My associates and I went there last night for dinner and will definitely be returning. The quality of the food was fantastic with perfect serving sized. I had the Aubergine appetizer and Avignon stew and both were great. My associates had the steak, cod fish and the fish special. All of us were very pleased with our meals ... no speaking, just eating!!! We had a very nice meal here. The ambiance was terrific and the staff exceptionally accommodating. Each menu item was well explained and the server helped us choose best to suite our taste. Also easily made room for our celiac issue. Our server also helped guide me to a wonderful bottle of 2019 Chateau de la Gardine Chateauneuf-du-Pape which was exceptionally well priced and was a perfect accompaniment to our cow cheek second plate. We had an awesome meal here tonight! The staff translated everything for us in great detail. The escargot was our favorite item! The cold pea soup was refreshing although not especially noteworthy. Our main courses were great and very flavorful- tons of fresh herbs. Desserts were also fantastic, the puffed pastry being the better of the two. This was our first visit to the La Fourchette post pandemic. The service was professional, but they certainly did not hover. When the server came to take our order, she said they had several entree and main course additions to the menu. We each chose entrees from the additions, my wife, a baby artichoke salad, and me asparagus and Gouda cheese salad. Both were delicious and nice portions. For main courses, we remained with choices from the printed menu. My wife chose a filet of Daurade Royale (Sea Bream) with a basil sauce, which she loved, and I chose the Daube de Boeuf Avignonaisse, slowly cooked beef cheeks in a rich red wine sauce with carrots and mushrooms. Wow, this dish was so delicious. I had forgotten how good this dish is when prepared by a talented chef. They brought out a small bowl of deep-fried potato puffs. The latter was my only minor complaint. They lacked salt. Shirley opted for a petit cafe, which was accompanied by a mini ball of raspberry sorbet. I got a dessert portion of lemon sorbet, super tart. We shared a half bottle of 2020 Gigondas. We loved everything about our meal, delicious, generous portions, and the price which we thought was reasonable. Very nice meal and service - if you can stick to the French menu do so - it all sounds better in French than the rather butchered english version. We had a really nice bottle of lirac to drink which was a recommendation of our server. My wife had a beautiful pumpkin soup with foie gras floating in the middle - truly an amazing combination of sweet and salty. I had the lamb liver with raisins for my main - very yummy and we had a cheese course to end it - though the patisseries looked great. Very old school with a split it seemed half and half between the French and tourists on the Tuesday night that we were there. Absolutely charming Bistro in Avignon Can't agree with earlier reviewer who suggested it's a tourist trap. Only frogs as far as we could see. The ambiance is charming with dozens of antique forks on the wall to provide the namesake. It's cozy and warm so a great setting for a date. Food is bistro++ regional fare.We had salmon with Lentils du Puy and a delicate fish ravioli as starters. Scallops with spinach and a beef daube for mains. As said, food was bistro++ and not haute cuisine. Paid €55 per person including two glasses of champagne and a bottle of Gigondas Red. Good value. Happy to come back next trip. read more

We had passed by this restaurant two nights in a row, and both times it was completely packed - so we decided to make a reservation. The good: It is very nice inside, and has a great wine list. The wait staff were attentive and willing to make food substitutions. However, i just don't think the food is up to par, i am not sure why this place was so full, my guess is that some nearby hotels are sending people over here. Or perhaps it was an off-night. I had a sausage and lentil plate appetizer - sausage was like boiled spam. Also had the equivalent of braised beef - i've head much better versions of that in the US. We went to this place on the trusted recommendations from TripAdvisor, unfortunately this was a huge letdown. The restaurant interior is quite homey with various different types of forks hanging from the walls. But, we quickly realized that mostly everyone there was a tourist, speaking mostly English. This was definitely none other than a tourist trap which we tried to avoid like the plague. The waitress took about 30 minutes to finally get to our table to take our order at which point several of the items on their menu were not available. She suggested several different dishes which my husband and I agreed upon. The appetizers were less than mediocre and the entrees were terrible. The food was either over salted or under-seasoned. Let's just say that any meal at a TJIF's would have been better than this. The dessert we literally left untouched because it was beyond bad. Not only was the food terrible but it was extremely over priced, at about $40 USD per person for this type of low quality food and service was absurd. I would not recommend anyone go to this restaurant unless you are looking for over priced, less than average food with very slow and unenthusiastic service. read more

Contrary to other reviews here, I didn't see this place as a big tourist trap. Yes, there was a big band of Chinese tourists seated, all eating the same courses at the same time all the way through their prix fixe menu, but I also saw a few tables of French-speaking diners (or... maybe they're tourists too, from other parts of France). But just because you see tourists all around you doesn't mean the restaurant is a tourist trap, or that it serves horrible food. If people complain about that, they need to learn the native language of wherever they want to find "non-touristy" food, and venture outside the city center to find the small underdecorated dining rooms that serve what real people around there eat. Anyway, tourists tend to come eat at the earlier hours, so how can they complain that everyone else is a tourist, when they are eating out 2-3 hours earlier than the locals in France? The restaurant staff (who I found to be kind and patient) did not speak English (only some words here and there), but they do have their menu in English. We got the 3-course prix fixe for 35 euros. For starter, I had a shrimp, avocado, and grapefruit salad (it was off the menu but recommended), and it was nice and fresh. We all got the beef daube (La daube de bœuf à l'Avignonnaise), since we wanted to try a Provencal specialty. The meat was very tender and flavorful. It came with a gratin de macaronis which I wasn't too interested in. For dessert I had the sorbets, which was good. I had the beef and C had the scallops. Both were great! (Had the crevette pilaf for an apertif, which was excellent as well, though I was a bit sorry I passed on the escargot. That looked great as well!) Service was attentive and the wine list was very reasonable a restaurant located near such a touristy area.
