Not a lot of authentic Spanish food where I live in garden city. But you can always count on La hacienda for some good Spanish food. Portion sizes are huge. You basically walk in, food is already cooked and you tell them what you want. Although I feel sometimes it's a little chaotic and disorganized. I were in from Chicago, working an hour away. Visited the local Walmart and seen the traffic coming and going from this Restaurant, I had to stop in to place a to-go order. I am not disappointed! The food was very deliciously prepared like ordered and the staff are the most attractive individuals in working there, especially the bartender. I will definitely be back when in town. I used to go a lot but their service and food had changed as time went on. Their pupusas are still good but everything else is average. Their prices are not posted. Once you have selected what you want and you get to the register then you find out the prices. It wasn't like that before. So buyer beware ask the prices and assume nothing. I was disappointed the last two times between mystery pricing and messing up my orders (where I had to go back). I feel I needed to try other spots and check out the competition. We love coming here because everything is freshly made daily. My husband loves to order the steak with rice and peas. He also gotta have picked cabbage. I love the salmon. The chicken enchiladas with the queso cheese and hard boiled egg is a must have. There are so many options to choose from. Chicken, Fish, Beef, Soups, Salads, and fabulous vegetables. Ordered a couple of things for pick up with a group of coworkers who really enjoy this place. It was hard to get someone to answer the phone there when we were trying to call in our order. It took close to 10 mins of calling back. When we did reach someone it was fine from there. This was around 12:30pm. I got a cheese pupusa and beef pastelito/empanada. Beef Empanada- Loved this. The beef was nicely done and mixed with potato. Well seasoned. I'd have this again and try their chicken ones. Cheese Pupusa- Kind of bland without the added cabbage salad and hot sauce that it comes with, but with both of these it was very good. I would try a different kind of pupusa next time. Went here for lunch, & was mostly families w/ kids ....this place is super popular, for good reason - delicious, very fresh, & very inexpensive, with very wide-ranging menu of El Salvadorian specialities....Flautas & papusas were on point, salad greens were very fresh, & very generous portions. Staff is also super friendly & patient, even though very little English is spoken here, & my Spanish is limited to less than 40 words (fortunately, most are food-related). Best food hands down. We have family and friends that travel from all over to come here. The best most authentic Honduran and Salvadoran food you can find in the tri state. Out of all the material falling onto your plates...microspores, molds, fungi, mucus particles from the person who sneezes a few feet away, dust, mites, youre worried about harmless hair. It's like going to an outdoor place and complaining about the fly in your drink. Relax, pull it out, keep eating. You wont get sick. And really, one piece of hair equals one star? Try out la hacienda if your into central american food. I went there to have breakfast with my sister and the place barely has any seating, there were dirty plates on trays on whatever seat was open and to top it off, there was hair on the scrambled egg I ordered.
