Update: Our son has continued to attend a full time school program at The Therapeutic Learning Center for over two years. We are very very grateful for the attention and care in education that our young man has received with TLC. The teaching staff have a tailored plan to our son's academic needs daily and weekly in addition to keeping him on par with his grade level. Gratefully he has grown to love school again thanks to the teaching staff and he has even grown to have more patience with writing. Following a hemorrhagic stroke I experienced hearing issues. The latest and best hearing aids didn't help. Assessment of my hearing showed almost all high frequency sounds and constant sounds in speech coming through by left ear we're not being processed by my brain due to nerve damage. I had Auditory Processing Disorder. Without the brain processing sounds from both ears I experienced serious cognitive fatigue from my brain being overwhelmed by too much sound. I started to withdraw from social activities and situations where I would be exposed to processing a variety of speech and sounds. The hearing problem also affected me emotionally causing some depression and anxiety. Soon after starting therapy with the Therapeutic Learning Center I started having less cognitive fatigue problems. Assessment after a few weeks of therapy Showed both ears were now processing sounds /speech better. I rarely have Cognitive fatigue issues from my brain being overly stimulated. Listening to the music prescribed for me gives me more energy. Maria at the Center has a lot of knowledge in the area of Auditory Processing Disorder. Therapy by Maria at Therapeutic Learning was extremely effective in restoring by ability to process speech and sound and back to doing the things prior to my stroke. I can't say enough positive things about the Therapeutic Learning Center. My son started working with the TLC about 2 years ago. At age 8 he couldn't read or write due to a bad learning disability. They helped him gain confidence and greatly improve all of his academic skills. The staff was truly amazing. Struggling to find words that would capture our experience with TLC. TLC at best, is an over priced tutoring center. The so called "clinicians" are not required to have any education in special needs, no college degrees needed or even teaching certifications. They aren't even CPR certified!! Despite claiming to be a therapeutic center for kids with learning challenges, the bar for who is in charge of your child is disgustingly low. My husband and I found out months in (and tens of thousands of dollars later) that the "clinician" giving our daughter therapy, had NO certifications, no college degree, no CPR training, absolutely nothing. I cannot think of any "therapy" which requires the clinician to have no training. Abominable, but not surprised, the lady who runs the place is a delusional scam artist. She hires high schoolers to give our kids therapy and then charges us as if our kids are getting therapy from an actual California licensed clinician. As if thats not enough, almost every week my daughter came home telling horror stories of what was allowed to happen at TLC. Save your time, save your money, save your kids, and invest in actual therapy with a real clinician. In all honesty it will probably be cheaper. read more

My son has a learning disability and it has been hard finding the right fit for his education. Three years ago, I pulled him out of the public school system. I found the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) and finally, I found the perfect fit. TLC's curriculum is unique and effective. He started off by receiving the QRI treatment along with a reading program at minimum. After only two months, I was seeing seeing improvement in his engagement and focus in an academic setting. His therapist was very knowledgeable and caring. Not only did she craft his academic plan to meet the needs of his disability, she excelled at understanding how he learned and worked on a level that made a major impact in his ability to be successful with reading and decoding big words by breaking them up. He was excited to go to TLC over the three years of middle school. His teacher taught him how to act in an educational setting so that he will be successful in high school. On our last day at TLC, she celebrated his successes with a progress report of where he was and where he is now. We were blown away with what she accomplished in three years. It would never have happened in the public school that my son previously attended. It was wonderful to have someone on our side fighting to improve my son's future. My son is showing more confidence, independence and an interest in reading. I would recommend TLC to anyone looking to help improve their child's academics. read more

TLC was an absolute lifesaver for our family. They did exactly what they advertise with grace and pure love for their students. They took our ASD son who was struggling academically and socially and gave him a well-supported and trusting environment to learn. He thrived there, and after working for several months at TLC he is now able to re-enter a mainstream school. I am horrified reading the recent negative reviews and can personally attest as a recent parent that there wasn't a single occasion where I questioned the professionalism of the staff or safety of my child (not to mention my ASD child would promptly report any unusual activity with precision). I scheduled my 14yr old son for an appointment/ interview. Maria the director made copies of EIP and I called her a couple of weeks after left message, phone call not returned. Waited a month to give time and emailed No response. I assumed that they didn't want to service us because we were average income because she highlighted her services were very expensive the least she could do is tell us or present payment options but nothing ,very unprofessional , felt discriminated. Brought my child, who struggles with attention and focus here for an intake evaluation. We heard about this place through a friend and I thought maybe they could help us. We walked into absolute chaos, no structure, no adults in sight and kids running around screaming. At a certain point some children just left to go to a local gas station? Did not see any supervisors with the kids, they just walked out. Finally, through the help of one of the kids, we found the director who had forgotten about our scheduled evaluation? She was just as chaotic as the kids!!! She could not complete a conversation without jumping into some other random conversation. Her actions and words seemed off... She stumbled around and seemed off balance. At a certain point she was crawling on the floor with my daughter who is far too old to find crawling on the ground fun. I didn't want to judge the woman, but then she got close. That's when I realized why she seemed so off. She reeked of alcohol. No doubt in my mind she was under the influence. At this moment I grabbed my daughters hand and walked right out. This place is a train wreck with a drunk locomotive driver of a director. Not safe for kids. read more

TLC is nothing short of a miracle. I will admit I was initially hesitant. It is not cheap, and the promises of academic progress seem too good to be true. However, I am not being dramatic when I say it was worth every penny and it changed my son's academic life forever. My son had struggled all through elementary school with reading comprehension and math, earning "Basic-2," grades. Our school said they were unable to help him and they felt he just had a low IQ. They were so wrong! Maria tested him and told us he had an intense auditory processing disorder. She said that with their help, he would be able to do grade level work within 6-9 months. (Every student is separately tested and has individualized goals.) Our program was intense: Three days a week, 1.5 hours at a time. It was an incredible commitment of time and money. And during the first 5 months, we saw zero progress. I wanted to quit. I had issued with their administrative processes and even complained about one of our therapists. But they listened to me. They made changes to their internal processes based on my input, and they eventually switched our therapist. They even told me it is normal to go months with no progress for some kids. They told me to wait and there would be an "a-ha" moment when the lightbulb would turn on. So we gave it more time. I'm so grateful we did. At month 6, everything changed. His confidence skyrocketed. He started to understand concepts he never understood before. The lightbulb clicked on and burned bright! Approximately 10 months after our first meeting with Maria, we graduated. My son is now able to do his homework by himself and he is getting high Bs in all his classes in middle school. He loves school and feels great about himself. TLC nothing short of a miracle. TLC was a lifesaver. My daughter was struggling with her Geometry class. She had to pass the exam or repeat the entire year again. We signed up for nine sessions of tutoring at TLC before the exam, but due to poor scheduling, my daughter ended up having only four. The instructor was amazing! Was mislead to believe our child had auditory processing disorder and paid close to four thousand dollars for treatment that provided minimal results. Pleasant friendly staff, promises of financial aide and prompt results turns out to be just smoke and mirrors to exploit vulnerable parents that are desperate to help their struggling child. When friends began questioning the benefits of this program, we sought out second opinions. Assessment by an audiologist later confirmed their evaluation and treatment plan were incorrect, as there was zero evidence of an auditory processing disorder. Speech and language therapist and occupational therapist also confirmed no processing issues. This program is just a glorified tutoring center with fun games and headphones with the bait being sold to parents as a treatment program for a disorder that they hypothesize from a list of questions they ask you. After further research anyway, there is no evidence of specialized treatment influencing a cure, as advertised. Empty promises with money and time down the drain. Feeling duped! Love this place. My intelligent, hardworking daughter was getting a D in math. She just couldn't get the concepts and was feeling defeated. Maria identified a processing issue and started her on AMPs. The program requires an hour, 5 days a week. Only a few weeks latter she is now getting A's in math.! We reached out to Maria Bagby and Therapeutic Learning Center shortly after our son started to fall behind in school in 3rd grade. He had auditory processing issues and had a history of challenges in reading, writing and following multi-step directions. Maria Bagby is a genius, for sure. There was no other place to turn when our grandson (a very bright guy) was inverting and transposing numbers in math and failing to understand alphabet letters and their sounds. He was way behind in kindergarten and not ready for 1st grade. The looming fear surfaced of his going through 1st grade feeling like a total failure, setting an all time low self esteem and being bullied by other kids. The idea of facing grueling hours of tutoring seemed like more of the slow learning process, already frustrated to tears, and without much hope of success. We found out about Maria and her amazing team of clinicians and therapists who specialize in this very things - and with amazing success! They address things like balancing the left and right brain hemispheres of learning. Techniques taught there get fast results. We ended up at TLC after contacting at least 15 different therapists/psychologists to do an ADD/ADHD evaluation on my 9 year old son and not finding one. From the time he was in first grade (he's in fourth now), his teachers have suspected that he has learning disabilities, based on his inability to focus and complete assignments. We went through the IEP process and they concluded that he didn't qualify. His teacher still thought he may have ADHD/ADD (something the IEP process does not screen for). I tried and tried, but at the height of COVID, all therapists told me they weren't available, however one suggested contacting Maria at TLC. I was hesitant at first, since I hadn't heard of educational therapy before and more importantly, wasn't sure it could help my son. After meeting with Maria and going through an evaluation process, I was more convinced that she could help. My son, who has anxiety issues in addition to learning struggles, took to Maria right away. On one of the first days of therapy, he was so nervous that he refused to enter the building. Maria came out and got down on the ground across from him, started talking to him about bean bags, and before I knew it, he was following her right in! I had such a great feeling after that. My son did 12 days of "summer intensives" with Maria and her team (Mr. Michael and Ms. Jada mostly) and the recent feedback that I have gotten from his teachers is that this is not the same kid. He is much more confident, mature, and focused now! He still struggles a little, but the educational therapy he received from TLC has drastically improved his school experience. While educational therapy is not cheap, I have to say it's been 100% worth it for us. We will likely be back for more follow-up because it has worked so well, and we want to keep that momentum going. Therapeutic learning center, TLC, has changed our lives. That is a pretty powerful statement but it is true. Our son has been struggling for years in school. We have tired everything from holding him back a year, traditional tutoring, everything and getting the same results. Poor reading comprehension, distracted easily, handwriting that no one could read and a child who hated school. We had been told by every school teacher and administrator that our son had ADHD, without any formal testing, and that we were harming our child's future if we didn't medicate him. We felt defeated and knew something needed to change quickly. My gut told me to not medicate him but to try and find a resource to guide us in helping our son. I had seen in an ad in our local magazine that featured TLC. I decided to give them a call and was connected to Maria, the founder of TLC. TLC proactively identified our daughters learning needs and challenges, presented a plan of action, assisted us with navigating through the public school system, and have been very supportive working with our daughter over the last 5 months. She has regained her confidence and has turned her fear of learning and school into enjoyment for reading and writing- simply amazing!
