I've come back after many years to leave this review. For context, I was briefly a student here…read moreback in 2009. You'll understand in a moment why I waited so long to write this. I took SAT tutoring here, back when the SAT had three sections and was scored out of 2400. I ended up with a 2040 -- which at the time was the ~94th percentile. I scored a 730 on the Writing section, which was the ~99th percentile for men back then. So why the bad review? I ended up dropping out and self-studying halfway through because I was treated in an extremely condescending and arrogant way by Vincent Perry. At first, I had a wonderful tutor who handled my English and Writing sections -- she was kind, patient, and professional. When she left, I was told I was "lucky" to be upgraded to a "master tutor," Vincent, at no extra charge. For context, they were charging $50 an hour at the time but paying tutors only $15 an hour. I know this because several UCSD students I knew worked there and confirmed it. Vincent started an argument with me during our very first essay review after I used the phrase "due to." He claimed it was grammatically incorrect because it supposedly referred to being "due" like a deadline rather than "as a result of." When I politely disagreed, he told me I was being argumentative. I can assure you, I was polite and articulate -- he simply didn't like being challenged. So I dropped out and finished my prep on my own. About a year later, when I was in college, I applied for a position there. Vincent sent me an unprofessional rant accusing me of being a terrible student with poor work ethic -- completely out of nowhere, and long after I'd left. Without his help, I still achieved an excellent SAT score and couldn't justify asking my parents to keep paying for those lessons. I went on to graduate from UCSB, a Tier 1 research university, taught math and computer science for six years, and later worked at Microsoft and several tech startups as a senior sales executive. I can't attribute even a fraction of that success to this place. From what I remember, the lessons mostly consisted of buying a review book, being assigned problems, and then going over those problems in class. You can buy the same books yourself for under $100 and save the trouble of being mistreated. Even though this happened many years ago, I doubt much has changed. Remember that students don't forget experiences like this -- treat them with respect and listen to them. Your students are your customers.

WOW! What a difference a summer at Mathnasium can make! My rising fourth grader attended 25…read moresessions and, in that time, she went from being a kid who wasn't sure she liked math very much to being a kid who considers math to be one of her favorite subjects. This school year, we've seen a huge difference in her confidence level as she can now can zip through problems with ease. It's made doing homework after school so much easier. Some days she doesn't have math homework at all because she can finish it before the end of the day (which never happened before Mathnasium). All of this is thanks to the fantastic Mathnasium team. They were incredibly helpful and supportive and customized a plan that was specific to the areas she needed to work on. They have a fun prize system that was very motivating as well. You will be truly amazed by the speedy progress your child makes here. I highly recommend it.

The instructors there are super friendly and they always make me feel comfortable, no matter how tricky the math problems are. They're always ready to help me out and explain things in a way that makes sense to me. It's cool how they don't just give me the answers, but help me understand the concepts behind the problems. I'm definitely getting better at math because of them. Plus, the environment is really welcoming, which makes learning a lot more fun!

We continue to be very happy here and have recommended it to everyone we know with young kids who are looking for quality child-centered care. Most of the classrooms are at or near capacity, mostly because of word of mouth. The program has grown a bit over the last six months and the center has continued to attract great staff to ensure their low ratios stay intact. They also just promoted one of their teachers to serve as Assistant Director, which will help ensure that there is an admin person onsite at all times. Our son continues to be very happy here. He brings home great arts and craft projects several times a week. I love that they go on field trips. And their emergent type curriculum always keeps things fun an interesting for him. They are offering a summer camp program for school-age children, so we are planning to enroll our older children in that for a few weeks to make things super easy for logistics and drop-off'/pickup.

The only downside to this place is the price. It is a little pricey compared to the neighborhood preschool. With this struggling economy, it would be really hard to afford their tuition. I wish they could be a little more competitive in their tuition. Gigi H. San Diego

She came highly recommended by a family member, and although we were on a waitlist for a while, it was absolutely worth it. Over the course of about 9 months, Therese worked with my son and made an incredible difference. She was patient, knowledgeable, and truly understood how to support him in a way that built both his skills and his confidence. By the end of our time with her, he had not only improved tremendously but was reading at his grade level. I can't thank Therese enough for the impact she's had on my son's learning journey. Highly recommend Learning Convergence to any family needing reading support!

** FROM STRUGGLE TO HONOR ROLL THANKS TO THERESE **…read more We turned to Therese FitzRandolph after our son finished sixth grade. At the time, it was clear he was struggling with reading comprehension and test-taking. Therese met with us in person and completed a detailed assessment. For the first time, we had a clear picture of what he needed and how he learned. They met twice a week for 50-minute sessions throughout the next school year. Therese used storytelling, repetition, and verbal cues within a structured approach that gave him tools to follow a narrative, retain detail, and speak with clarity. Their final project was the recitation of a five-paragraph story. She read it aloud once. He took notes, reconstructed it in writing, and repeated the full story back to her word for word. This was not a monologue he had practiced for weeks. It was a cold read, a memory exercise, and a comprehension challenge all at once. He accomplished it through steady work and patient, consistent guidance. As the year unfolded, his confidence grew. His reading improved, and his understanding deepened across subjects. His test scores now place him above grade level. Our son earns honor roll grades, thinks through material carefully, asks questions, and speaks with insight. While many students focus on test prep and recall, he learned to engage in real analysis and deeper comprehension of the material. Therese helped our son step into his own mind. Her approach met him where he was and made space for his strengths to emerge. He enters high school with a stronger foundation, a clearer voice, and the belief that he can succeed. We are deeply grateful.
