The park is small, but well maintained and clean. The palm tree lined walking path is wide and flat. Nice playground. The beach is a short walk over -- just follow the sand. :) We ventured into the neighborhood behind the park to check out the lovely homes, each with their own personality. The people were so friendly to wave and say 'hi' as we walked by. There's two good size parking areas -- pay to park machines are easy to find.

Literally, when we got past the sand dune, and the view of the waves opened up, her jaw dropped and her wagging tail was in overdrive. I had to carry her, but she seemed to love that ocean air and the glorious cool breeze (I sure did). I need to move there. That is all.

It was on the coolish side, but the abundance of sunshine made it seem warmer. We had an early dinner down on Main Street. Where we parked there was a sign indicating that the eastern entrance to Grant Park was nearby. We had been up there perhaps only once in the past, and we'd gone in from the west. The drive up in the late afternoon / early evening had the golden glow magic to it. The light was amazing! I was driving and marveling at every twist and turn on the roadway while ascending the hills. The wildflowers and green groundcover from winter's rains made the scenery even more breathtaking than it might be when the grasses start to turn golden instead of green. I was able to drive all the way to the top parking lot, which overlooks the Serra Cross, and the entire Ventura coastline. The view encompasses the pier, the harbor, then beyond out to Channel Islands Harbor, Port Hueneme, and the western edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. It solidified my feelings in that moment of gratitude for enjoying life in Ventura County for the past 40 years. A gorgeous view on a clear day can do that for a person. When a sunny day happens, and the winds are calm, I can recommend taking a drive up to the top of Grant Park to make some of your daily cares seem very small. Looking down on the city / county from on high helped lift my spirits and added joy to my birthday celebrations.

I never knew about it til I saw it in an Oxnard magazine I picked up earlier from the Heritage Square. There is a small parking lot and some street parking so we don't have a problem finding a parking spot. We walked around and saw the sea lions on the shore a few feet away from where kids were swimming. I even saw a few right near them. Kind of scary. Overall a great spot to swim, kayak and paddle board for starters. Will bring back my niece soon.

The beach is also home to 100s of squrriels. I have never seen a baby squrriel till now. Like I said 100s of them. Some are fat and some are about 3 inches in size. They hide in the rocks and under the rocks. All very tame and not afraid of you. The waves can be great. Lots of lifegaurds in case you get stuck. There is plenty of parking. Just remember to always pay. The train also runs right by.

They also have the dancing Christmas lights extravaganza on the pagoda that starts early December til the first week of January from 5pm til 10pm. The giant Christmas tree is also lit up. The kids love it and so do I. We have been going for years and never miss it. The parking lot is next to the park and is kind of small and parking can be a bit of a challenge especially on Friday nights and weekends. There is a parking structure right around the corner on 3rd and B. There is also plenty of street parking.

Food trucks filled with Maine lobster, vegan food, burgers, and more were on hand. Although I am happy bring a Floridian, I came away with wanting to live here. Great job Ventura! I will be back!
