I was so happy to see a Homemade Taqueria store open in nearby Hempstead. Got a takeout order of chips and guac, chicken burrito with avocado add-on, steak taco and 3 shrimp tacos. Everything was well packaged, with pleasant staff and prompt service. First of all portions are quite generous. Warm chips in a paper bag tasted homemade, and the "small" order of guac I ordered was actually a huge portion and ultra creamy. The chicken burrito was packed with fresh ingredients (although I would have liked more chicken); the $2.00 surcharge for adding hefty avocado slices was well worth it. Soft tacos wrapped in corn tortillas made with large seared shrimp were delicious. I liked that they didn't use too much cojita cheese in the tacos, but plenty of healthy avo. I didn't much care for the spicing of my marinated steak taco, but my partner loved it so no accounting for tastes :) Each item comes with a choice of two sauces so I tried them all. The pico and green sauce were my personal faves, I used them liberally to spice things up. Ordering directly from Homemade Taqueria's website is the most cost effective method, and they offer loyalty points as well. Can't wait to try some different items next time! read more

Since my original review I have probably ordered from this place at least another 25+ times so here are my updated observations: Avoid the Torta's and Burritos from here - they are overpriced for the ingredients they give. My recent order of the Milanesa de Pollo Torta I was expecting a nice breaded chicken cutlet, but literally got 5 random, thin pieces of chicken. It was mostly all bread - none of the tortas are worth the $8 to $9 they charge. Same goes for Burritos. If mostly rice and flour tortilla are your thing then by all means get this. You'll find more meat in any taco you order from here. Not worth the $9 to $11 they charge. That's the puzzling thing about this place because their tacos are very generous - the meat literally falls out of the taco because they give you so much. Even with the tacos I've been noticing the quality has gone down a bit with any meat being overcooked and dried out. I usually order around dinner time and delivery. Perhaps you might have better luck during lunch hours and in person. I'll probably give this place a break for a little while and hope they get their act together if I decide to give them another shot in the future. read more

I recently ordered from Homemade Taqueria and it was delivered very quickly, the food was still hot so it was extremely fresh, and what should be crispy still had the crispness to it. That's a huge success when ordering food to be delivered!! I had the most delicious shrimp tacos that were so fresh and flavorful and the crispy chicken tostada which was so crisp and the creaminess from the avocado was a superb juxtaposition. This place was great. The young man that was working had great customer service and kept everything rolling perfectly. We started with some Bev's and o had one of the agua frescas which was really good. Now this is a hidden gem tucked away on Fulton. We came here for dinner on a Sunday night and thankfully we were able to dine in so the food wouldn't get cold/soggy on the way home. We had a combo which included a taco, tostada and huarache and also a Argentina torta. Of course we had some chips and salsa as well. The food and the service were absolutely terrific. The torta was easily the best torta I've ever had. The steak was cooked perfectly. The service was good they were super friendly. Make sure you get extra salsa verde (May be spicy for most) however it has a great flavor and is a great addition to the meal. I will definitely come back here to try more things on the menu. Without a doubt, the BEST steak quesadilla I've ever had! Different than others, but in such a great way. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The place is in the middle of a very busy block of Fulton Avenue, but there is parking on the street (meters) and 1/2 block before the restaurant there is a municipal lot. You walk into a very nice restaurant. A little dark, but otherwise very inviting. It also has a lot of vibrant colors so it doesn't feel like a cave. The two people at the counter were very nice. One of them even pointed out their lunch specials that are not on the regular menu - a steak taco with a small side of guacamole and a steak quesadilla for $6.95. It even included a can of soda! A fresh lunch for only $7.55 with tax - what a deal! Now for the food. The steak taco was good. The meat and the tortillas were fresh. Add in some fresh tomato salsa from the salsa bar and the guacamole and you have a solid taco. Now for the quesadilla - something I will definitely go back for. The cheese was not your typical cheddar/Monterrey jack mix. It was a much more authentic, crumbled cheese and it was great. I expected the steak to be the same steak as the taco, but it was not. It was much better - juicier and tastier. It was excellent. On top of that was some fresh shredded lettuce. I wouldn't have thought I like this, but it really brought the quesadilla up. I was looking for a taco place near me and and saw the great reviews Homemade Taqueria had so I tried it out a few weeks ago. I didn't get around to reviewing it at the time but I came back earlier today and it was just as good as the first time so I thought I should write a review while I had the chance. The place is on Hempstead Turnpike / Fulton Ave and doesn't have a parking lot so you have to park on the street (metered parking but don't think they're in effect on weekends) or at one of the public parking lots nearby (I think they should be free on the weekends but not sure). The interior of the place is pretty clean and presentable. They have a clean and simple lime / salsa bar which gets the job done well. Also there is no table service, just the way I like it, so you're not obligated to tip. I dined in both times and they do bring your food out to you, which is cool. The girl at the front was very nice to me both times and offered some horchata to try. I came to get tacos both times and their tacos currently range in price from $2.75 - $3.00 each. Tacos like the chicken and al pastor are $2.75 while tacos like chorizo or steak + onions are $3. I'm giving this five stars, so I feel very strongly that they tacos here are very good. The tacos here come on 2 flour tortillas with cilantro and onions. They don't skimp on the meat so the tacos here are fairly big (but not overly so) compared to other places, which I loved. I got 4 tacos the first time and could only eat 3 and had to take one home. I've had the chicken, carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, and streak. They were all enjoyable but my favorite was the chorizo! So good and rock solid. They grind up the chorizo pretty finely here and I like it that way compared to some other places where you get bigger chunks. The steak one was fairly oily but still enjoyable. The al pastor was good and they put mango or pineapple in them for some sweetness. The carnitas was a little overdone and not ultra moist but it was still very satisfying. The chicken taco is the best chicken taco I've had recently cause the meat was a lot more tender and moist compared to other places I've tried. So this definitely gets 5 stars because of the combination of quality and value. I'd say this is the best taco place I've found in Nassau County so far. read more
