    French inspired napkins and candles
    Christina S.

Went upstairs to the home good departments-which is rather small-but did have a lot of cute gifts, and modern houswares from tea towels to shower curtains, to French napkins, candles, and table setting accessories among other things. Loved the cute bunny pillows-bought one for my kitty...he likes snuggling with it!

New department store for me as we don't have it in Toronto! Large selection of clothing for men, women and kids. Great services, Got a golf hat for $10!

All entrances have stairs... people with disabilities or strollers not welcomed?

The Long Version: Full Disclosure: my rating is heavily influenced by nostalgia. I love The Bay (called La Baie in the province of Quebec). It's a Canadian department store. To be accurate, it was called The Bay from 1965-2013 (La Baie in Quebec 1972-2013). In 2013 they rebranded to Hudson's Bay/Baie d'Hudson, which I suppose brings it back to the original name of it's first store in 1881 (in Winnipeg, not this one in Montreal) which had the same name as its parent company: The Hudson's Bay Company. However, in my heart it will always be The Bay. When they rebranded, they dropped the stylized B and the yellow script for a more block letter logo in black. The stylized B in yellow script is the logo of The Bay from my childhood, so I'm so happy that this La Baie location in downtown Montreal has retained it. This location has a Coach store inside it and was where I bought my first Coach bag so many moons ago (my first bag that cost more than $30, lol). This location has also been the site of FAO Schwartz pop-up stores, where Canadians can get items from the legendary American toy store. Growing up there were so many department stores, but the likes of Eaton's and Simpsons have long closed. So I'm happy that The Bay is still around. Their regular prices are quite high, but they often have sales where their items are marked down. Those of a certain vintage will remember "The Bay Scratch and Save Days" where they gave out scratch cards (like the scratch lottery cards, lol) and you could get 10%-50% off your purchase. If you are sensitive to scents, you may want to skip their fragrances section on the main floor. Walking through is very much like those typical scenes in movies of department stores where beauty counter workers spray perfume on customers, although they don't spray it directly on you like in the movies, they spray strips of paper and give them customers. But that first floor is olfactory overload! Lol. The flagship Bay store in Toronto is my favourite, but this location in Montreal comes in second :) Review #14 (2025)

La Baie is probably the largest department store in downtown Montreal and at night is nicely lit up. Hudson's Bay (French: La Baie d'Hudson) is a Canadian luxury goods department store chain. It is the flagship brand of the Hudson's Bay Company, the oldest and longest-surviving company in North America as well as one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the World. Founded on 2 May 1670, the Hudson's Bay Company opened its first department store in 1881 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The chain operated under the company name before being rebranded to The Bay in 1965. As of August 2021, Hudson's Bay operates 86 locations in seven Canadian provinces. The full-line department stores focus on high-end fashion apparel, accessories, and home goods; flagship stores carry a bigger range and selection of goods than typical locations. The flagship stores are often multi-story, historic buildings and are located in Canada's largest cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa). So this one in Montreal is multi-story and you can spend hours browsing through all the different departments. Well stocked and well lit, it's a nice place to shop.

I especially love this location because Place Alexis Nihon also has a Winners, so one stop for 2 of my favourite stores. Truth be told, the Winners and Marshalls here are pretty indistinguishable from each other, lol. Brand names at a discount, what's not to love? I especially like their cosmetics/skincare. I often find brands sold at Sephora for a fraction of the cost. Just beware that the mascaras are sometimes dried up, but I've had good luck with all other make up items. I haven't had much luck with shoes here (ladies size 5 foot here, so not too surprising), and clothes are hit or miss. However, I still love the hunt ;) Review #19 (2025)

The Longer Version: This location is inside Place Montreal Trust. It's on the most lower level of the mall. Same level as the Food Court. It has the largest selection of luxury brands of all the downtown-ish Winners (more than the Alexis Nihon, Complexe Desjardins and Peel Winners). I spotted an Yves Saint Laurent bag for $2700. They had Gucci shoes, sunglasses and hats. Some Chloe, Ferragamo, and Valentino bags too. And other brands. Their luxury brands are locked up in glass displays so you have to get a staff member to unlock it for you. The contemporary brands like Coach, Michael Kors, Ted Baker, and Kate Spade are out and about for you to handle on your own. This location is large and has a jewelry section and children's clothing and shoes as well (these sections are the first to be cut in the smaller "urban concept" stores, and even though this location is urban it's definitely a full-sized store). It has the usual women's and men's clothing and shoes and housewares. It's also always busy and crowded. So my feelings about it are mixed. I love the size and large selection but I hate the crowds. The Long Version: I love Place Alexis Nihon because it has both a Winners AND a Marshalls, my favourite stores to shop at, lol. Well, my newest obsession is house plants, so on my on my most recent trip to Place Alexis Nihon, I had to check out this Canadian Tire to see their plant section. I was a bit surprised to see that they have a little temperature and humidity controlled greenhouse. I saw temperature and humidity gauges around and it felt warmer and more humid in there than regular indoor environments. All the other Canadian Tire stores I've been to, just have their plants in an area in their store, but not climate controlled to be different than the rest of the store. Anyway, it was fun poking around. Since I was on vacation and traveling by train, I was limited in what I could buy, so I didn't make any plant purchases, but they had really cute mini Swiss Cheese plants. I love plants with fenestrated leaves but they are mostly huge, but they had small ones here. As you all know, I'm an equal opportunity shopper, lol, I'll look at plants from big box stores as well as small plant boutiques. I would say that despite being a big box store, the plants here seem well cared for. The rest of the is similar to other Canadian Tire locations. Review #69 (2025)
