I've been going to this partiular law library approximately 9 years ,every since l first started my self help law suit, l had plenty of fear because my advarieies were always attacking me mentally consistency , ( these taskforces were never suppose to harass and use retaliation against me, but they did? After my research of these gatekeeper DRLC and county board of Supervisors and A community of friends inc. all connected as a MH taskforce the same thing l didn't know about them all l easily found out? that's who they are, mental health taskforce,they would come in the library by three's and sat close to me and ask me questions, then ask if l needed help, l would say yes then they would laugh saying l wouldn't help you in this life and leave? I was extremely clueless , l didn't no the cause of actions and other important quotes that were needed to help me file a lawsuit? but staff helped me understand how the system worked , they couldn't tell me most things but they lead me the answers l needed , and for those reason l am greatful for their services and kindness... read more

I have been using this law library for about ten years. Before the pandemic everything seemed okay. The staff was helpful and professional. After the pandemic the women have become lazy and disrespectful! Those are the new women. They were not working there before the pandemic. I asked one of the new librarians where to find certain information. She got nosey and wanted to know what my case was about. I just looked at her. I politely asked her if it mattered. She then pulled some books that was not what I was looking for! She then walked away! She acts like she is racist. One of the librarian men sits behind the desk pretending to be helping someone on the phone. If he was helping someone he would be talking. He is lazy, and he does not want to help people! It is absurd that this library remains fully closed when LA County is now in the yellow zone when it should at least allow some people in if they're wearing a mask. Legal research cannot always be done online and this library has some key resources such as LEXIS that are unaffordable to any lawyer not working for a large firm. This is an absolutely shameful disregard of the public's interests. read more

*Updated* I had a much better experience this time. The staff was very helpful and he came to show me how to navigate the system. I feel welcomed here. I'm not in the profession of law so coming here was a horrible experience. The librarian gave little to no instruction as to how to navigate the computer to find the cases you were searching for. I called ahead of time and asked if there were people to help and they said yes. They were mistaken. Even when you get your library card they act like you are supposed to know what to do when you get here. The worst experience at a library ever. LA Law Library charged me for 3 books that I returned inside of the drop box located on Broadway. I paid 110 dollars to check out books then am told I never returned not even one of the three books I dropped off after my hearing @ CCB. Very fishy for you ask me. I gave a star because the librarians help, the knowledge gained and the environment while at the library was worth more more than the 400 lost. If you have an attorney I suggest for you to go and learn about what your dealing with in your case. Remember this, it's better to fight for your rights when you have them, cause it's very hard to get them back when they are gone. read more

I unexpectedly found out I had a deadline and only a few days to file a notice to sue - I wasn't even expecting I'd have to sue for this issue. Anyway, Ryan helped me greatly at the reference desk this week! And, I'm so grateful that he was the person that helped me. He noticed that the official forms I'd been given at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse across the street were THE WRONG ONES. He pointed me out to the legal book that would help me read on my own about medical malpractice AND showed me the library resource wall where there were pamphlets for me to find a lawyer. This saved me! I used smartlaw, LACBA, and this is how I was able to find a lawyer to help me. This library has amazing resources, Ryan also let me know that this weekend, there is a probono lawyers event at the library. Thank you so much, Ryan, for your helpful, courteous and professional manner, I wish you the best! And, I hope all the reference librarians are as helpful at pointing out resources to the public, as you were! A plus, this library is clean, neat, protected, and beautiful. I felt safe being there. A very peaceful sanctuary in the bustling downtown of Los Angeles! It's open to the public for legal research both in the brick-and-mortar texts and computer database. I typically come here to work on memos and briefs for my firm, because it's a breathe of fresh air from the office. This library is one of if not the best resource for legal issues I found. They have several self-help resources and all of the employees I spoke with were well-informed. I spoke to different lawyers here and each of them helped to answer my questions. It is crucial to be informed in laws and your rights since a lot of people will tell you that something within your rights is "against the law" in ignorance so it is worthwhile to inform yourself in a place like this library. Knowledge is power and I am grateful for a place like this library that makes legal resources easily accessible. You are able to do 2 free sessions a year and they also have plenty of resources outside of that as well. I took part in zoom sessions, in-person sessions, phone calls and received answers sooner than lots of the other resources I was using before finding them. I would like to thank Roberta Ponce, Stephanie Osorio, and Nicholas for their knowledge and time. Also, compared to other places they were the most responsive. Unreal How Unhelpful the staff at this library can be! I go to many libraries and have never experienced such blatant lack of customer service. Called the reference desk to inquire on a specific subject having to fo with the law library specifically, to not at all be helped by a rude reference representative, and then by unprofessional management, that clearly isn't setting the tone! read more

This is the first time I have visited the law Library. However, when doing your own legal work this is the best place to began research. They have numerous classes throughout the city to help you understand a legal process. They also have some pretty good hours too. So take one of their satellite courses before you need it. Awesome place to be studying in Downtown LA! I had to come here to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse for business purposes and then brought my bag of study materials and am IN LOVE with this library!!!! It is creme de la creme and without the snootiness of other law libraries, which I will not mention here. Let's just say that I walked in and asked security if I needed any card and they said nope. Thank God and whoever built this for making it very people friendly and it helps to know that there is a plethora of resources here, legal, that provide a nourishing environment to thrive and learn. The Los Angeles County Law Library's on their 125th Anniversary. The security guard let me walk around. It's not as big inside as I initially thought. However, the books... big, old and filled with powerful information. That is, if you know what to look for..... Otherwise, it's just useless. I mean interesting, INTERESTING. Anyways, membership to this particular has it's benefits, and there are glass windows around the whole Member's Only section.... So everybody can get googly-eyed at you as you get your study on, in those comfy, deep red leather chairs. I wanna go inside! Lemme in! Classes, Workshops and Events range from Free to $50. Also, they have partnership locations: Compton, Pasadena, Long Beach, Pomona, Norwalk, Van Nuys, Torrance. I was actually very impressed with this library. For being a location downtown that is accessible to the general public, they do a terrific job keeping this place clean and professional. This is a place that I would happily go to in order to get a bit of work done. Staff was very friendly, and the restrooms were kept very clean. As a law library, they have a great collection of law books in excellent condition. There is a small parking lot nearby, which is $10. If you try calling, good luck. There were times my classmates and I called and rarely anyone ever picked up the phone. Slow to respond to emails as well. When they advertised for their workshops, the times also were incorrectly posted on the website for registration as compared to their flyers. Lack of attention to detail. When you do go visit, the staff there are very nice and there is free wifi. Workshops. They offer workshops for $20 for students currently enrolled in a paralegal program but I have to say that they are totally USELESS! I don't know how they qualify to teach the workshops but the librarian we had was not very attentive when people raised their hands for a question and could not project her voice. Not saying that you need to be screaming but at least a bit louder than normal. One person asked her to project and her response was "this is the loudest my voice gets so if you need to, you can move up to one of the seats." I guess that makes sense but truthfully it was a WASTE of my time and my classmates. All she was doing was reading off of the slides but also not all of the powerpoints on the screen were in our handout. The ones missing were examples of text which we do need to see to understand. Since the workshop was advertised toward current paralegal students, then WHY would you present information about what a paralegal does or how to research. Those are the things that we already do in our programs. They also advertised a "hands-on approach" but I just expected more especially to have us out in LA this early on a Saturday morning. My classmates attended a workshop the week prior to this one and they also said that it was a waste of time and money. NOT only was the male librarian NOT prepared, even if he's taught it for 3 years, but he also did not know that there was a parking lot nearby. It is quite odd when people who even work there do not know what is going on at their workplace. read more

This library is great and is my most favorite place in LA. I believe that it is the largest law library in the country.  They have a great collection of books in excellent condition. I especially find the John Adams quote "[A] government of laws, and not of men" that is etched on the right side wall when you first enter very inspiring. I enjoy the displays they do and change every so often in the large display case also located at the front immediately when you enter. I loved seeing Thomas Girardi as a kid and the court room sketches from famous California trials. I have never had an issue with calling like other reviewers. Every time I've called there was always someone available to assist me and they got me what I needed right away. They also have a wonderful document service where they will retrieve almost any document/information that you need from/about any court jurisdiction--including international and send it to you. There is a fee for the service. There is an International Law section but I have never had an occasion to use it. They have wonderful classes and workshops that are open to the public. The only complaint I have if any, would be that since they have started partnering with local libraries to provide these classes and workshops, the ones they hold now seem to be less frequent, and are not as good as before. I still love this place, though.  There is a small garage attached on the side of the building which is either $8.00 or $10.00. There is also street parking available if you arrive early mornings after rush hour parking restrictions lift. read more

Some classes are better than the others but overall, the classes are generally informative. I almost didn't want to review this place so it's kept a secret. But the angel on my shoulder said sharing is caring. I was visiting home from FL where I go to med school and needed a place to study. This place was perfectly quiet, clean, and not crowded. I would come back here to study. There is a also a nice park right behind it overlooking the city hall building so it gives you a nice place to grab and eat lunch. read more

I am currently a Paralegal Studies student, and my professor told me about classes that are held here to help with the curriculum and to earn extra credit. It's a really nice building, and very spacious and lots of tables to sit at and has rooms set aside for classes. Parking is easy and accessible in the back of the building and the rate is $10.00, which is not too bad. All in all, it's a great tool to use in my new profession and I'll be back again! read more

Love the library itself but the reference desk woman name LINDA was extremely rude and unprofessional. I asked her about information and she practically raised her voice the whole time she helped me making sure everyone in the building knew what I was there for. I asked her to lower her voice and still still continued. If I wasn't an empowered woman I would have felt embarrassed but I left feeling discriminated against. She was very intentional with her racism. I will be filing a complaint. I am very disappointed in the customer service. read more

Even though this library has an excellent collection of books, I was never a fan of this library because it closed at 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Despite the lousy hours, the library provides free computer access to lexis.com for a one hour session, maximum two sessions per day. If it is busy, you have to place your name on a waiting list. However, once you are assigned a computer, you can perform your searches and email your lexis hits to yourself, and save a lot of money on printing and copying costs. One of my favorite places. While I'm a lawyer, I don't really come here to do legal research, so much as to get stuff done on weekends in a quiet, efficient work environment (and this place is open to legal professionals as well as the general public)! WiFi is great, and there are plugs in many areas. Only issue is you have some folks who can be a little disruptive (talking to themselves etc), but just sit towards the middle area when you walk in, and you'll rarely be disturbed. read more
