My sister and I were looking at handbags, jewelry, fragrances, and apparel when we happened across this cute cookie shop, La Biscuitery. Assorted biscuits are housed in colorful tins, perfect for gift-giving or with tea. There was also a collection of freshly-baked macarons and chunky cookies. We knew the latter would make a great snack while watching movies. Of course, I had to get the gingerbread man, marbled brownie cookie, and a few Grace cookies (Red Velvet and Black Forest). All of them were enjoyable and a fun treat, anytime of the day. read more

A must visit on your next stop over in Montreal! All the beautiful shops favour exclusive high end boutiques and stores with the latest styles. I highly recommend the fragrance boutiques for any hard to find luxury names. Staff was adorable and introduced me to some pretty amazing new scents! It's just an awesome place to get away for a few hours! So many new styles and beautiful designs all within 3 floors. Big thanks for all their help and kindness; It's always appreciate. read more

On our *girl day* (the boys went to the Science Museum) GF and I went in here....I didn't pack mascara and needed a Chanel counter. Think Sak's or Nieman Marcus here in the US. I was not prepared for the bagpipe player....very colorful. We grabbed a quick lunch in their cafe...we both had Quiche....very yummy! I had my best Almond Croissant of the trip here...sadly GF is allergic to almonds. I got the goods, and we wandered....but nothing called our names. I love looking around Ogilvy. It's a nice store. There are nice things to look at. What I don't like at Ogilvy is being bombarbed by salesladies. They are so persistent here! It scares me. I like shopping in complete silence, in my own world, and they get in the way of that. On the other hand, sometimes I need help and they snob me because of what I'm wearing. Won't even talk to me. Sigh. Can't win. Haven't tried their cafe yet but I plan on going. read more

This is the nicest, most traditional department store in all of Montreal, hands down. As a kid, 50 years ago, I remember the grandeur of this store, and it has retained a lot of that "classy grand dame" character, from the ornate elevator doors, the revolving front doors, and the Scottish kilted bagpipe-playing gent who walks the perimeter of each floor at around noon each day, playing the bagpipes with its distinctive, Celtic sound. That's what this store is: distinctive. The downstairs cafe is excellent for lunch, with a great selection of sandwiches and salads and cafes and pastries. There's a home accessory/stationery department also on the lower level which is fantastic. The baby clothes area has such gorgeous outfits, it almost makes me want to have another kid (almost being the key word...!!!!). There's a Godiva chocolate area and Ugg boots section, and other distinctive areas. The cosmetics and perfumes take up the Main Street level, and clothing is on all the floors above. I have friends who swear by the hair salon in this store, too. Growing up, Ogilvy's always had the best Christmas displays in their front windows; we used to drive downtown specifically to check it out each December. I hear their holiday displays are still beautiful. I love this department store, as it embodies all the old-time elegance of Montreal of yore. The sales staff have always been friendly to me and my kids, as we ask where certain departments are, and I find the prices of their merchandise to be the same as elsewhere in the city. read more

You don't have to be rich to come here. You can easily enjoy a quiet and tasty soup and sandwich lunch downstairs in the cafe. The stationery shop is also a great place to pick up unique cards, notebooks and paper. The MAC cosmetics boutique is also a great place to have a stylist help you pick out the best colors for your complexion and style. You *DO*, on the other hand, have to be rich if you want to shop their exclusive designer boutiques like Louis Vuitton, Longchamps Paris, Michael Kors or Aquascutum and absolutely need to have whatever is hottest off the runway. I personally don't and I'm quite content looking on ebay or a handful of other sites for the same items at a fraction of the price. Another plus: Ogilvy's is the only place in Montreal that sells Annick Goutal perfumes so if you want to smell like a piece of heaven, come here to get it. read more

This store is just a complete mess. The sales associates, managers, and even the assistant general manager cannot resolve a simple problem. I have never been to this store in person, but I've purchase items over the phone and connect with sales associates over IG. Asma from handbags is pretty pushy and not the nicest. I once inquired about a handbag on IG and she responded quickly, but kept sending me question marks asking me if I wanted it ($1000+ bag). I didn't end up buying it. A few days later I was interested in a handbag she posted so I inquired. She asked me to send her payment info. I said no, but I could call her for it (around 8:45pm). She said sure, but then she said they had to close. I assumed she just didn't want to take my order. The next morning I called the store once it opened to process the purchase (another sales associate helped me) That afternoon I was interested in another bag Asma posted and called her to process it. She told me about how last night she wasn't actually in store and her colleagues told her they were closing... She also told me how upset she was when the sale went to another sales associate. I received both bags a few days later but the one processed by Asma was missing a dustbag and a receipt. A few weeks later I was interested in another bag Asma posted but unfortunately I was at work at that moment. I asked if she could hold it for me and she said yes. I got off work 2 hrs later and messaged her and she told me it was gone. I asked her why as it was on hold and she told me she wasn't supposed to hold sale items and I didn't conform. First, I always hold sale items at other locations and I've never experience any problems. Second, if that was the case, why didn't she say so in the beginning? I could step out to give her a call for payment. I should be notified at the very least before putting it back on the floor. If they said something would be on hold I expect it to be on hold regardless of her store's policy because she did say it would be on hold. Not a single word of apology. I contacted customer service regarding this incident and the department manager Lisa contacted me back 2 days later. She kept telling me that Asma did the right thing as they were not supposed to hold. She also said Asma asked for an exception to hold for a few hours... well is 2 hours not considered a few hours? Is it considered right to sell a bag on hold to another customer?! Lisa apologized insincerely and told me she will make the exception to hold a sale item for me next time and even give me first dibs to the next markdown (which was supposed to be last Wednesday). To date, Asma has only showed me 3 items none of which are comparable to the item I initially had on hold. The assitant general manager Julie also contacted me regarding this matter and kept telling me about how Asma went against store policy to hold me the bag. Well first off, I'm unaware of that policy and regardless of her going against store policy, if it was promised to be on hold for me, it should still be continued to be put on hold. She told me she has no way to make up for this situation other than apologize. At other big stores where I have experienced soemthing similar like at Nordstrom and Sporting Life, even without any request, they would make up for their mistake by offering a comparable item at the same price/discount. Apparently Holt Renfrew has no way to do that... even though the error was clearly on their end. On the other hand, Laura from the shoes department asks for the photos of your credit card and ID to complete a purchase over the phone. I have bought many items over the phone from holts and never once was I asked for something like that. She told me it was store policy and she cannot place orders without it. Is it possible that I am the first to review this institution? Surely not... however, I am going to do it with gusto. This megalith of high fashion, beautiful design is a bastion of old Montreal money... and I love it. I can honestly say I have never purchased an item of clothing here, but I always come to smell the fabrics and touch the purses. It is New York and London, it is Sex and the City but with class... and it has the true heart of an artist. Think personal shoppers, eye catching displays, floor after floor of designer collections on fetchingly arranged displays and golden racks. Think purses that twinkle under spotlights, and smells of leather, fresh flowers and diamonds. (If you can't smell the diamonds, you need to step outside). The most fun for those of us who actually work for our money, is to go to Ogilvy to have a snack or lunch in the bistro downstairs. It is exceptionally good food, and it allows you the luxury of lingering and watching the ladies who shop in this place. They hail from Westmount and Mount Royal, they are fashion forward for the tennis club set and are exquisite to observe. Their carefully coiffed hair, the complete outfit worn for being seen and seeing. It is sociologically fascinating. So my cousin and I had our wonderful coffee and hand made biscotti and were replenished and when we were one with the vibe, we moved on happily. read more

Walking around Montreal I came by this department store so I decided to check it out. It's more geared to the luxury set with high end designers such as Burberry, Dior etc. Reminiscent of Holt Renfrew but looks about 10yrs past it's prime. It was fairly empty when I decided to wander around a few floors. First floor is your typical make-up/perfumes floor and then the other floors are clothing/shoes. It seems to be split up in capsules - like a Burberry store within the main store for example. Saw a lot of bored looking employees here. Nothing in this stores (decor, clothing etc) lends itself to a hip young vibe. More like a respectable place to shop with grandma. Nothing inherently wrong with that but not where I would spend time leisurely looking around. Ok but not great, might as well just go to Holt's. read more

Ah Ogilvies... a Montreal institution. It's set to merge with Holt Renfrew in the future and I hope it manages to retain its charm. There are a lot of traditions, from the noon piper to the toy window that both my daughters love, to my older daughter performing with her school choir in the elegant Tudor hall on the fifth floor. These days I find their in store stock to be a bit limited, but somehow I rarely leave empty handed... I prefer their basement selection which features more fashion forward items than the upper floor which tend to be more classic. Good shoe department and a nice little cafe in the basement. I've always gotten good service here. read more

This place feels like outdated luxury with a lot of small boutiques that simply do not have enough inventory (for example Burberry is a joke in terms of selection). If you want to buy a nice hat for your grand-mother its probably the place to go... The best thing about it is probably the florist which always has some of the most beautiful arrangements if your willing to splurge... I think they are about to do a much needed make over in the mean team, I think Holt Renfrew is much better read more

I am actually reviewing their cafe, it was actually pretty good! The prices weren't as expensive as you'd think they would be and the brie and chicken sandwich I had on olive ciabatta was really freaking good. I was also in their salon and was greeted by many employees, asking if I needed a drink. Woah, what? That was really unexpected but awesome. I guess you definitely get what you pay for here. As far as the department store goes, I didn't really get to see much except that it looks like Barney's or Saks. read more

I love this place. Originally, I was looking for LV. When I took a 20-minute-short-tour in LV here, I found out that this place offered more than I was imaged. So I decided to spend more time on this place. And yeah, 3 hour well spent I would say. Location: located in a busy shopping center, I found by accident, This place really was not stood up and little off the mainstream. A beautiful store, yes. Customer care, absolutely not! My beautiful coat was sucked into their malfunctioning escalator. Even the sales staff could not get it to stop. After many promises to repair or replace my coat; I purchased another from them to wear, I was sent on my way. Many months later the coat was returned unfixed without even a note of apology! After many calls, I was told if I had been injured in the event, they would have certainly provided compensation! Beware of their escalator....it lacks the mandated brushes along the sides to keep personal items from being caught. read more

We were shopping in Montreal on Friday afternoon [7-26-13] with guests from Italy. We bought several items totalling over $1,000. Most staff was adequate, however, a certain male staff member in men's clothing was quite rude. Perhaps we didn't spend enough to receive better than his less than condescending rude behaviour. Being originally from Montreal, I was surprised to see how such inferior help could be hired by management. They've come down a very long way from where they were. My feelings when I first moved to Montreal was that Ogilvy was going to be my best hangout. It's the biggest department store (the only as well) and the one that carries sort of niche brands. However, there is something about Ogilvy that repels me drastically. Starting at any makeup counter on ground floor with all the stuck up boared sales associates who can hardly fake a smile to the shoe department that has a very disappointing collection!! I particularly was puzzled when I went to try a coat there and all of garments on the racks were chained!!! I needed to try few (when you are paying over a thousand dollar for a coat before tax I think you have the right to try on) I spent five minutes looking for someone to unchain (release) the coat And I finally found help She 'released' one Max Mara coat and unwillingly waited (she needed to chain back the coat and disappear) Anyway the coat was large and long and I did not like it She tried to convince me it is the right size and shape for me!! Then hanged the coat and vanished I looked around for more coats, liked some but could not find the sales person again Honestly what is the point in chaining coats!!! Can't security tag work fine?! Funnily enough Holt Renfrew (which is owned by the same company as Ogilvy) have a smaller collection of fashion but nicer staff which really counts if you want to sell to publics read more

Im surpirsed there are only 2 reviews for this place. It has a great location, right in the heart of downtown. Its a pretty big department store if you can still call it that. Ogilvy does have some phenomenal things but the prices tend to be very very high. Either way if you can afford it its an amazing place to shop. read more

Customer service was not existent. I thought this store would offer a good selection of quality rain hats and I actually saw one I liked and wanted to try on. As it was up on a mannequin not accessible at eye level, I looked for assistance. On a Saturday afternoon were two salesladies standing behind the counter - not assisting other customers, rather they were chatting to themselves. I stood waiting to catch eye contact, one looked at me and then looked away and continued the conversation with the other. I tried to catch their attention, with a polite excuse me... neither acknowledge me. I was now thoroughly disgusted and fed up - and walked out of the store. I will never go into that store again. To store management - fire these two people - they are not helping your business! read more

Received a $200 gift certificate and decided to go to Ogilvy's hair salon. I went in with long blond curly hair and met "Charles" who told me my hair was too brassy and too long. I ended up with blah brown, short hair with ridiculous bangs. All the things I told him I didn't want. The horrible mess came to a total cost of $160.00. Worst experience ever! Ogilvy's is a jewel in Montreal's crown. I went on a shopping trip with some friends of mine and this place was a must visit. We walked into the building and it was just the pinnacle of department store shopping. The store is bright, beautiful and very well laid out. There is a lovely restaurant/bistro in the basement with excellent fare and on the top floor is a little art gallery with beautiful pieces for you to admire or purchase. Of course that's all just extra. We went to Ogilvy's to browse the men's clothing and even though we were three teenagers, patrons who normally would receive derisive looks in a store this expensive, we were given such excellent care from the staff. We were helped by an older gentleman as we were trying on a couple of Burberry shirts. He was polite, friendly, and gave us just as much respect as any of the older patrons in the store. On top of it all, when I somehow managed to cut my finger on the tag of one of the shirts, he went and got me a tissue and a bandaid. Talk about prepared for anything! When I had decided on a particularly nice blue check Burberry shirt he asked if I wanted to wear it out. I replied yes and he took the shirt and had one of the tailors press it for me. The lady working the counter was also kind and courteous and the whole experience couldn't have been any more pleasant. The staff bend over backwards for you and the store itself is not only beautiful, but in excellent shape for being so old, not to mention it's wonderfully clean. I highly recommend everyone shop at Ogilvy's for those high end pieces to round out your wardrobe. Ogilvy's is probably one of the only high end department stores that gives everyone equally fantastic treatment. Far better service than I have ever seen at it's main competitor: Holt Renfrew. Plus the building and the history give it this wonderfully ritzy roaring twenties atmosphere. read more

this review is for the enfant section only since that's the only department we visited. the enfant section is located in the basement next to home goods and a mini bistro area. there are nice high end outfits for infants and children. we ended up purchasing our baby to be's homecoming outfit here. they had a huge burberry section. we opted not to explore this section. we ended up with a baby blue velour petit bateau outfit. i love petit bateau! the sales lady was super helpful and very nice - not snooty at all. although the outfit was expensive (close to $100) it was worth it -- it's the homecoming outfit! i'm not one to splurge on baby clothes either but for the outfit home from the hospital...it's ok. i would definitely visit again. definitely a higher end department store perhaps similar to a neimans or bergdorfs? we greatly enjoyed our experience. maybe next time, this mama can get some things as well for herself... read more
