I'm so glad I found this place. They have some great food and it's vegan. We went for dinner on a weekday. We were seated right away. Seating is outside under a covered area. Parking is scarce. We did Uber there We shared: Cauliflower wings: we did have bbq and half Buffalo. The Buffalo is a little spicy. I have high expectations for cauliflower wings since I've had some excellent ones. These weren't great, but they were good. They only have vegan ranch dressing. I will say vegan ranch never is good, but that's not the restaurants fault. Pozole: great flavor. Filling. Guacamole: no one can mess up guacamole. Loved the presentation. So yummy with the chips Alambre lonche: this sandwich was pretty big. It was delicious. Probably our favorite of all we ate. I left my hotel and started the 35 minute walk to La Flaca. I was a straight walk and canvassed several small neighborhoods. As I turned the corner, I saw an over abundance of greenery and knew La Flaca was near. I walked up a couple of stairs and left the concrete jungle of Guadalajara and entered a small restaurant that seemed like it was deep in thr Costa Rican jungle. I truly felt a million miles away from everything and everyone. It was soul cleansing to take a break from all of it. The server came over and informed me of the online menu and offered me some chips and salsa I already knew that I wanted the torta ahogada. For some perspective, the torta ahogada is a very popular dish in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Most restaurants have it on their menu and it traditional comes with meat. This version at La Flaca takes the same dish packed with its savory spices and drench roll but instead of meat has mushrooms. The complementary chips and salsa were good. The salsas are not spicy by my standards but that's ok as they did have flavor. My preference was the smokey brown salsa in lieu of the green. The torta arrived and really took the time to savor the juices and sauce from all angles. Please do that as you will appreciate the meal through every bite. Make sure not to eat all the bread right away, you'll need it to mop out the sauce and spices on the plate. There's nothing that I would add to this dish. It's simply heaven. The server brought me over another salsa promising it was spicier. He was right but my wife is the ultimate salsa maker and while this one was good and slightly spicier, it holds no candle to my wife's salsa. The server did recommend the guacamole. It's good not great. It needs onions, garlic, salt, pepper, and tomatoes. For 40 pesos ~ 2 bucks, just get it. Yeah that's right $2 USD It was a magical meal in a magical place. In total I pad 145 pesos ~ $7.50 USD for the torta, guacamole and a beer. The question is why is this meal in the United States double to triple the price? We are not from the area but we had consecutive appointments in Guadalajara...we tried La Flaca along with other local vegan restaurants. La Flaca set the bar and we continued to compare it to others. Trust me when I tell you, there's no comparison. La Flaca is a celebration for your senses. The food, the beautiful service and recommendations were extraordinary. The small place is funky and very comfortable - the food is exceptional and do yourself a favor and try a variety of choices because each time you'll end up with a new favorite...I promise. Regardless of what you decide to eat, get the guacamole - these folks know what they're doing in every aspect of running a restaurant. Thank you La Flaca for making our trip memorable. I ordered delivery from La Flaca, so forgive the presentation of the food. I'm sure it would be a lot better in the actual restaurant, however it didn't make much of an impact because the food was so delicious! I started with the taco because it was the smaller of the two main dishes I got. The filling was well seasoned and the salsa it came with was spicy and flavorful. It was very messy, so I would have liked it to be a little better encapsulated within the tortilla. But again- flavor is key. Next, I dug into the alitas. They were fairly simple - breaded floretes of cauliflower - but each florete was HUGE and they remained in tact so well when bitten. Plus there were so many of them I must have eaten an entire head of cauliflower myself! They paired really well with the barbecue sauce. Admittedly, I could have just gotten that one dish and been full, but I'm glad I got a variety. I finished the meal with the vegansito - a chocolate dipped Twinkie with cream and jam filling. It was an even combination of sweet and decadent, but light and just the right size. If it were any bigger I would have been sick of it before finishing. I probably wouldn't get it again because it had a very processed, convenience store snack type taste, but it wasn't bad if you need just a little something sweet to end your meal. read more

Sadly this place let us down despite our high hopes for a chance to try the delicacies of Jalisco in a vegan format. The tacos de papa were the best dish - although the spices tasted more Indian than Mexican (aloo chole in a taco basically). The birria tacos were rather one-dimensional. Wow, simply fantastic food here. The tortilla soup was my first time having tortilla soup in years because usually it's not vegan. The soup base had the most amazing flavors. The soya asada tacos were delicious. They serve the classic Guadalajara staple "smothered tortas" (in tomato sauce) but no meat! Yay! Dude, there's no words to describe the joy I felt when I laid eyes on their menu. Birria, barbacoa, chorizo, freaking Pozole ALL VEGAN? Christ on a cracker, all the yes forever. Their place is small but their menu makes up for it. All of their food is like a dream come true for us mexican vegans who are left to eat nothing but rice and beans at family gatherings outside of our homes and most restaurants. I love this place and I'm not a vegan. The service was great, and most of the food received rave reviews. They give you various salsas to enjoy and if you like heat the orange one is pretty good. I ordered the vegan asada + garbanzo bean taco and the potato chorizo taco, both were good but the asada taco was especially delicious, especially with the orange salsa. Other items ordered included the torta ahogada, the birria plate, and the snickers popsicle. We did order the emmoladas to share based on the server telling us it's one of their most popular items but this was the one dish nobody cared for. They graciously removed it from the table and the bill with no issue. This restaurant was one of my favorites while in Guadalajara and I recommend it whether you're vegan or not. I can't wait to visit again to enjoy their food. The location is fairly small so expect it to be busy during popular times. read more

A lot of traditional Mexican dishes--but vegan. The barbecoa de Berenjena sopes were awesome. And the Asada de Soya tacos were great too. But definitely get some sopes. There were many other things I wanted to try on the menu. Nice, friendly and accommodating staff. This is kind of a semi-outdoor patio type establishment. But since it was hot as hell the breeze was nice. It's located right off of Chapultepec, so great location with plenty to see after your meal. read more

This place is delicious. It's in the heart of an upscale area. The food was excellent and not pricey at all. I ordered the Cauliflower wings bbq and buffalo. They where excellent. The breading was crispy and flavorful the sauces used were tangy and delicious. I ordered 4 tacos the first 2 where there barrbacoa style tacos and the other 2 were de Alambre both where excellent choices. My cousin ordered a mushroom soup with "bacon" and beans. Vegan Mexican? Really why would you want to try this and is there such a thing? Well in my experience every vegan restaurant that I have tried has not been an experience that I look forward to. A lot of the vegan restaurants overdue tofu and try to substitute every meat for tofu. Well not La flack, they use other alternatives. My first night there I had their torta ahogada which is a typical Guadalajara dish. It's basically pork carnitas inside a telera (sourdough roll) then on top of the torta (sandwich) they add a spicy salsa. Basically it's a wet sandwich. La flaca stuffed the torta with mushrooms and beans. They pour over a mild tomatoe salsa which was not spicy and enjoyable. The same night I had a dish that has change my perceptive towards vegan food. Vegan Pole which is the only dish with tofu but the broth of the Pozole was the same as regular Pozole. It literally tasted the same as regular Pozole. The other dish that change my perspective towards vegan food is cauliflower wings. They are made out breaded cauliflower fried with wings sauce. They tasted amazing!! They accept credit cards and have local craft beers. It's a small restaurant but the customer service it's amazing and prices on food are great. La flaca is definitely a restaurant to visit even if you are not vegan. read more

La Flaca is good! Yes, it's in the tourist, cara area of Guadalajara but it's decently priced and really beautiful at night with the lights on the deck area. It's right near Ave. libertad and Ave. Mexico, so I'd recommend going on a friday or the weekend, where you can have a great meal and then walk to Chapultepec. I ordered orange juice, guacamole y una torta. The whole meal was so filling and very well made and seasoned. The torta was my favorite, definitely a good meal if you're really hungry. I wish I were hungrier and could try the dessert! read more

This place was really good- the food was delicious, the service was decent, and the atmosphere/seating was enjoyable. However, the reason I knocked down a star is because the first night I went to eat there they were closing early around 7:30 even though their hours said they were open until 10. When I went there a second night, I wanted to have asada tacos, but they were out of that. I also wanted buffalo cauliflower wings, but they offered me bbq ones instead because they also had run out of buffalo. And to top it off, that night, my husband got sick and we believe it was the sauce from the torta ahogada that he ate because that was the only thing we did not share and I was fine; it's also common to get sick from certain sauces here. So ultimately, the food was good, but I'd be cautious only about the restaurant potentially running out of the plates you'd want and early closings. read more

A vegan Mexican restaurant in Mexico? Must try, especially after seeing all the options for meat eaters in abundance. Of course, I chose this vegan life, but w e still like to have delicious options too. I expected a lot from La Flaca, but I've learnt to always be open to anything on the spectrum of experiences. That being said, the food was not particularly spectacular. It was cold, and did not seem fresh. I can't say that I will never visit again, but I was slightly disappointed. Location and ambience was beautiful and laid-back, I must admit. It was right on a main road, but my partner and I found no issues with it. The terrace was beautiful in the setting light of the sun, and it was even nicer to have a beautiful dog to look at in the restaurant. This one is getting 4 stars, because BIG SHOUT-OUT to them for pioneering a vegan restaurant in a predominantly meat-eating city. We were a walk-in party of 9, and this place is small, really small. The service was S-L-O-W! It appeared as though they called in an extra cook and server to accommodate us. The staff was SUPER friendly, but the dishes came out one or two at a time and we had appetizers too. Needless to write, but we totally overwhelmed them. The best dish was the Buffalo Cauliflower. The rest of the food was decent to good. The nice server made me an iced cappuccino with soy milk and explained it was his first time making it and asked me if I liked it. I did, but more so appreciated him giving it a go and not saying "we don't serve that". Would I go back? Most likely, I want to try all those meat-free tacos, and recommend you do that first!!! read more
