Our stay at La Jolla Indian Campground was nothing short of amazing! This was by far our absolute favorite place we have ever camped. The campground is incredibly beautiful, well-maintained, and spotless. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how welcoming and well kept everything was. What truly made our experience exceptional was the staff. Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful, but Brian especially stood out. He was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and eager to share information about the campground and surrounding activities. His recommendations helped us make the most of our trip and made navigating the area so much easier. We had an absolute blast tubing down the beautiful river, and there was no shortage of fun for the whole family. The splash pad will be a huge hit when we come back with the kids, and the spacious campsites right along the water made for the perfect camping experience. We also had the pleasure of speaking with John, one of the managers, who was equally kind, courteous, and helpful. It is clear that the staff truly care about their guests and take pride in making every visit memorable. La Jolla Indian Campground is truly a hidden gem. Between the stunning scenery, clean facilities, amazing river access, and outstanding staff, it exceeded all of our expectations. We cannot wait to come back and create even more memories here. The people who answer the phone and greet you at check in are very nice. That was the only good part of the experience. I have camped for many years, all over, and none were as bad as this. I called to check a few things on the phone before booking my reservation. They were very nice, polite, but were not forth coming with how this place works. The price is outrageous. Especially when many of the advertised features have been closed for a while. There are no designated camping spots and from what I can tell, they don't really seem to have any cap to reservations. We arrived at 755 am, yesterday, holiday weekend. Check in 8 am. There were about 6 cars in line but it took about 10-15 minutes to check in because of how slow they are to check people in. Then we drove in anticipation from zone 1 all the way to zone 9 looking for a spot, somewhere to camp, set up, relax, and enjoy the weekend. No such luck. Dozens and dozens and dozens of people every where. No marked camping spots. People camped on rocks, up against the mountain, in the creek bed, all over the place. People on top of each other, tent to tent. We left, and we know we were out the $ but we wanted some place to unwind and relax and this seemed like major stress and chaos. When we drove out there were another 10 cars in line waiting to check in. I have no idea where they were going to find a camping spot. Lesson learned to make sure that when you have a reservation for camping that you actually have and actual designated camping spot. read more

Don't reccomend one bit, save your money go ANYWHERE else, there's plenty of better options nearby. This campground is overpacked with people making it impossible to get into the river. With all of the people they also brought many cars in. However we were using an RV site and had 1 car already, but we were going to a nearby town with someone to come and pick us up and possibly stay for atleast an hour on the grounds but the staff here plus manager handled this very disrespectfully telling us each campsite is held to 1 car per site. So we look around but multiple sites have 2+ cars. They let us through but only at the extent of holding the license which is extremely absurd. Not to mention the bathrooms for the tent campers. The lines at night were over 10+ people long and there's only 2 showers available throughout the entire campsite. The only restrooms I could see were portapotties which clearly didn't look clean or maintained at all. Their website makes this place look very nice and clean and fun for kids with plenty of activities, but then once you get here it's the total opposite. Everything closed and the prices to do the accessible things such as ziplining is 100+ per person. Knowing that you already pay that price per night just shows how money hungry this place is. Just overall avoid this place, nicer campgrounds about 20-30 minutes away. read more

Our first time staying at this camp ground, it looked like a nice getaway to relax, but turned out beyond stressful and chaotic... We began setting up and stayed our first night which didn't seem to bad, until people started walking through our campsite, and even parking In front of our car blocking it in during the evening, because of the shower insanity. If you're a tent camper they only have 2 areas at the bottom of the camp and at the top to shower and use the restrooms. This makes everyone driving and having a 10-15 person line out of them, a parking nightmare and a DIRTY bathroom. As for the price and all the activities everything is separate, so you have to buy a pass to any activity you want to do. We had a family member try to come up and hangout only for a few hour and we were told that having a second car was not allowed and we couldn't do that so we had to give a license as proof that we would return after 10 minutes to leave with them. BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL.. the campground was already crowded with people with MANY cars and they were never controlled. Bummer... the creek also goes through everyone's campsites so if you go tubbing you're going into everyone's campsites and bumping into all of their chairs that are in the water. We had an amazing camping trip, and a big reason why was Brian from security. From the moment we arrived, he was friendly, welcoming, and made everyone feel safe and comfortable. He went above and beyond to make sure campers were taken care of. What really stood out was seeing him save a child from drowning. He acted immediately, stayed calm under pressure, and truly made a difference. It was incredible to witness his professionalism and courage. Beware!!! Before you book!!! We were very disappointed with our stay at La Jolla Indian Campground. One of the main reasons we booked was for the water activities, but there was no river tubing available and the water park was closed during our visit. Water is almost dried up and filthy!!! We paid nearly $400 for two nights for a group site with no hookups, which did not feel like a good value. The shower facilities were frustrating to use, and the group sites were much smaller than expected. Accommodating two cars and two groups felt cramped, with very limited shade available throughout the day. Another major inconvenience was the restroom availability. The restrooms opened at 8:00 AM and closed at 8:00 PM on weekends, with even shorter operating hours on weekdays. Outside those hours, guests were expected to use porta-potties. While this may be manageable for some campers, it is especially inconvenient for families with children. Taking younger children to porta-potties during the night or early morning is far from ideal and made the camping experience much more difficult. We also found the website to be misleading, as it highlighted amenities and attractions that were unavailable during our stay. Had we known that tubing was unavailable and the water park was closed, we likely would have chosen a different campground. We hope management updates the website with accurate and current information so future guests can make informed decisions before booking. Not Recommended - Very Disappointing Experience We reserved and paid for an RV site for our camping-equipped Tesla. After driving a long distance to get there, we were immediately turned away because the manager said our Tesla was "not an RV." We have camped at many other campgrounds using our Tesla and have never had this issue. If this campground only accepts traditional RVs, that policy should be clearly stated on their website before guests book and pay for a site. We found nothing that explicitly said camping-equipped EVs or converted camping vehicles were not allowed. What made the experience even worse was the customer service. No one answered the phone when we tried calling before our visit. The manager, Tracy, was extremely rude and handled the situation unprofessionally. Instead of trying to de-escalate the situation or explain the policy respectfully, he raised his voice, called us "liars," and accused us of lying when we made the reservation. We paid the full overnight RV site rate of $118--we were not trying to cheat the system or avoid paying. We booked the site in good faith, based on our previous experiences at other campgrounds. It was uncomfortable to watch the employees stand by while the manager yelled at us. A manager should set the standard for professionalism and customer service, not create a hostile situation. Camping has evolved, and many people now travel in camping-equipped electric vehicles, camper vans, and converted vehicles. The campground should update its policies and website to clearly explain what vehicles are accepted and provide staff with better customer service training. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I cannot recommend this campground. read more

I love camping and the natural here was beautiful & incredible. Each road had access to the river with small waterfalls. They have quiet hours which is great otherwise all day long it's the battle of the bands. I would have given more stars if they actually had labeled sites, this is a free for all. Camping on the sides of the road, on boulders, you name it I saw it here. Primitive camping! Port-a-potty's and a spigot nearby for every hundred people. A rock ring to make fires in some odd places like under dried oak trees or right beside the road. I wish they had more proper restrooms I only found one. Still it's camping, in tents, outside with the river flowing so peacefully only heard it in the early morning hours because of the battling music. Would still go again but midweek has less people. If you live in OC this is the perfect weekend camping get-a-way! Only a 2 hour drive from north OC, this campground has everything for the perfect weekend away. La Jolla Indian Campground is easy to drive in and drive out. All camp sites are first come first served but we were able to find a good spot arriving around 2PM on a Friday. The sound of the river at night was so beautiful and relaxing. Most camp sites are along the river so it's almost impossible to get a bad spot. Unless you show up in the evening, then you might have to set your camp up on the road side. However, even road side you are still less than 200 yards from the river. It's expensive but overall worth the cost in my opinion. read more

I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding our recent stay over the Memorial Day weekend. We cut our vacation short and left early due to the unacceptable condition of the resort and the misleading information provided by your staff. Two days before our arrival, I called to specifically ask about the water levels and if the dam had been opened. I was assured by the employee on the phone that the water levels were great. Based on that confirmation, we drove 2.5 hours with our teenagers and another family. Upon arrival, we found the area completely dried up and entirely unswimmable. Furthermore, despite advertisements and promotional videos showing a pool, splash pad, and water park, we were informed that none of these amenities were open, nor have they been for the last two years. Charging $70 a night for a resort with zero functional amenities and dried-up water levels is entirely unacceptable. If we wanted to dry camp we could have done that at lake Skinner for less then half the price!!! read more

We just got back from our 3 day 2 night stay and can't wait to return. For starters we had gone with some information about the campground but were impressed to find out there was a splash pad, playground & showers. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The campground was clean and I liked being able to pick our own site. You really get your moneys worth with 8am check in & 4pm check out. We were a group of 12 tent camping with 4 kids and the rest adults. I agree with other reviews of over crowding and no control. There an no designated camp sites other than group camping. We went Thursday- Sunday. Luckily we found a good spot on the river. By Friday the sites on both sides of us were taken up and their groups kept getting larger. The group on our right had 12 cars and started parking in front of our site and tents. One person in our group took his truck to get ice came back and someone was parked in his spot between two of our cars. He asked them to move, told management and they said nothing we can do we don't have a written rule about parking. Cars began parking in the street. There was a lot of police and security that didn't do much except drive around. Everytime we left our site we had to lay out tables or move chairs so people wouldn't take our spots or move in. Eventually the large group started putting tents in our site area. Literally one foot away from our kitchen area. It was so weird. Yes it is first come first serve but it shouldn't be if you aren't in your spot 247 it will get taken. The pool was broken and dirty but they still let people swim. The 3 porta potties near us got very nasty and ran out of toilet paper mid day every day. There was a brown bathroom building by us but it was always locked. There were people camping inside the park area, on road turn outs, next to the restrooms, literally wherever they could fit. On Saturday they stopped letting walkins in WELL beyond what they had room for. By 12 on Saturday they ran out of tubes for rent. So definitely bring your own tubes and wear water shoes. The creek was nice but they have no rules or crowd control. I came here as a child and it was far less busy. I don't think I will come back unless changes are made like being realistic about the amount of people this campground can accommodate. Making defined campsites and not allowing others to park in your campsite. We showed up early we shouldn't have had to worry about our spots or site getting taken and the other people camping just don't care. RV camping looked much calmer. The showers by RV camping always had a crazy long line. & yes people play music very loud all day. read more

They were extremely disrespectful towards our camp and also racist, there were about 20 of us which makes sense as to why they were so worried about us, but the way the handled it was just upsetting and disrespectful, they were asking us if we spoke English in a demeaning way, there were many white campers around us and they had no issue with those people, only us being mostly Mexican, they also tried to say that we were illegally buying beer, they complained about us having music at 9:30 am which is way above their 7 am curfew, in all honesty we had been regular customers but after this, we will look for a camp ground elsewhere read more

Many things to say about my first time there! Top things, Will come back! Loved it! Worth going, worth the money spent reserving a campsite. 10/19/2024 For my 30th Birthday I reserved campsite 2D (Friday-Sunday), which can have up to 8 cars. Such a beautiful location and had its own little section of river where you can have access to sit and enjoy the water. This area felt private but not too private as we were nearby the road. The campsite was big, only had 6 cars but we all fit perfectly, up the little hill was one porta potty, no one else is near us so it was used by us only, there is another campground near us (2A) they had their own two porta potty's, both 2A & 2D are near the bike shuttle. We had 3 large picnic tables, a fire pit, one grill (that we didn't use). Sheriff and the campground security drives around often! (Felt safe). I didn't do any of the activities they offered, but friends did rent out bikes, $60 for one hour. The staff was nice, straight up with you, provided us with trash bags if we needed. Campsite was clean! It was unclear to me about check in/out times, but we asked and they did say check out was at 6pm, so we stayed till 4pm on check out day which was amazing! We cleaned up and relaxed by the river. Showers were not working the weekend we stayed, but that's okay, tried going to the other showers near area 7 and we couldn't find them, (you could walk, but we drove because it is a bit of a walk) the campground is big! Took my little dog, but I was so worried about coyotes and mountain lions, but never saw any wild life other than yellow jackets, honey bees and gofers. 2 big white dogs wandered into our campsite in the middle of the night as we were by the fire and later on, one other black one, not sure if they belong to someone at the campground or to a camper staying there the same day as us. Lots of trees, weather said it would be 80 degrees but the trees provided cool shade. Also, no cell phone signal for most carriers, download your playlist before you go! Verizon only could send text but no pictures, most of my friends had no signal. There is free wi-fi at the gas station (trading post) if needed. Or at check in, they do have walkie talkies if needed to call for emergency paramedics, which we did see happen. Again, worth the trip and will be coming back Pros. Porta potty was cleaned daily, Trashed picked up daily. Water level was high in October, not too noisy, could have been because we didn't have other camping neighbors other than the people across from us. Cons: Had to buy firewood at the gas station $7.98 for a bundle (about 5 pieces of wood). No shower or changing room allowed, I had put up my changing room, a pop up bathroom/changing thing I use for changing, I told them it was only for changing, they thought it was a shower, told me to take it down. No glass bottles, (understandable). Dogs only allowed in October :( No outlets. read more

If I was able to give this place a 0 I would. I called to cancel my reservation after having book it within less that 1 hour. After speaking to 2 people I was told they would make an exception and provide me with a full refund. They informed me someone would give me a call back within one hour to provide me with a confirmation. I never received a call back. After about 3 hours I called back and I spoke to a man who was unbelievably rude. He did not let me speak, he yelled at his employees, put me on hold without saying anything, and when he got back on the phone began to yell at me. At one point he was yelling back and forth with an employee. The level of unprofessionalism and rudeness was unbelievable. I finally said I would just call my back and he hung up on me. I would never stay here or recommend anyone to do so. read more

Let me just say that this had to be the WORSE camping experience we had ever had. We are avid campers and camp several times a year and never had I wanted to leave right as I got there. First off, when you book they don't let you or tell you what campsite it's cause there is NO designated camp area. You literally show up and find a camping spot. Wherever you fit! People were camping right the river, walk ways, side of the road. Wherever can they pop a tent they were there. There was no such thing as etiquette! People were loud and cursing. When we got set up a family had came in and set up right up next to our tent, to the point we had to move our tent cause we didn't want to be so close to them. Then two more big tents got set up directly below us in the walk way. They don't check people coming in for drugs or weapons. The people next to us was blasting loud music way past 10 pm and doing acid! No one came and said anything to them. But there is "security " driving around (not sure what exactly they are patrolling). There are tons of porta potties. They have bathrooms but it has a shower curtain as it's door (that's if you are lucky to have one). The shower curtains barely even cover the entire entry way! There is ONE shower building for the ENTIRE camp site! There is 4 showers for it. Only open from 8 am to 8 pm. We waited in line for about an hour to take a shower (if it wasn't for me feeling so dirty from the river I wouldn't of showered) The river is pretty NON existent. It is sooo dirty! People do not pick up after themselves! While we were in river cooling off a big TURD floated down the river! ( I want to throw up just thinking about it again) Oh and they changed their prices. It is $70 to go camp (in a spot you might not even have) if you have any extra cars it is still $70! Whether you camp or not! They only accept cash and you can't bring in your own fire wood and have to purchase it from them. It's $10 for like 4 sticks. Thank goodness it was too hot and we didn't need to put a fire. There is a splash pad that the kid did enjoy and probably the only thing that made me stay longer cause the kids can play in that and cool off. read more

We were looking for a campsite for the three day weekend and happened to see a comment about La Jolla Campground on a camping fb page. Looked them up, saw there was availability and took a chance and booked. We really wanted to see if there was water bc recent reviews were very scarce and called every week for several weeks and finally reached someone who said there was water. Pros: U can camp next to the river which was amazing Kids had a great time tubing every day and river was running and clean. Wear swim leggings or a wetsuit and crocs otherwise legs will get scratched up and kids will lose ur shoes in the river. Trash and porta potties were cleaned daily Friendly ppl and seemed everyone was having a great time, it was loud but we prefer that to quiet. The family next to us were so nice and accommodating to our kids even giving them water guns Security seemed to drive by often, staff were friendly They had a DJ spinning every day during the holiday weekend Bringing your own tubes works but the cheap ones we brought popped so we ended up renting tubes anyway which were reasonable EBikes can be rented there also Gas station is just a short drive away to get supplies and ice cream Cons: No wifi U pay entrance per car- so if u usually take two cars camping u will need to try to fit everything into one car or pay double Its First come first serve sites so have to snag a site early, we had to set up camp in the parking area our first night but was lucky the next day to get a prime site from someone leaving next to the river Porta potties can get gross Showers were far and seemed dirty Very little privacy- ppl will walk in and out of your site to access the river but we were ok with it Communication is lacking-it's hard to get hold of anyone beforehand to get information Overall the campsite was a nice surprise because we expected the worst bc of the uncertainty and lack of reviews and communication but we had a great time. read more

Our family really enjoyed this place so I am giving it 4 stars and the 1 star is for a reason. We campped there from July 7th and left July 10th. We got the RV Site #8, and the rest of the family did the tent camping. RV site #8 is a really good spot and has good access to the creek, so it is very convenient for us to take our chairs and hang out with the little ones. Good Rv space even with the 1 tent per Rv Site. It's also Kid Friendly. They have a playground next to the restroom. The restroom has 4 shower rooms (only cold water) but only 2 stalls, but it's free. Depending on the days, there may be some lines Tube Rental is $15 per day, but we brought a bunch of tubes, so that saved us money. There's also bike rental. The camp store does not have much, but you can go by the gas station right before the campground if you need more supplies. There is no phone reception on the campground which I didn't mind but the payphone is also available at the gas station. I like that they seem to keep the area clean, constantly picking up the trash cans on each site, and they're always patrolling the area. Zip lining is also available, but I believe it is around $200 (yikes). There is a little water park towards the end of the tent site for free, and they allow you 45 minutes to enjoy it. If you go outside the campground, there is another water park, but there is a fee of $15 per kid and $20 per adult. Campers seems to be getting along well, no fights, no crazy activities.. Now, the 1 star review is for the registration issue and the tent site. It's nice that you can reserve your site for RV, but the tent site reservation is unorganized, and it was so hard to get a hold of them. They are short staffed, so no one can answer the phone or their email if you have any questions prior to going there. We did mention it to them when we arrived. You can reserve your tent site, but it's a first come, first served basis, which is a bummer because you're paying hundreds of dollars for tent area that you may not like at all. The tent site can become overwhelming, and they get packed quickly. Luckily, our family found an area in the RV side to camp towards the back. read more

This review is for the bike park portion of the campgound. I came here for a day of riding had a blast. In a full day of riding, from opening to closing, I managed to get 7 laps completed - I only took a short break when the shuttle driver had lunch. Checking in was straight forward - I was a little confused figuring out where to go but it goes like this: Enter the campground and let the gate attendant tell you where to go - park in the dirt about 50 yards ahead on the left side of the road. Then go into the yellow building to see the bike park folks. In there you'll get your wristband to permit using the shuttle. They've got rental bikes and some bike supplies for purchase and I think they can offer bike repair too. After getting the wristband you'll be directed to drive your vehicle along the river and eventually cross the river and head up a hill and finally park in a wide open, dirt lot area. From here you'll lock up and ride your bike back down to the shuttle pick-up area under the trees by the river. They will give you a map - just follow along and ask any questions. Once you've figured out the area it won't be as confusing. There was one guy working the bike shop that I saw; he was really friendly and genuinely knew his stuff. The shuttle ride to the top of the mountain was always on time - minimal waiting. There is free water available from a hose where the shuttle picks up riders. The shuttle driver was super cool, he always waited for late folks to get loaded and not miss the ride. The ride up in the back of the shuttle truck was very rough - get closer to the cab to minimize being bounced around. The trails were all really good. Be advised that you will have to climb at least part of a trail when you ride here - it's not strictly all downhill so I wouldn't recommend bringing a heavy DH bike unless you're ready to push up the hill. There are trails for most level of riders - not really for novice riders as even the first Green trail has a couple very steep sections that may force beginners to walk the bike: mountain biking experience is strongly recommended. Also, strongly recommend full mountain biking gear (pads, full face helmet, gloves, etc) and plenty to drink - bring a re-fillable water bottle. Be advised that there are rattlesnakes in the area so be aware of your surroundings as always in nature. A deer lives near the shuttle road - keep your eyes peeled to find him. read more

Our family decided to try this campground for the first time this weekend although we saw many reviews that kinda gave us the benefit of the doubt we went ahead and booked. Check in was a 10/10 had no issue workers were professional and nice. Finding a spot was a little harder but after driving for about 10min we found a spot in a nice area with lots of shade. They were cleaning the porter potties as we arrived and cleaned them the following morning as well. Had no issue with using the restroom in the facility long lines for showers in the afternoon wait time was about 1 hr. Took our smaller kids to the splash pad make sure to make reservations sometimes they don't have times available with just showing up as there is a limit with the amount of people being inside.River was running and enjoyed our weekend. If you don't mind overly crowded spaces and a music you'll be fine. Security will take care of ppl playing music past quiet hrs had no issue during our trip / 4 stars only due to it being overcrowded read more

Staff gave my two teenage sons a horrible experience when camping over the weekend. Another group of campers took over there campsite without asking; taking their parking spots and making a make-shift fire while they were away from the site for tubing. When they approached security, security guards were dismissive and unhelpful, blaming my kids and telling them there was nothing that could be done. They had to end the camping trip a night short. Water was flowing. Bathrooms kept getting cleaned . People were nice . Went all the way to area 7 and it wasn't too packed on memorial weekend . Everyone complains about loud music but that wasn't the case . read more

I had a great time camping but I have NEVER seen this place so crowded. I went this summer and they had every camping location open and the only spots available were up the mountain, not on the water. Definitely will be finding another location for next year due to the mass amounts of people. But it is a wonderful campground, just not when crowded. No showers available but they have water hookups if you bring a garden hose. Also a good idea to buy some cheap inner tubes and water shoes (lots of rocks) to go down the river in. read more
