I joined about a month ago and I never even got a tour of the place. I've never even had a person greet me or say anything to me everytime I've walked through the door I belonged to the LA Fitness in West Chester PA for 3 years and I was always greeted and welcomed. I also had a tour, a fitness assessment, and had my photo taken. I understand it's COVID. But that's no reason to neglect gym members. Why stay open? Many people walk around the gym with no mask, especially upstairs in the cardio section. The whole entire place smells like cat urine, sweat, and mold. Absolutely gross. Going to cancel my membership tomorrow or Friday, and they better not give me a hard time about that! read more

Nice vibes I felt really good coming to this place. Everyone was really fit and inspiring there. I had an issue with my account and the staff was extremely patient and helpful with me. The locker room was clean and the equipment wasnt bad there was ample room to workout so thats nice. A nice plus is the discount from the juice bar down the street. So, this isn't the best LA fitness to go to if you have a gym membership for LA fitness and a car. As such, I definitely recommend going to some of the other locations instead if you can. Both the Bridgeville location and the Pleasant Hills location are more of a drive for me but it's totally worth it because they're much better gyms. The 1st thing you need to know is you can't really park that close to this particular gym a lot of the time because parking is very limited in this area and even when you do find a spot it is pay parking which is kind of a hassle. I had to pay about 3:50 for 2 hours worth which isn't too terrible but it is still a hassle you don't have to deal with at the other locations like Bridgeville and Pleasant Hills which both have *more* than enough parking space at all times. The 2nd thing to know is that they don't have central air conditioning at this location like they do at the Pleasant Hills or Bridgeville location and so they use these extremely loud big fans. Not only do these loud fans fail to effectively control the temperature at this location but the lack of air ventilation also influences the smell at this location. Again, this is probably a bigger issue in the summer but still. I personally don't really think it's a huge deal for me but it probably would be for a lot of other people. The 3rd thing you need to know is that this location doesn't have a hot tub or a pool like most of the other locations (although they do have a decent sized sauna) and they are also much more limited in the group classes that they do provide. For example, on the app this location only offers 8 classes total per week which averages out to about one class per day whereas the Bridgeville location offers 47 total classes per week and the Pleasant Hills location offers 23 classes per week so it is much easier to find classes you will enjoy at one of the other locations as opposed to this one. If you are walking distance from this location and don't have a car I could see this making sense but for most people I think it is worth driving a few more miles for a significantly better LA fitness experience. read more

Only go to this LA Fitness for the convenience. There is a list of issues and problems with this gym. Not the cleanliness. They do not stay on top of the paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, etc.. The bathrooms are always a mess. They don't have enough bars for the weight benches and racks. 90% of the mini lockers (for your keys and wallet) are not able to be used. Hands down one of the worse gyms around and that I've been too. I never write negative feedback but something needs to change. This location holds the most well deserved 5 star review. As someone who travels across the US and goes to many gyms. This one has the greatest, most fit members I've seen. The locker room and sauna area could use some improvement, mainly the miniature sauna. During the busy hours, you will almost find people sitting on each others laps, in both the women's and the men's. Equipment wise, this facility covers everything. Multiple squat racks, benches, machines, cables, and cardio equipment. If you cant find a machine to fulfill your workout in this gym, you don't belong in there. read more

Visiting from CA where I'm a member of LA Fitness. Very excited to have this option. 2 levels with all the cardio machines on the 2nd floor. Tons of machines. Every other one is shut down for now due to covid. Wish they were cleaner, especially since covid, it seems like they should have gotten a deep clean. But quality and quantity of the cardio equipment is great. Downstairs has a huge selection of weights and non-cardio machines. Wish there was also a bathroom downstairs. Appreciate that they have spray bottles you can carry around to spray down your machines. read more

I think this is the most packed gym to ever exist on the face of the planet. The equipment they have is great; they literally have anything you would need. The problem is nothing is ever open. Sometimes you have to wait in a line to use something during the busy time. I wish there was a way for them to expand this location. It is pretty insane how busy it can get. read more

I'm horrified by my experience today. It. Smelled. Awful! And here's the thing. Gyms probably naturally smell awful. But it's the staff/gyms job to not let that smell linger. Of course there's going to be sweat, B.O. and God knows what else lingering long past your work out. But I'd think it should be one of the main objectives to keep it smelling fresh, because you'd want to keep people coming in. But here's the thing. I'm paying for not only the use of the machinery, but also the actual space. Do I want to work out in a place that smells like stale B.O.? No way! I want to work out in a clean, properly air conditioned and comfortable space. None of these things are happening here right now. That brings me to my next point. Every summer the place suffers from stale and poorly ventilated air. What does that mean? It's freakin' hot in herre! I'd understand you wouldn't want to work out in an ice box. But this isn't a sauna either. It's awful and you can tell it's not supposed to that way. I'll leave you with this final fact. I hopped on the elliptical today and there was gum on the front part where you'd put your cell phone. Seriously?? That's rude for the person that did that, but rude that no one would clean that up. I'm honestly disgusted at this point. I hope they clean up their act (literally) or I may take my sweat somewhere else that does a better job masking it. read more

Joining this dump actually made me quit working out. The air conditioning system was set up for the book store that used to be in this building. Not a gym. The cardio equipment is upstairs... heat rises. It is so incredibly hot upstairs that it is impossible to work out. The bathrooms are ALWAYS out of paper towels and toilet paper. At least 50% of the time I was there I had to approach staff to restock the bathrooms and it would take them way to long to get off their behind ends and get in there to do it. You constantly had to wait for equipment. On one occasion I waited in a line 8 people deep to use a treadmill. Not to mention the sales calls!!! Several weeks after joining I was still receiving phone calls from staff trying to get me to sign up. I told them numerous times that I was already a member and they continued to call. I physically had to walk downstairs while on the phone with them and show them that I was already a member. read more

My reason for the 1 star review has to do with their cancellation policy. You cannot simply cancel your membership by accessing your account and clicking "cancel". You must print out a form and either mail it to them or stop by the gym to see the operations manager, and that's M-F from 9-5 only. The fact the they make you jump through hoops to cancel your membership is outrageous, ridiculous and a waste of time. If I was aware of this policy at the time I signed up, I would've never signed up. read more

I had a week trial here. While the facility is ok (enjoyed the sauna & loved the spin class) sales tactics are weird. Before the trial, i made the horrible mistake of giving these guys my phone number...... Don't do that foreal. They will call you 5 times a day and ask when you're coming in for the trial. The week I gave them my number was a busy week for me. I had a lot going on and in the middle of that, my best friend from high school suddenly passed away. The guy wouldn't stop calling, texting and leaving voicemails. Finally I answered and he asked when I was coming in. I mentioned I had a rough week because my friend passed away and her viewing was that night. He said that he was sorry for my loss then literally said "well viewings are usually from 5-7. Could you come down at 8 to view the place and start your free trial?" Absolutely disgusting. I can't make this up for real. Never give these people your number. They walk up and down E Carson asking people to sign up for free trial and they ask for your number. Seriously don't give it to them. They'll call you once an hour every day until 9pm. Even if the gym was phenomenal (it's not), the shitty sales tactic is horrible. I live a block from this gym. The week free trial was cool but after that I never thought of becoming a member. Enrollment fee Prices are extremely high and if they're offering "free enrollment!", they give you a higher monthly bill to make up for it. This information came straight out of the sales guys mouth when I asked about waiting until free enrollment during my week trial by the way- pictures are deceiving and pure false advertising. there is no pool, no volleyball court and no basketball court. the only thing this gym has to offer is a a 2 story work out area, classes and a sauna read more

I don't have a lot of positive things to say about this gym. First, there's nowhere to park. Whether you park on the street or in the parking garage, you have to pay. I hate paying for parking. There are double glass doors to the gym. Opening the first pair of doors greets you with a blast of black mildew smell. Opening the second set of doors hits you with the most revolting odor of body oil/human sweat you'll ever experience. It hangs in the air much like cigarette smoke in a closed room with no ventilation. The locker rooms are on the second floor. Good luck trying to negotiate the stairs to the locker room after an intense leg day session. One word - perilous. There is an elevator at the back to take to the 2nd floor. Everyone who works there and 98%+ of the clientele are below the age of 30. I've been going there for months and have never had a fellow gym goer talk to me or make eye contact with me. Everyone, including the staff, has ear buds in and isn't available for conversation. And the staff is amongst the most unfriendly group of people I've ever encountered here in Pgh. The women's locker room attendant has the disposition of a viper. I find myself planning to go to the gym at times when I assume she won't be there just so I can avoid her. A few of the shower stall lights have been burned out for months. A few of the shower drains have been clogged up with stagnant water for months. A few of the shower curtains have mildew along the bottom edge. Not surprising since there is standing water. The women's sauna is busted and not working. Often there is no toilet paper in the women's stalls. The toilet seat covers are often out too. My final complaint is stations are very difficult to utilize during peak times. There are simply too many people in the gym at one given time to ease from one station to the next. It is often during these times that there is no hot water to take a shower. read more

But this gym is so poorly managed and maintained if I had somewhere else to go with similar services I would... It's filthy around the clock, never stocked, there's been Soap dispensers, paper towel dispenser's, hand sanitizer dispenser is broken for months and never restocked or fixed, just a note on it saying repairman called... The employees sit around on their phones all day long instead of maybe grabbing a mop or cleaning some thing or stocking up locker room supplies. Even first thing in the morning today, I saw trash the same trash on the floor in the sauna that was there yesterday morning. read more

This place had everything you need to workout. More importantly the facilities were clean and the locker rooms didn't smell. The only reason I'm going to vote 4 stars instead of 5 is that the parking situation isn't ideal. If you're there as a guest it's $3 for 2 hours and if you join as a member they charge $10/month. Most gyms including my main LA Fitness (where I signed up) all offer free parking. read more

I hate that I made the commitment and signed up for this gym unfortunately it's the only one I know of within walking distance of my apartment. The equipment isn't really that great there isn't a lot of free weight the ones they do have are overcrowded by gym rats. The upstairs where the cardio machines are gets so humid it's awful. Then there's this whole area upstairs that's for personal trainers only and you can't use the equipment in there even when no one is using it and its stuff they had in my old gym that I like using but you can't use it here and there isn't the same equipment some where else in this gym at least none that I have seen. The gym is so small and they pack people in here like sardines it sucks I don't enjoy coming here at all and I wish I never made the decision of joining this gym in the first place. read more

I've been going to this LA Fitness on and off pretty much since they opened. Unfortunately, this won't be a glowing review. I come here mostly out of price and convenience since there are not many non-specialized gyms in the South Side. First: the equipment. When I began coming to this LA Fitness the equipment was one of the shining stars and although it is true that they pretty much have everything you need, it's fairly dated. The machines are the same since I started and they're so frequently broken or "in service" that it's best to try to get as much of your workout done with free weights. The equipment is also dirty or over used. Sometimes when I grab cable bars or hand grips there's a sticky residue that is just disgusting or the rubber grip is missing or broken. Second: Cleanliness. This one is frustrating because I'm a morning gym go-er and their 5:30-7:30am time slot can get busy and for some reason this is when they decide to mop. HOW INSANE IS THAT?! So from what I can tell their steps are very clean while NOTHING else is. I've already touched on the sticky machines so I won't reiterate on that. The locker rooms aren't clean either. They want to blame it on the members (which is a part of it) but sometimes the showers have mold which members cannot be at fault for. There is also a huge issue with people putting weights away. I understand that IS an issue with members but I've gone right when they've opened before and the weights are everywhere (even laying right in front of the stands). Not one of the employees goes around and puts things away. I get they're probably frustrated that the members should put things back but people are jerks and sometimes don't. A clothing store wouldn't leave clothes laying around at the end of the night and they shouldn't allow that with weights. Third: Temperature control. This one really gets me. It's summer and they have the door wide open allowing the humidity (and pollen) in. It feels gross and leaves the place smelling bad. The worst is in the locker rooms. I go to the gym before work and shower there. I have to take a freezing cold shower just to try to not sweat through my work clothes while getting ready. It's so hot and humid in the locker rooms that my mascara will run. We basically all try to fight over who gets the one spot in front of the mirror that has the AC vent above it (and it's barely pumping anything out). It just seems like LA Fitness is really dropping the ball at this location even though it is a popular site that always has people there. read more

Paid for a two year membership in advance because I was told I would be reimbursed for unused months if I moved. I did move, and have not been reimbursed despite constant emails to corporate and the gym. They've vetoed the reimbursement by ignoring my emails. My hundred dollars or so probably means nothing to them but it means a lot to me and it's frustrating to have no real power to get it back. Will never use an la fitness gym again, would not recommend that people use this gym either. read more

I normally would never step foot in here, but had a free guest pass so decided to give it a try. It could be that I'm a little spoiled from the luxuries at my school's gym, but my experience at LA Fitness Southside wasn't all that great. Yes, it's spacious and there are lots to do. The staff members are friendly and helpful. However, it smells like MOLDY SOCKS in there. I understand that gyms are supposed to be filled with sweat, but there's only a certain level that a human being can tolerate. Not only is the odor unbearable, but also the air is stuffy and hot. It's not that sanitary either. People don't wipe up the equipment after each use. I don't blame them though because there aren't enough sanitizer pumps around. Each floor literally had 3 sanitizer pumps. I think I spent more time looking for sanitizer pumps than working out. Overall, I do not recommend investing in the LA Fitness in Southside. Try out a different location or just run around outside. LA Fitness, please invest in some SANITIZER WIPES!! read more

Nothing like a new gym just in time for the Resolution Rush! South Side has a few smaller, non-corporate gyms, but frankly I hadn't come to terms with paying for a membership, as my complex has a relatively decent facility that we use for free. That said, with all the glitz and glamour of the LA Fitness sign blazing above 27th Street (and as a self-proclaimed workout whore), I signed myself and 3 friends up for a family plan a couple days before opening. Total sucker, I know. For those of you looking at plans, make sure they give you ALL of the options. It's a younger group doing the sales and some of them seem a bit unfamiliar with the contracting process - but, it's a monthly membership with a cancel-anytime policy (forfeiting that god-forsaken enrollment fee that all gyms charge now ...) The facility itself is new, beautiful, clean, and modern. Two levels split the weights and strength machines (downstairs - free weights up to 75-100 lbs, and machines out the wazoo) from the cardio equipment, spinning room, class room and lockers (upstairs). There is a sauna in the women's locker room, plenty of lockers and changing space (bring your own lock). For those of you more accustomed to BSC or the more upscale gyms, this certainly is not such - no towel service, no protein/smoothie bar, no pool and no basketball/racquetball court. Other notes of interest ... to anyone who might work there ... - Twice in two days the women's restroom I've visited has been out of TP. Grr. - Are there no equipment wipes for a reason? I didn't see anyone cleaning anything ... I feel like this is a health issue - Please e-mail the class schedules; no one is going to remember to check your website. No offense, we just won't. Word on the street is they've had ~1800 enrollments, well below what they expected, but it was crowded tonight, from 5-7. Interested to see how the crowd evolves over the next couple of months, though. read more
