around for machines. They have a wide array of cardio machines, so I was able to knock out my hour cardio on the treadmill too. Facilities were fairly clean and plenty of parking. The only complaint would be their snacks and drinks that are a bit over priced, I'd bring my own protein/snacks for pre or post workout. Overall a decent gym that got my session needs without any issue. Will continue to be back here as my gym of choice whenever I'm back in town. read more

Pro: I got my membership to the Brick location for 30$ a month with no renewal fee. Large gym with few times I had to wait for equipment. Has a pool, sauna, basketball court, yoga room, cycle room and more. Cons: The issues I have with the facility is cleanliness even though someone mops I always see trash on the floor. The color of the hot tub makes it inviting, and no swimsuit dryer. Classes are not the most challenging and when applying I wanted to do a free day and got charged with a membership until I called and got it taken care of. Also center of the room for trainers is cool, but the space could be used better. With only 2 mats in the corner of the building they have no space for abs besides a hardwood floor in the yoga room where it is apparently okay for shirtless guys to bring lights and conduct a photo shoot? read more

So far so good. The girls working the Kids-Klub are so sweet to my two year old daughter. The girls are fantastic! Although there are 3 so far that we've met I can only remember the name of one girl since I've seen her twice (Jazmin). All three are equally sweet & feel like they care about the kids in their care. They all know the kids by name & talk to them so kindly. The gym itself is clean, staff is nice & the bathroom/locker rooms are also clean. I've only been a member for a couple weeks but so far I have nothing bad to report. The kindness the girls at child-care (Kids-Klub) show my daughter is the most important part of my membership & I couldn't be happier. The worst customer service! I was a customer Since 2017 and Attended two branches the one in Howell NJ and one in Brick, NJ. And there is a huge difference in everything between these two branches. The one in Brick is ok and the gym is clean, smiley faces at the reception and helpful personnel. As per Howell location: bad management, poor customer service ( never smiled or greeted people since opened up), dirty equipment and locker rooms. I was forced to cancel my membership even though I had a great experience with other branches of LA fitness because of having had a terrible experience talking today to the manager of Howell branch ( many many complaints from other people as well). As you can see in the picture my account was on hold since Feb 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And they started to charge again for the membership in September. The manager refused to refund me the money for September when I said I'd wish not to attend the gym during these days as I only visited gym for the spa and pool as it was needed to help solve my back issues. After a long unpleasant conversation I had to give up and was forced to cancel my membership by such a poor customer service and management. Charged me twice this months ! HA! The Brick, NJ facility opened at the beginning of 2019, and everyone is friendly and helpful. Staff as well as members. The gym is not overly crowded, but was when another one closed due to renovations (which is understandable). The Toms River, NJ facility opened at the end of 2019, and it is a little different. Some new machines that Brick does not have, and the staff seemed pretty friendly. I am interested to see what the HIIT and Pilates memberships will be like. My boyfriend and I have been members since June 2018, and enjoy going. The corporate office has been helpful when I have had to call them, too. I was a bit disappointed with the Howell, NJ facility because they do not have a hot tub or sauna. The Toms River facility doesn't, either, but they made up for it with the types of classes that they will be offering. Of the 3 facilities, I think that the Brick facility is the best one. The memberships aren't expensive compared to other gyms around and you get more for your money at LA Fitness then with many of the other gyms. read more

Good news is you'll get plenty of cardio in just from walking around looking for a dumbbell or cable attachment. NOTHING is where it's supposed to be. BRING A COAT. It's freezing in this place and the fans are on full speed blowing cold air down on your neck and back. If you mention it to the staff they'll just lie to you and say that they're on a timer and can't shut them off. Good luck trying to work up a sweat. If you plan on coming in on Saturday or Sunday, bring your own paper towels. All of the dispensers are empty and there no sight of housekeeping on the weekends. Place not clean - in fact dirty!! Dust balls, hair and filth. I was at Gold's Gym for 7 years and have exercised in other places such as NY and Florida, this one is by far the dirtiest. Had to make a Yelp account just for this, the fact they charge $40 a month for this place should be illegal the only reason I'm still here is bc I got a deal. It was nice when it first opened, but whatever happened since then should be in a textbook for exactly what not to do with a business lol. The gym itself is super messy with equipment everywhere, and half of the machines not working. The bathrooms are the same, garbage and paper towels all over the place, half the sinks don't work, broken tp dispensers taped up, etc. This isn't anything crazy but for $40 a month you'd expect for the place to at least be clean. Over the years I've been to a decent amount of gyms in this area and this one is honestly the worst out of all of them. If you're thinking of getting a membership here I'd 110% recommend saving your money and going somewhere, really anywhere, else. Absolute worst gym. No organization and no maintenance or upkeep. Not even soap in the bathroom dispenser 90% of the time. No clips and always looking for equipment. Gym is a disappointment, staff is very rude & arrogant, girls @ front desk on their cell phones, not helpful... for initial welcoming this staff is just taking up space. Answering inquires is impossible. Class schedules are limited. Zumba so late at night with only 1 each day, have kids, forget it. It's 5:45 or 7 pm. Just not possible... it's not just me but other Mom's with families. Signup very misleading. Was promised a Personal Training Session , only got an Eval & a fee schedule which was clearly stated I would receive a session to learn the gym. Never Received & asked @ least 4 times. Mike is all talk, never did anything but promote a dead end offer. I am leaving the Gym for lack of care for member. I'm Just a commission , not a person. Not one staff member is caring, helpful or thoughtful. They are always on cell phones & never leave their desks. I joined & didn't know where the bathrooms were. This gym was a good place to workout, now over the past 6 months it has been awful. The gym is dirty, moldy showers, garbage over flowing, members leaving locks on lockers for weeks. Worst than all of that members are now very loud cursing, slaming weights down hard, taking 2 to 3 peices of equipment at a time, stealing equipment, not returning weights all while management sits around looking at their phones ignoring everything. Absolutely the worst! Can't wait to cancel our membership. They have kids running this gym. Maybe for my 13 year old who wants to socialize this would work but I'm 50 yrs old and would really love to have someone who is more experienced teach me what it is I need to do to make changes for both my health and my physical appearance. When I asked to have an experienced\seasoned person show me the circuit I was told that the oldest person they had was 22 years old. I was also told that the "Director of Trainers" would show me around and he was 20. I have a problem with this. What does a 20 year old young man know about a 50 year old woman's body who had children and went through surgery's? I asked to set up an appointment where a trainer would walk me around, explain the machines and write me a program to follow, I was told they don't do that and that I need to hire one of their trainers. WHAT???? I don't need a personal trainer, what I need is a written program (what machines to use, how many reps and how much weight). EVERY other gym offers this but not LA Fitness. Brandon was the Director of Trainers that I sat and spoke with and if you heard our conversation you would think how ridiculous it was. When he said he has never heard of a program being written for a client I asked him how many other gyms has he worked at and how many has he been a member of well he looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights and then collected himself and said with confidence and authority, "I have worked for LA Fitness ALL MY LIFE". I asked him just how old he was and he said, "20". I said to him that's what I thought. Now throughout this painful conversation I advised him that I wanted to cancel mine and my daughters memberships, and every time I said this he would look at me and ask me why. I told him I was not comfortable with the way things are done and it isn't what I am looking for and again he would ask me why. Finally I said to him you are not respecting me the client, you have no right to keep questioning my reasons. There was more craziness to this conversation but I will spare you. They have a basketball court and a pool which is a positive. 1 Star If you are looking for a gym for their classes. Check their calendar for yourself. It is Yoga, Pilates, Yoga, Pilates, Yoga...take a guess what's next? They do have a solid spin room. My son is a member of the Howell NJ, L A Fitness facility. He has been a member for approximately 18 months. Back in May be asked for a Personal Trainer after speaking to a staff member. My wife went in to discuss the issue. The Representative tried to talk her into a 12 month program. She told him she would have to discuss this with me. We originally only wanted a three month program. The Rep. Made a call to someone and made another offer for a six month program. My wife was clear she only wanted a 6 month program. The Rep. said no problem and brought her a 3 page contract. This contract spelled out the original payment amount ($339.00) and 5 Additional payments of $240.00 beginning in June 2019. These payments were coming out of our checking account Automatically. The final installment should have been in October. This is where our relationship with L A Fitness went bad. Yesterday Nov. 19, 2019 another $240.00 charge came out of the account. When I spoke to the Howell NJ , L A Fitness Rel. He pointed out in A box in upper portion of page 1 a note which stated fee would continue to be charged until we cancelled. This agreement sea sent to the members email account which is my 16 year old son. This is not what my wife agreed to not what the Rep. Verbally stated the day she signed him up. I guess we should have had our Attorney review the 3 page contract before signing. To be honest the Rep. refused to refund the $240.00 charge, he offered to extend the training sessions for a month. My son enjoyed the personal training and the use of the club in general. The offer of extended training does not work for my Son due to conflicts in his High School swim practice and part time job and study schedule. I do not believe this is how a reputable organization should treat customers. I don't expect this will change the way L A Fitness does business but it may serve to caution any future customers. read more

While this gym is brand new and the equipment is very nice and clean, the personal training is non existent. The have lost all of their trainers except for 2 I believe, a master trainer and a regular one with very limited hoursand availability. Starting from the top of this company, they lost many training employees from the regional manager and down. Paying $160 a month is absurd. They basically attack you to have training sessions after your free assessment. umm, who is going to train you now??? No one!!! I was advised by one of the employees, Brianne, to just contact my credit card company and file a claim to receive a refund. The front desk workers are not friendly and act like they are being bothered when you check in. Very disappointed in this gym. The only class I've taken is Zumba, and the instructors are extremely mediocre and definitely NOT experienced. They must hore whoever applies. Their class schedule is too light for a facility like this. There are MANY other gyms in the area with basically the same prices, so do yourself a favor and skip this place, read more

I have been a member for almost a year now, we have personal trainer package. we have had the same trainer since we started , never was told the difference btw master or certified they just wanted to sell the package . We love the trainer Michael , he is leaving, so we needed to switch trainers. Problem with that is there are only 2 that have been a constant since we started, The turn over for trainers is absurd. we would like to stick with someone we have know will be there as a constant. We have asked to speak with the manager several times , always to busy, never calls back. Then we get a call from the fall guy,Mitch, telling me that they will increase my fee $100 more a month to be with the other trainer we want. That is insane to say the least, they are not willing to work with clients who are regulars in the gym this is not the first i have heard of this. The trainers don't get paid a lot either. For them to increase my fee the trainers should get a raise!! they actually talk with the clients NOT Kaleb he has no people skills. Bad for Business if you cant return a clients call for weeks at a time !! if you are from Howell stay at Golds or Retro!! Once my contract is up I will be canceling it!! would rather pay triple to a gym that works with clients then one who doesn't!! read more
